@@kellysnyder1405You're 53 years old Kelly, huh?🙂I'm 55 years old🙂I saw things you didn't see... by at least two years🙂Regards, Michael M. Kamau, Nairobi, Kenya, East Africa, 17th March 2024.
This video was filmed on a Sunday at the original CLUB SENSATIONS. The club was owned by my brother Reginald Willoughby and me (Kelly Willoughby)...CLUB SENSATIONS was located at 45 Branford Pl.,Newark New Jersey.
I'm 51 today. In 1986, I was in 10th grade and this song was on a continuous loop then at every school dance, every skating rink, and at the beach. I love it. Reminds me of those good ole days.
As a 19 year old, I would honestly love to hear "Oh Sheila" at any of those places right now. From the 3 years that I've explored 80's culture, I've seen some good and some bad, but the good outweighed the bad for sure. It literally looked like Heaven on Earth; there was more effort put into making music and everyone could express themselves freely and wildly (although LGBTQ+ acceptance was a work in progress). I love this decade so much, I'm growing my hair out for a kinky-haired mullet! 😎
While you were in 10th grade in '86, I was age 10. My bro was first year post HS, and in Air Force that spanned a total of 8 years and few months. My bonus bro became a teen, but he was not in my life until I was 20, as my parents were still together then.
I would definitely recommend listening to some retrowave. My personal recommendation: The Midnight Timecop1983 FM-84 Miami Nights 1984 At 1980 Electric Youth These are some good artists that can capture the 80s feeling to the heart.
Because people seem to think computers/instruments are the same, young people don't want to pay for music, and music wasn't completely owned by corporations in the early-mid 80s.
Because puffy or p.diddy will be sayin thru the whole song...take that take that..i thought i told u we wont stop and bad boy and that goofy ass laugh he does.
I want to dedicate this to my sister 💙Sheila Reneé McCureay💙 that passed away in '97 at the age of 36.. I come from a Southern Bluegrass and Country family.. My older brothers in the mid 70's were into Heavy Metal & Rock.. and my eldest sister Sheila was into R&B and Old School "Funk." Wasn't a Saturday go by without watching Soul Train in the '70's... watching her learn the newest dance moves on the show.. She was an Awesome Sister and dancer.. and enjoy watching Soul Train to this day.. I can still recite all of Rappers Delight, Fantastic Voyage, Double Dutch Bus etc.. that she taught me when I was young. ~R.I.P.~ Fly High Sista.. I Love and Miss you Dearly!!
Sorry to hear about your sister. The good thing about these songs are that you have such a good memory of a human being. Imagine that! Some people just hear a song that they like or don't like. When you hear one of these songs, you see and hear and have the scent of memories with your sister as a kid. No one can have those same memories and no one but you will remember her that way. Even though I don't know you, nor did I know her, that's an amazing thing that you will always be able to share with her and only her.
@@jonothandoeser, In Ready for the World's first two albums, you can smell purple everywhere! Melvin Riley and Willie Triplette even wear purple on the debut album's cover art, so that's the cherry on the Minneapolis sound sundae!
It’s crazy so crazy that music like this isn’t listened to and deciphered now a days… I was 3 listen to this still and understood and felt love flow through the house of a single woman raising 5 colored children… this was my mothers peer pressure music, pressuring her to be loved by the messiah, the man, and the world… Power in music and power made for the people in 3 minutes, life changing if you allow it to be!!!❤😊😢🤯
Y'all kids today don't understand that for us GenXers who were teens when this came out, when my man said "Oh honey baby just you wait and see" in the British accent that shtt was the internet before the internet for a minute
PRINCE inspired many groups back in 80s, I personally thought Ready For The World was underrated and had a short run in the music industry. They were a very talented group and played instruments too...80s COME BACK
Michael Jackson's legacy even more obvious now after his passing, there were alot of imitations back then of him...Still hate the Jeri Curls fashion style though, it's the worst followed by the mullet
I heard this first time in Rockefeller Center today. I thought it’s a latest hit and finally some good modern music. Turns out it’s the legendary Prince .
I love Ready for The World. Them brothers produced their own music, wrote their own music, had a lot of say on their look, had a lot of say about their music videos, and etc. Just some talented and hardworking brothers from Flint, Michigan.
He says "I dee dah lee dah loo" with a straight ass face too. *2:27 I always thought highly of the older bands who would dress nicely and organize their stage presence through dance etc. It showed the artists' respect for their work, in my opinion
80s performers got away with a lot of silly looking things, if you think about it. Who could pull of Prince's facial expressions these days, and look damn sexy doing it, for instance? 😂
I dedicate this to the memory of their producer Bernard Terry who just died at age 64 from a heart attack. RIP bro. I never met him in all my many years in Flint. Where is RFTW now??
I wish I could heard the conversation between Shelia E and Prince when this song came out. SHIELA: Hey, you wrote a song about me? PRINCE: Nope, that's not me! LOL!!!
Makes you really wonder if there was ever any kind of contact between Prince and this band. The sound, the style, the songs. But neither party ever said anything different.
No I'm sorry I disagree they still sound great and nothing against the new girl cause she's a bad woman but don't sound as good as the original members sorry😂
Man! LOL!...... All the house parties back in the 80's and the activator was flying left and right! LOL! I'll never forget all the sheets and pillows I would destroy with that mess in my head.
I had a crush on a girl named Sheila when this song came out I was in the eighth grade and she was in the seventh. We ended up going to the school dance 💃 together and coincidentally danced together on this song right here. Now that’s a memory I will never forget. #80’s the best time to be alive.
This music is not even part of my time ( Born 1993) but my goodness shoutout to my mom for listening to all of this 80s music when I was little ! At work all I do is jam out to 80s music , music like this gives me chills and I WISH with all my heart that I could’ve experienced the 80s! Seems so fun and like the best era of all time .
Honestly, I wish more music like this was around today. Like music is supposed to make full circles... I want this back. I see some remixes that are decent, but I want an era of this shit. I was a kid when this came out, but I want to be an adult and be out where whole nights is nothing but this.
I used to blast this song in my car on the way to work at 5am so I could wake up for opening at work morning shift when I was in high school ....good times
This joint takes me back to my childhood listening to the radio listening to the great tunes starting in 1985 till maybe the 2000s. Now I mostly listen to my massive CD Music Collection or RU-vid.
