I find it so odd that there'd be school rules to try to restrict what you can/can't do outside in your personal life. No part time jobs? That's really overreaching with their authority. And what kind of trouble would a student get into if they are caught working. The fact that a student would be hired somewhere means it's not a labor law of some kind but just a school policy. So, can they go as far as forcing you to quit? 'Cause if they catch you, do you just write out some kind of apology letter or something? And then just continue to work still? Haha.

I heard that the colorful-unnatural hair is to make it easier for people to distinct between the characters. Otherwise, it might become confusing to the audience - haircut alone isn't explicit enough and there's only so much you can do about facial features.

I got a question about the rooftop thing. Were students allowed onto the rooftops at one point, say in the 2000's, 1990's, or 1980's, or possibly earlier? Sometimes writers and writers have been out of high school for so long they may think the things they as students got away with easily are still common place actions today. It's just a thought.

That’s a good point! I asked my mom(she is over 50 yrs old *naisho that I told you my mom’s age 😂 ) but she said rooftop was already closed even when she was in school. But, maybe some schools let kids go on the rooftop at that time:)

I think school roofs in japan are usually flat because the roof can be used for storage, it's easy for maintainance workers to reach rooftop utilities, it provides a place to shelter in a flood, and it's cheaper than building an actual roof.

Thank you for your explanation because I was thinking the same thing. Good thing, both of you explain about reality in Japan. I can explain about Malaysia High School or Middle School if you're interested to hear.

Well, I particularly think that the Bullying that some Japanese students do with their classmates (which by the way is one of the few real things portrayed in some anime and manga) is what should be banned and reprimanded in schools in Japan, and not girls with hair of different shades of color for example, since this (in my opinion) does not cause any harm, Bullying YES !.

In any circumstance, no matter the setting there will always be that one individual who makes it their sole mission just to rebel. Yes, that also includes Japan high schools, Catholic schools, boot camp, you name it. For some, breaking the rules is essentially their nature and no amount of incarceration, public humilation or even physical torture or complete solitary confinement will ever change that. For someone who's studied criminology, some rules can safely be broken without risk of harm to society. Take for instance someone who decides to wear fancy hair colors to a high school in Japan. They're told not to do it yet they do so unapologetically. Let's say this rebel also has an earring and is known to cuss at the teachers and even talk back. While rude such a rebellious student could've been much more disruptive and as such the actions they are taking does not reasonably constitue as a threat, thus it would be overkill to arrest and charge them. Now however, suppose we have a rebel who instead of chosing not to obey orders, also physically attacks the one giving the orders. Even if the rebel was justified in shanking the wretch there would be no doubt they would be arrested and with enough evidence, or in the case of Japan it wouldn't matter given the ridiculously high conviction rate with or without a confession, officially charged. There is a difference between chosing not to obey orders regardless of the punishment or consequences as some deluded fools might want to say and trying to strangle the living daylights out of the person giving the orders. For the rebel who just doesn't obey orders, I wouldn't expect anything more than a suspension or even a flat out expulsion though if the cops were called I would have to question the country's sanity in determining a legitimte threat. On the other hand, if this rebel were to also try and annihilate the target, why of course I would expect the cops to show up then! I mean, now they've evolved from the ruler breaker to the rule maker breaker. Clearly the latter is more dangerous to society. So in short, for that one rebellious student who just won't listen, who absolutely refuses to apologize, unless they physically attack the rule giver or enforcer, I wouldn't expect them to get arrested. Maybe suspended or perhaps expelled, yes but an arrest would the height of stupidity. So is this what typically happens in the event of such a rebel who doesn't take towards attacking the ruler maker or rule enforcer in Japan?

Well I mean, I wouldn't say they're ALL lies, I'm pretty sure that some if not most animes with highschool are based off of real highschool, to an extent though.

I went to 3 different Junior High Schools, and all 3 were very different, Periods, campus compositions, strictness, etc, etc. The HS I went to for all 4 years, had mostly nothing in common to what we see in High Schools, in movies or television here in the U.S. Having festivals would of been cool though. I played Football in HS, and I had to be in a special Football P.E. class, and all we did was run, run, run, lift, and run some more, it would of been ok, but having Football P.E in first period kinda sucked. Anyhow, the reason I mentioned the football thing, was because of the "Haikyu" volleyball club, sounded like my football experience. I would really like to see a "Hard Knocks" style documentary on how Japanese life really is in high school, and other aspects of the day to day. I say this, but I want to see from Japanese people, POV, and not a foreigners point of view.

Fact. Girls sailor uniforms in real life has longer skirt length about below the knee unlike in the anime the skirts are always above the knee and you could see the color of the underwear their wearing.
