I read TWWLN. I loved it. It was long but I couldn't put it down. I read it in a month. I'm reading the Barchester series. I do not like long books of over 600 pages but his books seem to go quickly.
It was definitely a page turner, loved his use of satire and found the characters truly awful but in a loving way 🤣 I’ve got the Barsetshire chronicles on my bookshelf waiting to be read, will hopefully start with The Warden soon 😊
I just finished The Way We Live Now. I couldn't help but constantly equate Augustus Melmotte to a recent former US President, in regard to business practices, the questionable appearance of wealth, political ambitions, and on and on. Either Trollope could see into the future or sadly, the world hasn't improved at all in some ways. I couldn't put it down either but I agree the last chapters seemed a bit of a letdown. I enjoyed hearing your thoughts on the book.
Interesting thoughts about Melmotte embodying a former president, I definitely see this, especially after watching the BBC series Witt David Suchet playing Melmotte. Unfortunately I believe it’s the latter and not much has changed in the world with the greedy always out to get as much as they can no matter who they swindle. Thanks for your thoughts on the book, I’m not surprised you found it hard to put down once it got going, but likewise, just wish the ending was a little more thought through
