well well well....another 'ready steady go' and i am editing lots of stuff out! dave clark was so fond of putting non-show material in (mainly dave clark five...) plus this has the 'beatles' miming to a couple of tracks(cant do that plus this boy playing in the background..) so they had to be cut-out due to youtube/apple corp infringements so what do we have left? ...its cilla with her new single/the beatles chat etc../keith fordyce/cathy mcgowan/marvin gaye/the stones with off the hook/and patrick showing off his dance moves from a previous show...closing the show are the beatles with ringo dancing with audience members while please mr.postman plays in background i have left this in but it will be muted by youtube!..clips are from march/may & november 1964...dave clark loved editing shows eh?..p.s.the winner of the art contest was jeremy john ratter....

Yep! I was there... stood next to the Stones as they rehearsed without much care and looking embarassed. No fuss ..people loved RSG because it was the young peoples showcase and the music reflected their lives. The musicians and their audience were one... a unique time in history.. D. Reid.

England was its own scene. After centuries of a stifling class system and a decade of deprivation , Young people grabbed the reins of culture and never let go. American youth , for the most part, where comfortable and optimistic. No war touched our soil. The land of plenty We were st least two years behind the Brits who were much hipper

To see Brian Jones again with that impish grin, with the Stones at their mid-60s prime. As for Marvin, he was in another league altogether. RSG was a fabulous snapshot of a long-vanished period in pop music.

You are only a few years younger than my mom, and I discovered this show when I was around 16 in the mid- to late-80s. I admit to being curious as to when you started listening to music on your own, because I am beginning to wonder if I were not a late bloomer - I began listening to music of my own accord when I was 10, in 1982. I can still remember that I turned on my first radio for the first time to hear Casey Kasem saying, "And here are four lads from Sheffield, this is ABC with Poison Arrow!" :) I also remember seeing Duran Duran's numerous videos on Friday Night Videos (before MTV's advent, I believe, though my family didn't get cable until the 90s, when I was in college, so I can't be absolutely sure about that. 😀)

@@stephaniepeterman618 Hi Stephanie, Not sure what you mean by "listening to music on my own?" If you mean when I started buying albums and playing them I guess I was around 10 or 11. But music has always been a part of my life, playing in the background, whether it was my Mom listening to Radio Caroline in the kitchen or watching the UK win the Eurovision song contest for the first time in 1967 with Puppet on a String, by Sandie Shaw. Cheers to you and your Mom! Hope you and family are all doing well!

The weekend started Thursday night live with Top Of The Pops on BBC. Friday night live was ITV's Ready Steady Go. Pure promotional bs really both shows with BBC daily radio programming still in the dark ages so both shows gave us the music we wanted & we got to see the entertainers. All mime, no mikes, no amps just singers and musicians pretending which in itself had to be probably more difficult than actually playing.

Though considered iconic nowadays, I felt I was slightly too young for this programme at the time, but did watch and enjoy several episodes. I was more into TOTP - from around '67 onwards. Pop music dominated some people's lives back then [mine probably], and everything else had to slot in around it. I maintained an avid interest in the genre till around '76, after which I gradually lost touch with what was going on, finally giving up on all of it around '85. My affair with pop was over.

The Baby Boomers. We are the fortunate ones to have lived through the 50s and 60s, not to mention the early 70s, when music was joyful, the sun really shone and simplicity was there. Now we live in a world of technological complexity wondering what the hell is going on around us. I think many people miss those days...

I used to watch this TV series called Ready Steady Go as it came on the BBC and there was another TV series called Juke Box Jury as it was a contest as the guest would vote to sit if the songs were a hit in the 60s or would it be a possible miss as each song was heard on the show as the winner will be singing their song as the winning song at the end of the show as I am dedicating these TV shows to my old school friends who are both sisters as I hope to see them both again very soon to Chris and Hester from Billyxxxxx
