Right here's my theory: They are twins - both aware of the others existence, one lived in NYC already, and the other planned with her to move there with the plan to finesse the system on rent. See, rent in New York is astronomical and so the twins devise that they can pretend to be one person to half their rent cost, clothes, ect. as well as balancing more work and leisure time- they just need the dim witted boyfriend to be none the wiser as they think he'll be freaked out. This is explained by the sporadic work schedule, and why sometimes he wakes up and she's gone - it's not one person. The events on the day described are explained by one twin getting jealous and wanting the boyfriend all to themselves. They tell the other twin some grim lie about the boyfriend being abusive, or a nonce, or something knowing the other twin will go mad and want out. The twin who trashed the place was the slightly hungover one from the night before and the other twin was able to just swoop in and secure the nest.

My theory is that the girlfriend that hugs him from behind is the lookalike stranger and sociopath and has made up evidence to his girlfriend that he was cheating so she would get mad and leave him for good. Explains why she knew the key code and had the keys, they also never say that the 2nd girlfriend opened the door it was him who opened the door and suggested to go see the security.

Clash between the present and the future: while he's standing outside some weird space-time event happened and he's seeing and interacting with the future, or she unwittingly got taken to the past without realising

The one that smashed up the house is the real girlfriend who’s pissed because she’s been told he spent the night with someone else. The woman that grabs him is the shit stirrer stalker who’s had the same hair style/surgery to look like the original girlfriend because she was in love with the guy. The crazy girl who shows up in the work uniform then becomes the original girlfriend.

I heard the same story on another podcast, they actually found the guy who posted it and got him to come on to tell it himself. Apparently he seemed really genuine about it even off camera. Don't have a theory, just wanted to add that bit of info. Some minor details were different in the one I heard though: the doppleganger was in completely different clothes that the gf didn't even own, and there were security cameras in the building not the flat but it didn't capture her face well. The podcast's called Radio Rental in case anyone's interested.

My theories: A) The Gf had a twin sister she didn’t know about. The guy then gets into a relationship with both girls without knowing they are different. That would explain how the angry girl had a key and the passcode and why she thought he was cheating. Now this is pretty far fetched BUT - there are thousands of stories of twins separates at birth, who end up having creepily similar lives. Down to the men they marry, their job, and even where they choose to live. There has been cases of identical twins living in the same city, despite being separated at birth and living across the world from each other for most of their lives. I admit that theory is still pretty crazy as it would require the BF to be able to juggle a relationship with two people without knowing they aren’t the same person. Theory B) It’s a crazy stalker. A crazy woman who is obsessed with the guy, figures out their passcode, maybe steals a key, or snags one and makes a copy of it. This theory is really far fetched as it requires a stranger stealing both the password and the key. But eh. Theory C) GF really is just crazy. While it seems impossible for her to change her clothes that fast, it can be done as Stevie said. Maybe the GF doesn’t remember doing it, or is just insane. The problem with these stories (assuming they are true) - is you are taking one persons point of view and memory of events. So on paper it seems impossible but there is many factors that he could have gotten wrong. Maybe the Gf wrapping her arms behind him happened later then he remembered (so it’s wasn’t as instant). Maybe the stranger didn’t actually have the key code or key and he had left the door open. So the stranger pushed her way into the apartment and ransacked it. We won’t ever know.

He was pissed from the night before and done something he couldn't remember. Then the girlfriend dumped him and took everything and went away. The next morning she isn't there because she's left but he couldn't remember. But later on she died in a car crash in the taxi. He sees the news in heartbreak. At this point he starts getting flashbacks to when they broke up. Then he goes depressed and feels lonely so he starts making stuff up in his head to block out the loneliness. So everything he's seeing like her hugging him at the end is all in his head, and his depression and loneliness is making him go crazy.

Y'all really need to watch Radio Rental.. the actual boy who went through this tells the story, it adds a lot more.. (Episode 02)

I used to work with 2 brothers who were In there late 30s early 40s and one of the brothers told me a story bout how he got up early in the morning to go bathroom before work and he turned the light on and bulb smashed into pieces he then ran to get his phone and rang his brother and said you need to go round mums I think she just died when the brother got there she was laying dead in the bath ! .

There’s a chance it is twins, there were experiments done on unwanted Jewish triplets and twins in New York, where they were all placed in different social classes and documented as they grew to test the nature vs nurture argument and see how each twin or triplet was different. I think that this is in fact a case of an alternate reality clashing with the one he is living now. This has happened before. So, in another reality his partner breaks up with him but for some reason that world has clashed with ours, it explains her having the key to apartment and knowing the pass code of the front door and only taking her clothes, bcuz she (from another reality) will go back again to get the rest of her things but this time in her own reality. This has happened before and ppl have reported it. There was a woman who got up and went to work. She took the same route to work. But when she got their she sees her name on the plaque of the post she wanted but couldnt get in her reality. She also says that her fiancé and her were no longer together. Im sorry i don't remember much of the details bcuz i read it 4 or 5 yrs ago. Im a firm believer that alternate realities do exist and sometimes clash or get mixed up for a brief moment with ours.

I think both versions of the girlfriend were the same person. I think that when the angry girlfriend got in a taxi, he was in such shock and confusion, that he's misinterpreted the timescale between the taxi leaving and his girlfriend hugging him from behind. So she's probably gone round the corner, hopped out the cab and got changed, then snuck up on him whilst he's still confused. And because it was so so weird he thinks only a few seconds have passed, or at least that's how he remembers it now. So I think the girlfriend is crazy and was messing with him.

The best theory is one I just read on reddit, that the guy was cheating and they look similar because they’re both his type. Everything kicked off and the first one leaves, the other arrived soon to go inside to see the mess, in attempt of explaining the mess and the footage of a similar looking woman he fabricated this wild story. He probably posted it online to try and convince her further that he believes it’s what happened

It's very strange but I work in a care home but schizophrenia can really disturb people; I've seen how firsthand somebody with schizophrenia can act exceptionally VERY irrationally. People can do things that they legitimately do not remember and is scary, so unless the girlfriend somehow had a sister who either was a schizophrenic, or maybe she herself was? Maybe she did somehow have a schizophrenic episode but somehow managed to change after extremely quickly? Maybe that would explain her acting irrationally initally? That is all I can really help with.
