i love seeing people who actually know the lore of JTTW playing game. One of the best reactions i've seen so far! I smiled ear to ear watching this lmao. Looking forward to part 2
@@francisthecreation2707 Yo father can take backshots 9/10 a little hairy but the tightness was blissful. Next time I'll bring the oil with me. (Post script: here my boy a like so you know my appreciation to yo father)
This game is legit GOTY contender this year for sure. I also love the possibility that this game has opened up for AAA quality game based Chinese folklores and literatures and there was a fuck tons out there.
This is easily my favorite play through to watch of this game so far. It doesn’t always matter but I really enjoy when the player is well read into the game they are enjoying. So many streamers belittle important moments in story telling with games cause they don’t understand or care to know the source material. As a viewer it sometimes ruins the experience but to each their own. Thanks for this.
Man, I missed your vids! ♥ But crazy to actually hire a paid actor/model to depict yourself - lip sync was on point tho! 😁 I love the face cam, it conveys the enthusiasm, joy and fun you have while playing even more than just your voice! ♥ It's always great watching people from the same culture play/watch/etc. media, you get so much extra info you normally miss, e.g. you were the only one I've seen so far that instantly knew that this takes place after the actual journey or the peach stuff!
I‘m German. When the first trailer of Black Myth was shown in 2020, it was the first time I heard about Journey to the West. Since then, I dug deeper and deeper into the rabbit hole and have read the entire novel in advance to the game‘s release. Yesterday I finished chapter 1 and am blown away by how faithful and lore accurate this game is to the original story. Chapter 1 of Black Myth is a direct continuation of chapters 16 & 17 from the novel. Unremarkable characters from those chapters like Guanghzi and Guangmou, who had only one minor appearance, are fully fledged characters in this game, and we get to know what they were up to between the events of the novel and the game. Black Myth Wukong is Journey to the West 2. It‘s not only based on the novel, it is a sequel to it.
The crown around Wukong head is like a mind seal made from Budha to restraint/control the owner to do unsavory behavior,it's in Sun Wukong true story i believe as well, with got him kill probably cause he was too arogant.(in the game)
I watch a couple trailer and opening intro reaction and as expected, western all don't understand the hype of the storyline and those side characters. I glad that I see your reaction. Journey to the West 1986 tv series is the childhood of everyone in my country who born before 2010.
From all the reports I've seen, they had 500 million RMB (which is about 71 million USD) budget for this. This may not seem like a lot, but it's such a beloved project that they received a lot of help. They wanted to do 13 chapters but ended up with 6 chapters in the final release. The developers really wanted to wow all of us, so they squeeze the budget to make the best 6 chapters in the short 4 years of development as they can. And they sold 10million copies within a week, if the investors are not too eager to cash in, we may see a grander DLC or even a sequel to this. I'm Mainland Chinese, too. If anything can unite us Chinese all over the world, it's the love for the Monkey King.
I'm from Russia and I was waiting for this game since the first trailer. Sun Wukong is one of my favorite characters since I've learned dragon ball is based on JTTW and read it
@@orveditor bro, im Vietnamese and I have been watching " Journey to the west" when i'm still a little kid until now i'm still do it every summer. Same as other Vietnamese .
As a Chinese person, watching another Chinese person who recognises Chinese mythology and is familiar with the story of Journey to the West is absolutely fantastic.
i always wished that chinese culture and mythology was more popular in the west, especially with how much we're obsessed with japan and korea. this game looks fucking sick definitely gonna get it for myself at some point (when it goes on sale im broke)
As long as it's not made BY WESTERN PEOPLE. Chinese culture and mythology is so beautiful, but we can fuck up ANYTHING here in our entertainment industry.
it was far more popular than both japanese and korean culture back in the 70's-80's, just because of kung fu movies. i use to watch the journey to the west Chinese TV show(didn't really understand any of it) but the reason i did it was because of an old kung fu movie (mad monkey kung fu). in that movie the protagonist supposedly knew wu kongs fighting style as a human.
The only reason China isn't popular is because of geopolitics, but China's finally broken through with soft power and people actually wanting to learn about Chinese mythology 😭😭💪💪 so sick
China hasn't pushed their culture into the west as hard as the Koreans and Japanese have. I mean we got the kung fu movies and chinese food, but that's it. Korea has k-pop, k-dramas, and mukbangs. Japan has anime and manga(nuff said). Oh, and vtubers now too. Until now, I've felt like I've enjoyed chinese culture more from korean, japanese, and americans who've tried to adapt chinese stories/cultural elements rather than from the chinese themselves. Edit: the american part is really just Kung Fu Panda and Mulan.
@ransfordflentjar5694 it literally was >< and I really don't know how Erlang agreed to keep wukong's mind intact for so many years... what a sacrifice!
8:05 He actually could, that axe is from the lore about Erlang’s nephew, Chenxiang, who built (not by himself) the axe with Sun Wukong’s assistance to split the mountain which sealed his mother (Erlang’s sister) away.
Can you explain why he can put his staff in his ear when it’s not the original staff because he can’t really expand or minimize the staff if it’s not the golden one
@@ProGamerLee21 for this i think its the hair ability, hes not shrinking and storing the staff like with jingubang, but turning one of his hairs into his weapon at the time like one of the incense sticks at the shrines
God Er Lang actually won the first duet with Wukong way back before Great Sage made journey to the west. In folklore Dad told me Erlang got 73 transformation while Wukong got 72 transformation (well I don't know how that make Erlang stronger though). The Piggy Bajie and Wujin both got 36 transformation as per my Dad told me while I was a kid.
Its so cool seeing you get excited about things because you instantly recognize them. As someone who loves mythology but hasnt really had much exposure to Chinese mythos before now, this game was super fun to absorb.
Great video. Got my sub. I've been reading so much Chinese mythology with so many books on the side just so I can make a proper review of the game. It has a lot of depth.
So dope seeing someone who knows the original lore play the game such cool insight. One of the best openings in gaming for sure and I loved all the animations after each chapter
don't forget this game has multiple endings, you might just get bad end as most ppl do but the true ending is very satisfying, though it requires to kills secret bosses and path
I actually ended up buying the audiobook version of Journey to the West so that I could appreciate the game better. I won't pretend that I understand everything but I think that it has improved the experience. Also the Chinese Dub is so much better.
Do Not compare BLACK MYTH WUKONG with other games, because BLACK MYTH WUKONG is Unique and absolutely outstanding, breathtaking, gorgeously out of this Universe! ^^°^^ 🤩🤩🤩😍😍😍💯💯💯👍👍👍👏👏👏💪💪💪
Black Myth LETS GO! I've been waiting for your video. I love your excitement level, it's always so much fun watching your videos. Always reminds me of being with my friends back in the day. Hope the game is everything you want it to be brother.
Before this game, the only thing i knew about the journey to the west and wukong was that it was the inspiration for DragonBall and Goku now I know more about wukong thanks to lore videos that showed up in my recommendations
when it is a game about chinese mythology, the best person to explain it is a chinese ofc. Damn good video and my god the boss fights were insane.....i'll probably take 20hrs to come to that wolf...
Black Myth Wukong had a budget of $70 million, became one of the fastest selling games in existence. Concord was $400million, bombed and was delisted in two weeks.
i’ve watched a lot of reviews on this game but listening a Chinese person do a review is the BEST!!!!! so far for your reaction tells me there is a lot we dont know regarding the back story even though other non-Chinese game reviews have revealed this based on Journey to the West, a classic story in China, sir thank you 🙏🏾 this video is priceless
Just beat the game myself and 100%d it, This game deserves GOTY more then any other game out there Im not asian but I grew up with Wukong as a kid and he is the biggest reason I love Bo Staffs, Such a great game.
FINALLY somebody playing it with subs not dubs, the game is so much better in the native language, I can't stand Chinese or Japanese settings in English.
I just beat Stellar blade and Jedi Survivor was a DEI slog but as soon as I started playing this game yesterday I knew I was gonna love this game. Can’t wait until I put like 70 hrs in this game and get really good. I can’t believe this is chinas first AAA it’s got the potential to be one of my favorite games ever.
I love that the story of journey to the west is such a loved story throughout the world, so many versions of the story that were made through video games, movies, shows, podcasts like mythology by parcast they took pieces of the story from the original text and Anthony C. Yu’s 1983 English translation. I wonder if the guy that got his hair pulled was wukong’s teacher that taught him the earthly conclusion
I'm glad RU-vid recommended this dude haha. Also basically my exact reaction to this fight and the rest of game. Easily by goty and by far. I hope we get dlcs, sequels and more
When I fought the Wandering Wight, I haven't figured out how to heal yet. Never played GOW, a Souls-like or anything comparable before. And that Baby Buddha with prejudice is a pain without healing, I tell you 😂
You can’t get mad that you are finally getting a game of your culture You can’t expect other people to speak for you This is a Chinese company that has made a beautiful game for the people of the region sad it took so long and Japan never did it but made similar stories
I just beat the game and i didn't know the Journey to The west story so i came here to see it from the perspective of someone who knows :) and i loved everything about this game
yeah.. do they use consumables if you don’t know what they do. the “evil repellent” makes you less damage. actually really useful. also, the big head guy is way easier if you go the other way first (you missed a cool transformation). the “purple thing” can be retrieved later.
