In this video I discuss my thoughts on the novel Great Expectations by Charles Dickens, making some reference to both the 2011 and 2023 TV adaptations. I finish up by discussing what is next on my reading list to end the year. If you have any comments on Great Expectations or have any recommendations, I'll be interested to read them below.

I’ve read Charles Dickens’s Great Expectations, Bleak House, A Christmas Carol, A Tale of Two Cities and David Copperfield. My favorite is David Copperfield. I started reading classic literature at the start of 2022 and so far have read 28 books. A couple of my favorite I have read are Wuthering Heights, Crime & Punishments, Dracula, Frankenstein, War & Peace, 1984 and To Kill a Mockingbird to name a few. I am also studying with OU and started this September. I am studying A111 & A112 together so a lot but really enjoying it. Your video helped me to decide if I wanted to do a course with them. 😀

Thanks for the comment and I’m glad you took up a course with the OU, hope you’re enjoying it… I’ve deferred A112 as I’ve changed my mind and am looking at doing language and literature 🤣 but A112 does look like a great module too. I’ve heard mixed reviews about David Copperfield but will definitely give it a read next year. I’ve also got Wurthering Heights, Frankenstein and Dracula on the book shelf ready to read at some point, although they will be waiting until next year as I’ve just started some short stories by Sheridan Le Fanu. Good luck with the rest of the modules, hope you enjoy them 😊

Charles Dickens is my favorite English author. Currently reading "Great Expectations" for the second time. The humor, richness in style and descriptions of characters are the things that attracts me. How Charles Dickens ridicules vanity, arroganse, lack of integrity and self-pity with elegance is to me very amusing and funny. His language and style are maybe not very modern, but I still regard him as one of the great masters.
