This was the book that got me into reading. Would love to hear recs for people who like this type of read. Guilty pleasure is reality TV or dramas so I felt like I was getting the same book experience. I watched the show first and didn’t wanna wait for the episodes so I ended up reading it and I dove into the book world since lol.

Ooh since the audiobooks can sometimes help get through a book that’s not easy to get into, I’d suggest the audiobook of The Flatshare, that’s how I read that book and I really enjoyed the two narrators and the accents and everything. It made it really enjoyable! :)

I recently bought Daisy Jones but, like you, I'm nervous, also not so into historical eras, but this makes me want to read it sooner. Hope I love it as much as you!

About the interview style--I haven't read Daisy Jones, but this is how I felt about The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. It's a very heartwarming, wholesome book, and I loved the movie before I started the book. But it's written in letter style, and I didn't know that going into it. I started it and was like, oh, okay, not sure if I'm gonna like reading this 🤨. But it definitely made the characters feel more real and I think I read it in like 3 days. Very sweet, and I was pleasantly surprised by it. Sidenote, the story's pretty different from the movie, although not in fundamentals, and I liked the book's character development a lot better than the movies. But yeah, unconventional writing styles can definitely be used VERY effectively, not only to hold attention because of their novelty, but also to real-ize the characters :)

TSHOEH was my first Taylor Jenkins Reid book, and I found it pretty average (I could understand why people loved it but it just didn't click with me). And I had DJATS already on my shelf thinking I was going to love TSHOEH but when I didn't I was SOOO wary about reading DJATS and put it off for so long. Then, finally, I read it. I finished it in like two days and started it all over again and then listened to the audiobook. I've read and listened to it four times this year. I had such low expectations and agree with everything you said about how you expected to feel and had felt about it before reading. And then I agree with everything you experienced after. My search history while I was reading DJATS made me look like a gullible idiot. I've brought more TJR books since then because I want to experience those feelings again.
