Simple is nice! This is the way to get down to a creek and back up to my tent. As a matter of fact, i can see slinging a water bag on a rig just like this, fixing it to a tree down by the creek. Did you ever make a video about that? Thanks Corp.

Hey, I’ve got a comment/ question completely unrelated to this video BUT: RU-vid decided that i should watch a video about giants… and clics after clics I’ve seen a video about the Kandahar giant. What do you think about that ? I’m asking this question in a very humorous way, just like to know your take on it. Thanks

Great video on the application of rope rigging and knot use. This is something different that I have not seen in other videos besides the same old ridgeline, how to fly a tarp, and tying to a steak. This type of instruction is more direct and full filling in the use and application of rope rigging and knot use. More rope rigging videos would be most appreciated.

Awesome AF Video.... Bowline: I have used 1000's of times around trees and myself - learned to tie it around myself with one hand for rescue (never have needed rescue so far). Tautline Hitch: 10000's of times putting up tents. Prusik knot: 10000's of times for tarp ridge lines and other uses including climbing up steep slopes "just like that" you showed.. Fisherman's Knot: too many times to count. Truckers hitch: every time I use my trailer to haul something. I started learning knots at age 4 because my Dad took me to Boy Scouts as he was the Scout Master and didn't have a sitter. I learned knots in Boy Scouts and used them in Boy Scouts and the rest of my life! They are an essential life skill!!! This video and your other videos teaching knots and their practical use are some of the most important videos you have ever done - EVERYONE needs the life skill of knowing how to tie some basic knots and they are fascinating for young kids to learn, practice, and use!!!!

Excellent video. Unlike some other instructors, that show things way too fast to grasp the idea, you have slowly explained it in a way that cannot be misconstrued and I thank you for that. Now I know what a Prussic knot is and how to apply it for different applications. Agree on tying the rope to self...if you did slip, could prevent a long fall off a tall cliff. Once saw someone use two of those Prussic knots as ascenders on a rope, one you could rest your foot/ weight in and rest if tired.

I liked your idea of dragging the rope with you using the bowline. But I think you could improve it by tying a 2nd loop, say 1 or 2 arms length from you, through the prussik loop. Thus, in case you did slip, the rope end would catch you, as it would put tension on the prussik. The prussik is a very strong safety knot. I hope the brief description made sense...

Totally agree with you. Skills are all, but only as long as you know what to do with them. It's knots are the best example. You might just know 4 or 5, but if you know how to use them, it's all you need. KISS philosophy at it's best. Thks for sharing the knowledge!

You mentioned about the rope not intended to catch you if you fall. You could still make it work that way by tying the bowline around yourself and through the Prusik loop. I’ve ascended complete suspension with 1 Prisik on my harness and the second as a foot step like you used as a hand pull.

We actually had to do this scenario in real life when my buddy is sleeping bag came out of his strapping on the bottom outside of his pack with his bedroll and we were on a narrow Goat Trail and it rolled down over a steep embankment and the only way to get back up or down was using a rope not as fancy as your setup but same idea

I'd like to try using the end of the rope as the handle. But when I've had to do it, I've tied it before I thot of trying it and already tied the dead end around my waist. I'm not sure if you said it in this vid but this can be doubled and used to hoist things too: ie your 'Predator trap' video. Great vid! In the Army, we learned something called the Body Rappel. I think you wrapped the rope across your chest, before going around your butt, and your strong hand would be the brake....dont remember exactly. We also went on Adventure Training from the Armed Forces Recreation Center in Garmisch. They taught us to make a harness, 3 ropes/knots and 3 caribiners, forgot the method, cannot find it online. We hiked to Meiler Hutte, did some rappeling and rock climbing in that area.

Shawn, I'd like to recommend another channel to you called "Field Days." Matt (Field?) is not a military guy or survival guy, he's a crazy Aussie fishing adventure dude. His videos aren't really about survival techniques, he just uses them all the time. He goes out on the W. Australia coast with a fishing rod, a few lures, a knife, and usually minimal water, food and gear for three days at a time. He also has a nice rig and a few toys, so some of the adventures are to the middle of no place, or on the ocean. Some of your videos feel like classroom lessons, and sometimes the camp outs seem more like field demonstrations. That is awesome if you are lookin' for 'just the facts jack' how to info. He is out there building a shelter on a beach, or getting the truck unstuck, or catching real food and cooking it just as part of the adventure. The dude eats! I'd pair you two to reboot Dual Survival in a second. You are different dudes, but bro's at heart. He is my other Sunday morning usual but his channel is on a break right now, they had a little one, but there are a ton of vid's to catch up on. You seem to be looking for a way to update your over-nighters, and I think you could find some inspiration in what Matt gets up to. One of the things about knowing survival skills, and being prepared, is that you tend to end up being good at avoiding situations where you need them in the first place. Matt's channel is a good reminder to go out and find everyday adventures to survive, and have some fun doing it. I also think you two could make the colab of the year video, if you were to take your wife to Australia for 'vacation.' Just sayin'...

My brother who climbs likes the figure 8 on a bite too because it's easier to verify. As for easier to tie, I personally find bowlines easier, but that's because I practiced more esp marlin spike hitch to bowline, as shown here.
