Recorded on December 3rd, 4th, and 18th at various locations on the Reading Blue Mountain and Northern railroad between Reading and Tamaqua, Pennsylvania.
Reading Blue Mountain & Northern No. 425 4-6-2 G-1 Light Pacific locomotive
Built in 1928 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works originally for the Gulf, Mobile & Northern Railroad and was later retired in 1950. In 1983, 425 was brought to the RBM&N for excursion trains until its last run in 1996. In 2008, 425 was brought back for steam excursions in the 21st century, and now after a decade and a half of service, RBM&N 425 is due for her Federal Railroad Administration 1,472 day inspection. It is unknown how long until her return to the high iron.
In this video you'll see the last days of 425's 21st century excursions before being put down for inspection. Hauling the Santa Claus Express specials at the tail end of 2022, 425 goes out with a bang as she high balls through the Pennsylvania countryside, showing everyone that this old girl can still move!
The first two days, December 3rd and 4th, the Santa Trains were run out of Tamaqua, Pennsylvania and the last two days, December 17th & 18th, the Santa Trains were run out of the Reading Outer Station. However, due to work scheduling I was only able to make it, thankfully, for the 18th to see the final runs of 425.
