To determine whether an image is AI-generated or real, there are several key details and techniques to consider. Here are some tips to help you identify AI-generated images:
Visual Characteristics
- **Human Anatomy**: AI often struggles with accurately rendering human features. Look for oddities in fingers and hands, such as extra fingers or unnatural shapes. Hair might appear too perfect or have strange loops, and skin might be unnaturally smooth or flawless.
- **Text and Patterns**: AI-generated images often have difficulty with text, resulting in garbled characters or misspelled words. Patterns, such as those on brick walls or decorative wallpapers, may appear inconsistent or degrade into bizarre visuals.
- **Symmetry and Logic**: AI can have trouble maintaining symmetry in images, such as with architectural features or repeating patterns. Additionally, look for logical inconsistencies, like objects that don't make sense in context (e.g., a mirror not reflecting the correct scene).
Technical Analysis
- **Resolution and Zoom**: Examine the image at the highest possible resolution and zoom in to identify inconsistencies. AI-generated images may have textures that look too smooth or glossy, and objects might appear to blend unnaturally into their surroundings.
- **Lighting and Shadows**: Check for inconsistent lighting and shadows. AI-generated images may have lighting that doesn't match across different objects or shadows that don't align with the light sources.
Contextual Evaluation
- **Background Anomalies**: Look beyond the main subject to the background for signs of AI generation. Backgrounds might be overly simplistic or complex, with elements that don't belong or are distorted.
- **Emotional and Contextual Consistency**: Faces in AI-generated images might have expressions that don't match the mood of the scene. Additionally, consider whether all elements in the image make sense contextually.
