I agree 100%. I lived in Buenos Aires for nearly 10 years.I brought a house in Mar Del Plata. But nothing is perfect. Buenos Aires advantages greatly outweigh the disadvantages. My best experience was the people and the cost of living was an added benefit.

I'm Argentinian, i move to Puerto Rico when I was 11, now I'm 32, and I live in Oregon for the last 4 years. It's getting very boring. I miss after parties and night-life. We are considering to move to North Carolina to be more close to family but... I want to try to visit Argentina once again. I feel culture will never leave your blood even if you moved little from your country.

Fellow Expat in BAIRES! You talk about walkability but didn't mention the amazing mass transit! Taxis are for emergencies, like late at night or you are feeling lazy... the subte and buses are both cheap and realiable. You can explore on the cheap. You mention international food, which is true, but don't expect the spice level of Indian or Mexican food to be on point. Just to be warned, INCREDIBLE CITY for foodie but following local foodie experts is key to avoid disapointment when you want to eat 'real' chinese food... for example.

Thanks for the good info and personal assessment of the positives of BA. It is indeed one of the best places to live/travel now (due to the exchange rate) for foreigners. There were times when BA prices were higher than NYC or London (Argentine middle class would go in masses to Miami and Barcelona just for shopping). (Un)Fortunately, I believe this favorable exchange rate will continue for at least a couple of years so great time to visit BA.

Another excellent video! The only places with decent public transportation in the US are New York and Chicago. I think if Italian food in Buenos Aires. Later this summer, please compare the heat between Buenos Aires and Houston. Being from Wisconsin, I am considering an Argentine German mountain town because of it! 80 is really all I can handle. The RU-vid algorithm will pick this up better if you replace "BA" with 'Buenos Aires, Argentina.'

The average temperature Is around 60f with the four seasons well marked.between 70 and 90 a typical summer day, and 35 and 50 a winter day. The Latitude es similar to North Carolina, but in the southern hemisphere temperatures are More moderated because the Atlantic ocean moderated the extreme temperatures. Almost half percentaje of the population has italian ancestry, followed by spanish, german, sirian, chinese japanese, irish, russian, a great mixture with people from others latinamerican countries and the 3rd o 4rd Jude community only behind Israel an US. When I was in Amsterdam on vacation I stayed in a hostel (as I usually do to save money for travel, food and cultural experiences) and there was an Argentinian lawyer in the room that I talked to. He said that the issue with most goods is that Americans get them cheap because of the economy of scale, we have a cargo shipment from China every week just for Walmart goods. No cargo ships making regular trips from China to anywhere in South America. He would take an annual trip to Los Angeles, Ca to visit relatives, and on that trip he would buy EVERYTHING that fit in suitcases that his family or friends would need for the year; clothes, small appliances, plumbing fixtures, car upgrades, anything/everything, as it was cheaper to pay for the goods and the excess and heavy baggage back to Argentina than to buy those items in Argentina….. Something to consider, take all you’ll need, and then make an annual shopping trip back to the U.S. (EDIT: can save even more money if you time that shopping trip to coincide with BLACK FRIDAY)

@vikolivik
@vikolivik 2 года назад
As an argentinian, let me tell you that that's a very tricky question: in this country we have 2 VERY DIFFERENT change rates (we actually have more, but let me simplify here), the official rate is around 1USD=110 AR$, while in the black market/wester union/blue change 1USD=220AR$. The official rate is the one that you will get if you use your credit card or an international bank transfer, while if you come with cash or someone sends you the money via Western Union you will get twice the amount of money for the same amount of dollars. So, it's quite impossible to tell you how many times cheaper it is, as it will depend a lot on how you bring your money ;)

You said Houston has a little bit of Public Transportation but it's not that great. In 2020 (year of Pandemic) Houston METRO received the American Public Transportation Association’s Outstanding Public Transportation System award, competing against other large agencies. This marks the second time within five years that METRO has earned this award, and the third time in its history. Houston Metro has an annual budget of $1.33 Billion and has a monthly ridership of multi millions, which according to you is "a little bit".

I was brought round to the impression that she was not slighting Houston, and that rather she was saying BA was a city where you wouldn't want to own a car at all. I agree with her summation; BA is an old city, comparable to Manhattan, or perhaps inner city Philadelphia. The roads evolved long before cars. Most people take metro, bus, taxi, or the ever popular semi-private remise. -Best B
@jipagola
@jipagola 3 года назад
I think her point was that in the States anyone can buy a car and it's just easier to drive. BA is more like Manhattan, where it's a lot easier to just take the subway or hop on a bus to go from A to B.

Well yes, people go on vacation during summer. And Brazil has amazing beaches, its no brainer why porteños like to go there on holiday. Buenos aires does not have beaches, nor lakes or any of the typical summer activities. So people in general rather leave for the summer and stay at their summer houses in “la costa” (the Atlantic coast) or some people go and stay at their quintas (countryside houses). The most common vacation spots are Cordoba, Patagonia (in winter people go skiing there, but during summer the lakes are amazing too) and of course the costa. But people also go to mendoza, salta, etc. Uruguay is very expensive so only some people are able to actually afford going to Punta del Este. Brazil is quite insecure so people are kinda discouraged from going there, plus theres lots of dengue mosquitoes and people just prefer to avoid those situations.
