How safe is it living in nearby UMBC as a student??? Heard rumors regarding Baltimore crime rate

It’s pretty safe I would say since al thought it may be in Baltimore, it’s in Baltimore County and not Baltimore city, so it is a different atmosphere. Also UMBC is surrounded by a very small community/town. Much of the hype comes from the students and so once school is not in session and students go home, it’s more quiet in arbutus/halethorpe

At the end of the day, there will be crime like any other place and you should be aware of your surroundings, but I think being in the arbutus/halethorpe area is pretty safe and somewhere you can feel comfortable

UMBC is pretty safe but at the end of the day, the area has crime like any other city where you should still be aware of your surroundings, especially since it’s not it’s own little college town, it’s still open to the public

UMBC GRE-302, TOEFL-99. Applied Stony brook, Arizona State University (prerequisite was requested), Illinois Institute of Technology Chicago, University of Illinois Springfield, UMBC, University of Texas at Dallas. GA, TA, RA in AI & ML. Visa Interview - How Finance, Job correlates with the course (Queue- if passport returned, visa might get reject). EKAT helpful at UMBC. 600 living expenses. ~35L amount for 2 yr studies includes fee.

Is Baltimore a safe place to live? There were instances of shooting and many say that it's not a safe place.

If you plan on studying in UMBC then you would be staying in Arbutus / Halethorpe which is a county and in the suburbs. Baltimore is the downtown which is 15-20 min. away from it so you don't need to worry. Irrespective of where you stay in the US you need to be careful and alert all the time. I hope this helps
