max porter visited my english lit class in college one day, shortly after he had released grief is the thing with feathers, and he was amazing! the way he spoke about the writing process and what inspired him motivated me to delve deeper into writing fiction. i love that he's getting the appreciation he deserves
i shamefully am yet to read toni morrison too and this rly inspired me to add it to my tbr pile. tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow was my absolute favourite read of last year. i feel you in hyped books and that's one that's genuinely rly stuck around in my head
I'm so late to the party - I'm reading A Little Life. So far, I am really enjoying it. Excruciating and exquisitely detailed. I live in the UK and it's summer here, and there's something strange about reading something bleak and uncomfortable on a beautiful summer's day. Like you, I am very much a mood reader but A Little Life has me so hooked, I am not considering putting it down and resuming on a moody winter's night.
Sula is my favourite Toni Morrison so far - The Bluest Eye has been on my to read for a while sounds like another good one. I just finished Paradais by Fernanda Melchor, dark but fast and very hard to put down.
oh Paradais was such a whirlwind! Yes, very dark indeed but I had the same experience, couldn't put it down. My next Morrison is defintiely Sula, I'm reading her in chronological order and I hear it's many peoples favourite so I'm very keen to find it and get into it 💗
I’m currently on the 6th week of The Artists Way after many many false starts. Once you push through those first couple of weeks it becomes quite enjoyable (imo). Sometimes it feels directed towards middle age women rather than young women like us, but there are still many good points within. Goodluck!
This is the first vid I've come across of yours and I instantly subscribed! Your vid style is really calming and your cat is so cute ☺️ I'm currently reading Detransition Baby by Torrey Peters 🤍
Loved Small little things like these❤ this is the first book you mentioned which I also read! Currently reading Sofia si veste sempre di nero by Paolo Cognetti to improve my italian. I love your videos, they always make my day, your thought, your cats and lovely apartment😊
I love those reading vlogs ! I am currently reading "My sister the serial killer" by Oyinkan Braithwaite and my next read will be "My brilliant friend" by Elena Ferrante because you convinced me to read one of her books haha
I recommend you Sula by Toni Morrison, and also Paradise, which is very different and a lot more complex (like you have to take notes to understand ahah)
i adored this video!!! right now im currently reading “those who leave and those who stay” by elena ferrante and having the greatest time, savoring each and every word on the page because the way she writes is phenomenal
Finally reading Anne of Green Gables (❤️) as well as Strong Money Australia by Dave Gow. I always have a fiction and a non-fiction! Love hearing about how different people approach reading 🪻
I love this! According to my 15 'currently reading' books I too am a mood reader ❤I'm currently enjoying Stay true by Hua Hsu from another of your vlogs and previously finished The housekeeper and the professor, a gorgeous read I'd recommend checking out. Im now keen to read Small things like these. Thank you for another great video and look forward to your thoughts on Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow when you're ready 😉
Love this! I’m currently in the middle of The Price of Salt by Patricia Highsmith (wow, I love her writing) and 8 Rules of Love by Jay Shetty :) Highly recommend both!
Sorry not sorry for the double comment lol but tomorrowx3 was one of my absolute favorites of last year. It also made me cry and I couldn’t read anything else for a few days I was so impacted by the story and so deeply in love with the characters. I recently finished La hija única (Still Born) by Guadalupe Nettel, and Nina I think you would absolutely love it. The prose is phenomenal, the topic incredibly important, and I just couldn’t put it down. Muy recomendado y si lo puedes encontrar en español aun mejor ❤ ya and finally I also decided not to read I want to die but I want to eat teokbokki after finding that out 😂
i seem to have accidentally fallen into a reading period of books related to or about the housing crisis (non fiction and fiction). I just finished all the houses i've ever lived in by kieran yates which was sooo beautiful - part memoir, part analysis of generation rent and home ownernship. now i'm going to try to pick up three rooms by jo hamya
Lately I really enjoy reading Japanese female authors (Sayaka Murata) and about to start Breasts and Eggs by Mieko Kawakami. Thank you for this book video, I added some to my list, and thank you for adding bits of Sydney, I'm very curious to see it!
The Lost Journals of Sacajawea by Debra Magpie Earling. It was like learning a new language but it was English. Absolutely beautiful, poetic, mystical language that transports you to the young and indigenous way of thinking and perceiving the world.
I'm reading Homage to Catalonia by George Orwell which has been really enjoyable so far but recently finished Severance by Ling Ma and I fuckkkking loved it!!! Also finished Young Mungo recently which I think is one of my fav books I've ever read.
I recently read La Paix des Ruches, by Alice Rivaz - a Swiss writer who grew up where I live now and was so moved by it. In this book (written two years before The Second Sex by de Beauvoir), she speaks about the condition of men and women, love and marriage with so much precision, complexity and hope. I didn't see any English edition, but if you can read French, I would highly recommend !
Currently reading fight night by Mirriam Toews, I loved her other novel "all my puny sorrows". Just finished Klara + The Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro and it left me thinking about it for DAYS! Question for you: What are your thoughts on books you start and just ARE NOT into but feel like you need to finish?
I started watching, and i was like , imma read my book and come back , cuz you put me in the mood .. but im reading James Joyce...and im on the 200 page , and i cant ... I cant , i will dnf it , and will enjoy your face instead ❤
i'm halfway done with "the time traveler's wife" which i found in a free books box in a park in hamburg. but i really want to read some chimamanda ngozi adichie and have been looking up prices online. "americanah" by her her is one of my all time favs, along with "the little prince", "where we come from" - sasa stanisic, "the cat and the city"
Small Things Like These is set in 1985, not the 1800s - just wanted to share as the conversations in it regarding the impact of mother and baby homes and the role/power of the Catholic Church in Ireland is a lot more impactful when you realise how recent it all was.
Thanks for the book inspiration! :) i‘m currently reading „Bloodbook“ by Kim de L‘Horizon, it’s quite intriguing and the style/ topic reminds me a bit of Ocean Vuong
I just finished The Price of Salt and it sucked me in link no novel has in a while. If anyone has recomendations for something similar, I'd love to hear. For now I'm moving onto Joan Didion The White Album, i think the last book of hers i need to read The artists way has been on my bedside for at least 6 months... ahh looks like I have join join book club!
completely feel this as a fellow mood reader!! currently reading 3 books (eeps) but am LOVING all of them which is a blessing because this year has been full of mediocre reads so far: - to be taught, if fortunate by becky changers - without you, there is no us by suki kim - gifts of imperfection by brene brown
