Wow, I absolutely do not remember the specific details about The Secret Diaries of Miss Miranda Cheever but your rant has me rethinking the hazy nostalgia I had for it after reading it years ago as a teen. I think your rant is warranted considering all the elements you pointed out!!

I agree with you about Turner. I do not like the tropes where the hero is so incredibly “in love” with the heroine that he has to deny it by having sex with her and then treating her badly. I think you are correct in describing the relationship as abusive. I will be back to watch your reviews of books 2 and 3 after I’ve read them ⭐️
Love your comments on this series - Ten Things was definitely my favourite of the trio, but they all took some extra effort (just as an FYI - Bevel rhymes with Neville, Stoke like stroke without the r) - and agree with you 100% about Secret Diaries. I could see her crushing on Turner at 10 b/c childish crushes happens, but still... he was a bully and not particularly likeable. As adults there was way too much unnecessary drama and they were too whiny. I lost patience with them and would stop reading for long periods. Your rant was 100% on target!!!

@@remarkablylisa I think that's it exactly - I've thought about that trilogy of books for a while now and why I don't enjoy them as much as her others, and it's that lack of backbone and "come to Jesus" speech that I was hoping for but that never really happened.
The Secrets diaries of Miranda made me mad, that hero I just hated him, after they had sex for the first time he was such a jerk towards Miranda, I hated him. I love reading about an ugly duckling and about unrequited love but this book nope, did It wrong for me. More historical romances recommendations please💖
Turner was awful! I hated him from the moment he kissed her, knowing it was her first kiss, and made it an awful experience. Then, everything after that was him sinking lower and lower. THE WORST!
