Really enjoyed seeing the 2 perspectives, and nice to know the rapid where we once broke a boat us a harder one in low water :)

Really valuable content to share on high low variations of same river. We both know the Ardeche has extremes of both and totally changes and requires both concentration and different mindset even when paddling the same stretches several times a week. Marvellous content as Aways Ray. And to point out I’ve seen more pinned boats on lowest levels on rivers than any others !

Yep will have some more of that on the Bloodvein video I am editing at present. Plus low level paddling makes for much slower trips. Thanks Tony.

Thanks Sue. I am going to wait on a really high level and film it again. Then maybe remake this one.

Great video. Just finished paddling the lower Kananaskis river today in Alberta. Almost swam when we became complacent on a bend with a large rock LOL but even though the canoe filled with water we stayed upright and paddled to a quiet section to bail....fun! Also my first time wearing a drysuit and I'm not sure. It's too long for me and I found at the end when I went for a swim (after taking out the boats) I couldn't move my legs very easily in it....better when I was able to "pull up" the legs but still felt very imbolized....it was a strange feeling. Maybe I should leave some air in?

Hi Cindy, just back from Canada and paddling Saskatchewan's Porcupine River. Re Drysuit. You really don't want a lot of air in the drysuit legs. If I am running a course where I need to show swimming I often wade in first so I can expel the air from the legs. I am sure it is more to do with legs being too long rather than lack of air in them and of course you have to get used to the very different feel. Without drysuits my winter paddling here in the UK, would have become deeply unpleasant many years ago.

Quite interesting. I recently did part of the Saugeen River here in Ontario, Canada, once in lower water in June 2022 and again in May 2023 in higher/faster water. In the faster water I covered 42 km in 4 hours versus 42 km in six hours the year before however I found the run less challenging due to the rocks mainly being buried underwater (and possibly partly due to skill improvement). I was in an Esquif Pocket Canyon. I suspect some of the footage you showed here is older but if you have a GoPro Hero 9 or 10 and install the Max Mod you can have the horizon always level no matter how it's mounted. It also gives you a wider view although best video quality you can get is 1440. I think the Hero 11 has more of this built-in now although I haven't bothered upgrading cameras this time around.

I am using a 7 and 8 but don't really want to spend the money and update for a while. Mind the horizon being level would be a good addition thanks. I am currently editing video from the last Bloodvein trip I did and it was extremely low water. I am sprinkling in photos from previous trips which were in much higher water. Thanks for commenting.

@@RayGoodwinCanoe I went through a similar thinking path about upgrading to the 11 which I haven't done. I originally started out with two Hero 8s (which I sometimes still use in whitewater), then upgraded to two Hero 9s and then two Hero 10s due to the horizon leveling and max mod options. Interesting I've done a bunch of playing around with the Insta360 OneX2 as well which is a 360 degree camera. I typically use that mounted on my whitewater helmet so I can avoid gopro mounts on the Zephyr XL. The 360 gives surprisingly good utility however it's image quality isn't as good as the Hero 10 IMHO. Anyway, as always, I enjoyed your video. Thank-you for sharing it with us!

@@NobleEndeavours123 You now have me looking seriously at the GoPro Hero11. That Horizon Lock feature looks amazing. It would be a real winner when mounted on a helmet as tend to tilt my head a lot. You may have cost me money!
