Only the weight is fake (ebay seller gave the weight WITH the epoxy.) They're cheap because they're a 1mm slice dipped in epoxy, then embedded inside a 7mm epoxy slab. If not, then they'd just crumble in your hand, if only 1mm thick. But the actual grams of pallasite is far lower than the quoted grams. (Mine is magnetic, w/traces of rust. So, not just made of plastic and melted solder.)
Excellent observation - but at the end of the day, eBay or Etsy only cares about the item total weight - not the % of it that is the actual meteorite...especially since we'll never be able to extract the raw material...it's a permanently new composite now.
I've never checked, apparently it's not recommended to apply magnets to meteorites, I Googled it. Doesn't matter to me, actually. I just like their vibe independent of their magnetism.
@@CrystalConcentrics Pallasites do rust, so look closely, w/magnifying glass. Sericho Kenya pallasites from China, in thick epoxy, have visible rust! (So, at least they're not made of melted solder.)
