I read Dracula for the first time several months ago, and it was surprisingly funny. I thought it was hilarious that Dracula was quite the domestic goddess.

So fun that you're participating! I love Elizabeth Gaskell so much and I'm so excited you're reading Cranford. It doesn't really have an overarching plot but it's such a delightfully cozy, humorous, and heartwarming book. As for a book where the plot is afoot I think Wilkie Collins could be a cool author to check out and fun especially for the month of October since they're very Gothic and mysterious. Happy Reading!

Such lovely books. Victorian novels intimidate the shit out of me. The only ones that I have read and liked have been Persuasion and Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. Everything else has been very difficult to read and comprehend. Except for Alice in Wonderland. I read that and it felt like I was reading an account of someone who had just dropped acid. It wasn't anything like I was expecting. :/

Tomorrow is Another Read Pretty sure Jane Austen was a few centuries before the Victorians :)

I really want to join in on this, but October is going to be crazy! I think I might just read one Victorian novel to join in in some way. I'd 100% recommend North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell, and then watching the BBC series - so so good, and one of my all time favourite classics! xx

I like the idea of this book challenge ! I will sure be part of this #Victober :) I'm currently reading Lovecraft but after that, I'll pick Dracula. Oscar Wilde is one of my fave and I'll maybe read again some short stories. :)

As said in a previous comment, Lady Audley's Secret would work for the 'plot afoot' challenge. The Moonstone would be a great one for that too. There are some really good works on your list - sounds like the makings of a fabulous reading month!

I'm really excited for #Victober too :). I won't have time to read a lot of books so I've only chosen one victorian book : Wives and daughters by Elizabeth Gaskell. Because I liked Cranford, Nord and South is one of my favourite book so I really need to read another book by that author. You have a great selection of books ! I really want to read Gaskell's biography of Charlotte Brontë. The tenant of wildfell hall is such a good book I'm sure you'll love it :D ! Bonne chance

Love Victorian Literature so much. Love Camilla and Dracula. I studied Victorian Literature at university and I am hoping one day I can study victorian fiction further. I love Elizabeth gaskell's North and South and really want to read Cranford! I really want to read The tenants of Wildfell Hall too! There is so many great victorian Literature out there, I might join in casually if i get some time, but if I don't I will be cheering everyone else on :)

I love Cranford - but the BBC miniseries and the book are very different. Both are wonderful but there were a lot of changes. The miniseries caught the spirit of it, which I think is the most important part. :)

Cranford is the BEST! We had to read it for uni this year, and it's just completely delightful!

You could count Lady Audley's secret for the plot afoot as Well - I liked that book.

I love the Brontë sisters too. I hope to someday be able to go to the Museum. I was going to recommend a book I just finished reading I found just randomly at Barnes & Nobles. The Brontës Treasury- The life, times and works of Charlotte, Emily and Anne❤ by Jane O'Neill. Wonderful book.

I loved the Cranford TV series - unfortunately not the book. It is pretty different from the series and it's a bit bland. I found Gaskell to be quite bland anyway. She did know Charlotte Bronte before she died, but her portrayal of her in the book was actually widely criticised. She even called Patrick Bronte a dull, hard-man when in fact he appears to have been very encouraging of her daughters throughout their lives! You should try reading Charlotte's The Professor, Shirley and Vilette as well if you want to read the rest of the brontes. The Professer was her first novel - but it was rejected alongside Wuthering Heights and Agnes Grey and she wrote Jane Eyre in a few days instead.

TENANT OF WILDFELL HALL is a major snoozefest. I've been trying to get through this book since April 3rd and tomorrow is August 3rd. Ugh good luck with it.
