Click "SHOW MORE" for more info & Part 2 is here: • Real Close UP | Piper ...
Also, let me know if you think I'm missing something on my close up walk-around preflight inspection.
I know this video isn't for everyone. However if you haven't been close to a Piper cub in person or are considering buying one, there is some value here!
Most preflight inspections online don't show you real detail, I like detail.

Love your videos! I’m an “out of biannual 172 pilot” . About to build a scale J3 Cub model. I’ve only once had a lesson in the Cub. Long time ago. I enjoy the detail in your video as it will help me with scale accuracy in my non flying model. Thank you 😊

I’m glad you’re enjoying the videos! (still learning a lot each one) I have about 200-ish hrs in a C-172, it’s what I learn in and owned one for awhile.

Great job, I did not see a fire extinguisher inside the cockpit, also good idea to rock the airframe side to side checking the shocks
@Blaircraft.Engines
@Blaircraft.Engines Год назад
Thanks! A fire extinguisher isn't require in the J3, however a small one in the baggage area wouldn't be a bad idea. Rocking the wings and the airframe is something I do periodically, good suggestion. Thanks for the comment. Sounds like you're a pilot as well? If so, what do you fly?

Joshua Ryan Blair, so glad you mentioned this! It amazes me how many people move props on their own planes and at air shows without checking the mags. Nicely done.

Start a preflight in the cockpit and you can check switches and trim position. What you are calling the back of the propeller is actually called the face. Check the air filter security also and the tailwheel spring bolts.

Thanks for your comment. I have a buddy that owns a champ, the engine just was overhauled and we’ll be flying it soon! Stay tuned... I’ll end up doing a walk around video on it too along with some flying. My big project right now is the Piper Tri-Pacer conversion if you’re interested.

Great video! Working on a tailwheel endorsement in the Cub so this was really helpful. If you could make one on hand propping that would be great too. Looking forward to the Pacer videos next year!

Nice aeroplane and nice film! It wasn’t obvious in the film, but did you check the tension of the upper and lower tail brace wires? I also usually start my (PA-12) walk around (after checking the oil first) from the cockpit by checking battery charge, turning the fuel on, checking control movement and winding the trim all the way from nose up to nose down 😎
@Blaircraft.Engines
@Blaircraft.Engines 3 года назад
Thanks for your feedback! Yes, I did check the tail brace wires. I could have pointed that out instead of speeding up that part... YES! Moving the trim, verifying proper free movement is a good one!

Nice video! We can see a lot of peoples using Cub for aerobatics, can the "standard" Cub perform them ?
@Blaircraft.Engines
@Blaircraft.Engines 2 года назад
I’ve heard the J3 can do a good loop. Honestly I wouldn’t try it. I would say the standard cub with the A-65 engine would be under powered. Where have you seen the aerobatic Cubs?
@elouanlavaux1514
@elouanlavaux1514 2 года назад
@@Blaircraft.Engines On RU-vid, just searching "J3 Cub Aerobatics". Yeah, I think 65 shp seams very low for trying those.... On the flight manual they are talking about G's but only a hard turn, not mentionning loops

What are the tubes coming out of the wing on the underside just ahead of the lower aileron control arm, what are those tubes for?

Looks like a new upper and lower cowl. Where'd you get it? Aluminum or composite?

Might sound crazy, but it’s original! All aluminum. It was just primed during the last covering job.

Cub: Worst sump, ever. Except for any low wing planes. 😀 What’s the rectangle plate next to the aileron pulley? Don’t have that on mine.

Trying to put my eyes on what your referring to. I see the spar attach fitting with the aileron bracket. Would that happen to be it?

@@Blaircraft.Engines At 4:44 in the video, to the left of the aileron pulley there is an rectangular inspection plate (?) with 8 screws. I don't have that on mine. What's it for? Love the videos, btw.

Do you fly the cub from the back seat and how does it fly
@Blaircraft.Engines
@Blaircraft.Engines 3 года назад
Matt Woody Yes. The J3 cub is rear seat solo flying, due to the weight and balance. However, I have flown from the front when a passenger has a hard time with getting in the front seat. (Much less room) The J3 flys great. Simple and not real touchy on the controls, just don’t over correct with the rudder when landing... 👍
