Hey folks, This is Terry, The guy attempting to hide his belly in a gray shirt in this video. You might recall that I was starting to have some concerns about the battery in my mower when we were taping this comparison. I purchased the upgrade model with a 7.5 Ah battery, expressly for being able to mow my lawn on a single charge. At the time of this video it was doing some weird things and I just nursed it along last season. Things have not improved. I just took the battery off the charger, where is has been for a couple of days. When I put it in the mower the meter showed two bars. I proceeded to see how far I’d get. Within 10-12 steps the meter dropped to one bar (I noted the time just to see if the meter was wrong or the battery was bad) exactly ten minutes later I got the red-flashing ring of death and the mower stopped. I have a selection of other EGO tools (hedge trimmer, carbon fiber shaft string trimmer, and the big blower) all of which use smaller batteries and they have been great, with no issues. But I would strongly recommend staying away from the mower with this big battery. I guess I’m going to have to see if Mark will let me borrow his Milwaukee to finish the lawn 😢.
This is why I use Makita tools. They have the longest lasting batteries. Batteries are the expensive part of cordless tools. A buddy of mine had Milwaulkee tools for his construction business but constantly had to have them fixed (lots of trigger failures and a couple of bad batteries) and went back to Makita and never looked back.

I have sooooo many other Makita LXT tools that buying the Makita was a no brainer. I went into the Home Depot to buy a few extra 5AH Makita batteries as I’d just bought the Makita blower. The batteries are $159 each. Saw the Makita mower and saw that it came with four 5AH batteries. It was a no brainer, the danged mower was almost FREE! 😎

Is that US$159 for 5ah? Sounds like a rip off. Here I new Zealand it costs NZ$170 which is less than US$110. Sometimes pawn shops sell NZ $90 for near brand new ones
Gents, cheers for doing the side by side opinion of these 3 units from an owners point of view. It is important information and good to have available. I must admit that I am a makita eco system person (tools and garden) but i guess I’m interested to see the coming shift from “gas” powered tools to electric tools. I agree that I don’t miss having a small tin of fuel to fill or the noise and heat of it all. As a homeowner and not a landscape professional, thank you.

Thanks guys for comparing these lawnmowers. Regarding removing the bag on the EGO unit, press the single hand latch and flip the entire handle forward to the pre-set stop to gain 100% wide open area of the rear end of the lawnmower.
Almost every reviewer misses that awesome feature that ego engineered into their handle to EASILY fold the handle part way. Makes it easy to remove the bag with ZERO obstruction.
I have the same ego mower. I have the ego hedge clipper, carbon fiber string trimmer with the power load which is awesome. and the 650cfm blower the 765 wasn’t out yet…and I will say I love the platform. The hedge clippers I got are insanely nice. Way better than anything corded and just as powerful as gas and way easier to use than gas. I will be buying one of the snowblowers this upcoming season. I bought a cheap 350dollar snow Joe snow blower and it was a huge mistake. Shoulda just went big.
Excellent video - I have limited storage space and went with the EGO because of that. I too have ran into the battery issue reading 3 bars and swear I charged it correctly. This happened once so far. I really like the mower and how easy it is to store away. Great feature.
Genuine product analysis like this will get my support every time. We don't have the luxury of being able to test these mowers and much of the guess work has now been eliminated.
I have watched many RU-vid videos and none have commented on how well the lawnmowers bag. I choose to bag the grass. To me, it just makes for a much cleaner look and “feel” of the lawn. I think that if the lawnmower comes with a bag, it should be part of the review. Kudos to you for addressing that in your review.
Thanks, I had a problem with weeds for a while and one professional told me to bag until the weeds were under control. I never really stopped and I find it important. The Milwaukee is still the best bagger in my opinion.
Looked at the Makita and the Milwaukee tonight at Home Depot and noticed the Makita came with 4 batteries and nearly half the price. Don’t have any Makita tools (have Milwaukee and Bosch) so coming with 4 batteries is a big plus.

I personally do not care about decibal ratings or specs, it's how it does in the real world not on a price of paper. haha I didn't think I would watch a 30 min lawnmower vid but really enjoyed you guys being yourself. you guys should def start a review channel! btw growing up in this technology era, just having gas powered equipment feels better. (to be fair never have used a electric mower but it just feels right) I personally don't really see any major advantages over gas, so what was your reason for switching over and will you be going back to ur Honda pro series?
Great comparison on these. I just replaced my Ego with the Makita but I really debated about the Milwaukee but couldn't justify the extra $300 (now $400). One thing with Ego is I could not find a battery I could buy without a tool and after 3-4 years the battery wouldn't mow my entire yard anymore (1/4 acre). I like the Makita uses standard batteries I can easily buy in the store and same with the Milwaukee as so many tools use it. One video suggestion make sure you both talk louder or get a small mic so you are easy to hear. Really had to crank the sound up.
@@daddystired Just checked amazon and you can only buy the ones at 5amp and below. For the lawn mower I really need a 7.5 or 10amp battery. Those are still not available anywhere. Other than that I really like the Ego ecosystem and the 2.5amp are great for my hedge and string trimmers!
Great and thoughtful comparison! A little tip for next time to improve the audio - if you're using something like DaVinci Resolve (free) to edit, you can chuck on an audio limiter set just over the level of Marks voice, and that'll bring everything down to a similar level.
Good tip! I didn't even think of that. Sadly I record content and almost never get around to editing it, so I never post. Now that I know that someone might watch I'll double down on the effort. Trust me I hate bad audio so I feel your pain!
Great Video. Really appreciate the clarity of your opinions and observations. I own the Makita XML09 which is considered the commercial model. The main differences are no folding handles, no side discharge, and complete aluminum deck(no plastic nose). Build quality is superb. Cut quality is good, very good on weekly or 5 day mows. To me this is a finish mower. It can handle 2 week growth when totally dry but i don't recommend waiting. I do not need folding handles nor want them due to the amount of loading and unloading the mower. Clients that request all electric lawn service, must mow weekly or I turn the work down. I have been using Makita tools for many years, so I have batteries and experienced fantastic customer service. The service center in my area is great, walk in and they handle it, if under warranty its free, if not its reasonable, either way you return in a short period of time and pick up a professionally repaired tool. Run time could be better and I am sure they will improve it. The 5.0 batteries charge from 1-2 bars to full in about 45 minutes in my truck. I have a factory inverter with 110 outlets. It will power a single battery speed charger, not the double. The 36V XBU02Z blower will burn through the batteries(15minutes) when on the highest setting(6) when on 4 it has good power and run time. The XHU04Z Hedge Trimmer has great run time and cut quality. The rotating handle took a minute to get use to. I bought the XUX01Z Power Head as I have many attachments due the fact that my lawn care equipment is all Makita 4 cycle. The Powerhead is awesome, super light, non fatiguing(especially with the addition of a Darwin grip on attachments). The edger attachment is my most used electric tool. It is fantastic. Its noise level allows me to start work before 7am(City noise code) as it is quiet and very powerful. Its always on my trailer. The other tool that is without question A BEAST is XCU03 14" Chainsaw. I have low volume chainsaw use so electric is the way to go and this puppy cuts!!! To me its all about platform. It doesn't make sense to have 3-4 different chargers and battery types. Non commercial users can get by with Ryobi or even Hart as the tools are less expensive and work well(especially Ryobi) For commercial application strictly lawn care EGO or Husqvarna, for commercial operators that have many other tools a platform like Makita or Milwaukee are the way to go.
Fantastic comment GLS !!! Hello from a fellow Makita Fan! The mowers are great, and its a shame the LXT batteries are not offered in a greater capacity! And they don't even offer the 6.0 Ah batteries with these OPE Kits!? I don't get it! I can only imagine how well the mower would do with a good, 21700 celled battery, lets say in the 8-9 Ah range!?!?!? Oh well, it will never happen, so maybe a dual battery XGT will be forthcoming. I also own all three mowers. Best cut quality is Ego cross cut. Strongest build Makita Most powerful motor Milwaukee. Makita and Milwaukee have the same cut quality. Ope tools,blowers trimmers etc. Best is Makita Then Ego Third Milwaukee I own a lawn care business and have solar panels and charge my own batteries thanks to the 🌞.
Thanks for the input! I'd have to agree that the cut is similar for Makita and Milwaukee, although the Milwaukee can do it faster with the same cut. I didn't use the EGO on my lawn so I cannot speak for that.
@@markpuzas I have one Milwaukee mower and two Makita 21" self propelled commercial mowers . I read your message that the Milwaukee is faster ? Both have a 21" blade and both goes faster than I can cut so I don't understand what you mean ? Cut quality in both is the same. Makita us a better build mower. Milwaukee has a bit stronger 💪 motor.

I would go with Makita been out for 5yrs +… proven.. Milwaukee New to lawn Mower field & No Side grass discharge of grass is long you can’t cut 1st & then go back re-cut with collection bag.. that why like Makita..!
Thanks for this video. I was considering the Ego even though I'm fully into the Makita ecosystem already. Here in Canada the Ego is a fair bit cheaper than the Makita. But....the extra 5ah batteries I can use with the rest of my tools is a consideration. Makita it is.
Great video! I was on the fence about the Makita and the ego. I have the Makita ecosystem but part of my backyard is going up hill and went with the ego bc of the weight and storage factors. I've had a Honda mower for years and the second blade of the ego sold me personally, I get the feeling it's a better mulcher than the others but time will tell.
Love the thoughts. I also agree the Milwaukee blower is nice but it's not super powerful. I made the mistake of getting it for my 1 acre yard with a lot of large trees and it can't handle all the leaves. But if it want to use it for cleaning the shop of my driveway it's fine. I need to borrow my neighbors Stihl commercial grade backpack blower when I want to actually blow the leaves in the fall.
yup. awesome video. I'm waiting for my Makita mower from the orange store. I ordered one last week and it came in a busted box all strapped up with tape. looked awful but I gave it the benefit of the doubt and took it home figuring as long as the actual product was in good shape i wasn't going to keep the box anyway... well as soon as I set the mower down on my driveway, the front right side wheel was 1/4" off the ground and spun freely. Just like a warped table at a restaurant I could push down on the wheel lifting the rear one up. I could not accept this for as much as I paid for it. Took it back immediately (frustrating) and the return process was quick but no exchange. Just ordered a new one and now I wait and see if the next one is actually brand new. I'm excited for it but if there is another problem I'll give up and get something else. I wanted this one because of the batteries which I already have. The biggest downside for me is the handles not folding. I'm not a pro and I do care about space but I think the positives will outweigh the negatives.
Great video, I've had my ego for 5yrs(¹st gen) the self-propelling went on me and I almost got the Makita. But, I don't have any Makita tools/batteries. I have several of the Milwaukee products and batteries, so I pulled the trigger. In a nut shell, the ego has lasted 5 years with zero issues!(until now) The milwaukee is a beast and made solid, yet it is still smooth. I hope it passes the test of time.
For the older gentleman with the EGO bagging issue, pull the lever and push the bar completely forward. So much easier than the way you are doing it now. Sometimes, I have to unplug my EGO charger and plug it back in to reset it. After that, it charges perfectly for months
I think it’s much easier to remove the bag on the EGO than the others if you simple lift the handle to the up position. Then the whole thing is completely open and no fiddling with reaching through anything. I didn’t understand why he didn’t simply lift it, the lever is right there!!. The ring doesn’t bother me whatsoever on the EGO. But the biggest things I like about the Ego over the others is it’s EXTREMELY light and won’t rust.
Cool review, I got the Milwaukee yesterday, was very hesitant about the price ($1500) Canadian but I have a ton of Milwaukee already so it seemed worth it for the battery. They need to make a bare tool option
I think they are hesitant about making a bare tool only option because they want to ensure that people have dual 12 AH batts for optimal performance and 12AHs are pretty rare in their tool set. Just my thoughts.
Just bought the Milwaukee a few days ago after my gas mower wouldn’t start. I already had their string trimmer, edger, and blower. The price tag hurt - but i have 2 extra 12.0 batteries anyway so it kinda made sense. Its a good mower so far. Quiet, lasts long enough to do what i need. I cut my whole front lawn in the dark the first night i had it. The headlights are awesome. Several cars actually stopped to listen to the thing cause its so quiet. Milwaukee does make a high lift blade, and a cover for the mower. Ordered both. Its pretty impressive but i do miss the full power of gas ALL THE TIME. The power saving feature on the electric mowers mean they dont work as well as a vacuum to pull up leaves and stuff of you bag. Hoping the upgraded bade helps - but you can keep the Milwaukee in high power mode at the expense of runtime. I had 2 fully charged 12.0 batteries when i brought the mower home. First thing i did was throw the 2 new batteries on the rapid charger (which charges BOTH at the same time, not sequentially). By the time i was done with my front lawn, the new batteries showed a 3/4 charge - which is plenty to do my small yard.
@@Vancellc I’m a lineman for a utility company - at work all our chainsaws and impacts are Milwaukee’s now. Not even including what i have at home, or all the normal Milwaukee cordless tools at work or work lights, - I have their m18 chainsaw, the pole saw, m12 chainsaw, hedge trimmer, 9” demo saw, underground cable cutters, bolt cutters. In the MX line i have their generator, demo saw, and jackhammer sitting in a tool room. They are ALL impressive (except the cordless bolt cutters). The mower is great for the guy that “just” wants to cut and maintain a clean lawn - but it does lack the power and lift of a gas mower. It wont pick up nearly as much leaves or sunk down debris compared to my old gas one. I mean, its really convenient and easy to use and store, but it honestly doesn’t perform ‘as good’ as a decent gas mower - even with the upgraded blade. Ive even tried running it full power all the time and its still lacking when compared to gas. That said - its still a great mower, i dont regret buying it - and I’m betting all the cordless models share the same shortcomings. Not having to worry about fuel, starting, or dealing with the noise makes up for it.
Fairly comprehensive video and worth watching. Just one thing any chance you could do a quick video of this noise or ticking coming from the Makita. Is it from the motor, does it happen in eco mode as well. Could it be a bent shaft from hitting something, or maybe an unbalanced blade or refit it, also check up against the output shaft is there any wire or string or anything coming in contact with that part or tangled ? Any loose fittings on board causing it something rattling perhaps ? Just putting some ideas out there as have not heard the noise it yet. As I am also looking to getting that milwaukee as well over the next season.
Sorry just seeing this. Thanks for the complement on the video. We thought it was what the people wanted to see... That said, the ticking was definitely from the motor. bluntly I don't know if a microphone would pick it up. It was really audible when I had noise canceling ear buds on because it was a noise that was randomized in comparison to the whir of the blade. That said it wasn't something it was hitting. I could slowly rotate the blade and feel it with my hand. I cannot make another video because I already returned it.
Nice video, thanks to the 2 of you. I'd be interested in seeing more of them in action, and your casual judgments after another year. Would be interested in the other tools as well (blowers/trimmers etc) I'm surprised that the Ego isn't getting more attention I only mow 1500-2000sqft, so maybe my needs are different. Ego pros: -easier to fold & adjust height. Might be lighter. Throttle is fine with me -fast charger on some packages -I like the blower, string trimmer, edger, -I think a mower battery charger combo goes on sale ~$500 (maybe once a year?) pretty common on craigslist if you want to try used pretty common repair videos on youtube, and troubleshooting, modifications/upgrades (though same for other products) cons- -battery warranty complaints (myself included) -doesn't seem to lift or bag great (I have the old, single-blade model & am not upset enough to spend money on new blades) I would rather have a light, kinda cheap-feeling, plastic, mower, than push around a tank. I'm just mowing a suburban lawn, & storing it in a garage I'm not worried about dropping a bomb on it. Like this video said, electric has been really nice to grab for 15 minutes at a time, and weight + easy storage helps keep that attractive too. I think I've heard that: -Makita cut quality is the worst? -Milwaukee is overpriced? (and while 1.5x more expensive, not any better than the others for suburban duty) Idk about their bundled batteries, chargers, warranties, etc. Idk about their lawn tool ecosystems Maybe it's not as convenient to need 2-4 batteries (I grab 1x 2.5ah, or 1x 4ah 56V battery, walk over to my leaf blower, and blow for 5 minutes. It probably isn't as nice to grab 2x 18v batteries to do the same). Seems whiny, but usually my hands are full with a broom/dustpan/trashcan, whatever. Don't want to lug around and charge 2 separate 8-12ah batteries -The Makita looks pretty flexible in the video. The Milwaukee seems a bit overdesigned (folding handle seems kinda.. control panel is a bit dramatic. Kinda feels like they're trying to find justifications for charging $1000 for a mower. Speed control or noise control seems cool) -I don't think I want to deal with 18v string trimmers, (and 2x 18v string trimmers, blowers, whatever. To each his own) Maybe people like having only 1 brand (M18 hand tools, and M18 lawn tools) I think I prefer Ego lawn tools, and M18 (or other, probably Ryobi) hand tools. For Ego: a 2.5 + 4.0. or 2.4 + 7.5 (again I have a small yard, idk) For Milwaukee: 2x 3.0 have been fine. 3.0 + 8.0 would probably be better. I guess the varying preferences of consumers is what keeps all these product lines in business. I don't mean to sound like an Ego salesman. I'm not even sure I like the company. I've had to warranty a 2.5 & 7.5 battery, and didn't like the process. I know batteries are ridiculously expensive (I think it's usually most cost-effective to buy a new bundled tool on sale & sell something). The mower doesn't seem to lift/bag great. The old 15" trimmer would break line all the time. You hear complaints about the snow blower & zero turn mower. Etc. - I've had to warranty 2 Milwaukee 1.5ah batteries & a vacuum too, tbf. It just seems like the least-worst option, for me. (or maybe Ryobi. But this was back @ 2020, when Ego didn't really have strong competitors). Today, I think I'd look hard at Ryobi/Milwaukee hand tools, and probably still Ego. I guess Dewalt flexvolt batteries might have some longevity complaints(?) I can understand why, if I bought the Milwaukee, I'd try to talk myself into liking the Milwaukee. With the Ego, I bought it at a historical low or something, and don't have any sentiment for it. I enjoy that. I both like/dislike Ego. Whatever you buy, you have to stay on top of warranty, & do it as soon as you notice problems. tl;dr: I like the Ego bc it's light, "cheap", charges 1 battery fast, acceptable performance. I haven't found anything more attractive yet. I'm not married to it Check out Ryobi's "Whisper" series. - that seems like the next luxury upgrade I'll be buying, when some time has passed & they decide how many tools are available. Or if another brand makes a similar Quiet line. Seems like we're at a point where performance is acceptable, time to look at extra conveniences, or things like cost/runtime/chargetime/weight/etc. (or they go planned obsolescence/cost-cutting designs). But I've had problems with Ryobi products in the past too (alongside Ego & Milwaukee)
Thank you both for the electric mower comparison. Please note 2 items about EGO mowers: 1. The earlier EGO self-propelled mowers had the speed control on the left-hand side, just like the Makita layout in your video. EGO briefly moved the control to the top-center handle, as seen in the model you are using, then reverted back to their *original* design. My earlier model has it on the left-hand side, and I agree that it is much less prone to bumps and errors. 2. To attach/detach/empty the EGO bagger, simply *Tilt* *The* *Handles* *Out* *Of* *The* *Way* with the green lever on the left side of the mower handle. It takes less than 3 seconds, and you instantly have Tons of clearance for bag changes. You are not required to reach through or underneath the handles, as demonstrated in the video at 9:05 minutes (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bsi5SmI6a4k.html). I have used an EGO mower for 3+ years, frequently bag lawn clippings, and Always tilt the handles up a few inches as stated in the EGO manual. In fact, then EGO owner showed how fast you can do this earlier in the video, at 1:55 minutes. 3. The EGO batteries are more *expensive* and harder to find than most other electric mower brands. On my street, no neighbors have a "spare" EGO battery that I can borrow, while several of us have spare Milwaukee, Makita, Dewalt or even Ryobi batteries for various power tools. . . But even so, I am not ready to give up my EGO 21" self-propelled mower yet!

I'd be interested in finding out what the db noise level is with each of the different mowers, because reducing noise and saving my hearing is one of the main reasons why I plan on switching from my gas (Toro super recycler now) to all electric. I've had an electric EGO 650 blower and self-feeding line trimmer for a couple of years and will never go back, because of quality and versitility. I heistated on the mower, because of cost, bagging, and mulching needs, and the next electric models that seen to change every year. However, it's time to cut the pull cord and push the electric trigger.
To gain better access to the ego’s clipping bag fold the handlebar forward to vertical or thereabouts (as if folding it for storage). You can leave the handlebar fully extend. Be careful it doesn’t fall back towards the rear and hit you.
A very good comparison video, and the only one comparing these 3 mowers side by side. I was on the fence between the Makita and the Milwaukee. I decided I wanted the $400 savings over any possible advantage the Milwaukee might have on the Makita. I ordered the Makita, but HD is taking their sweet time (10 days) to deliver it. A discussion of the cut quality would have been nice to hear. I like the rigidity of the Makita. I am replacing my 32 y.o. LawnBoy M-Series mower with it's cast magnesium deck. That thing is a tank. But I am tired of smelling like gasoline and 2-cycle oil after every mow. Most of the other videos are from fan boys of one brand or the other, so the reviews are skewed. This was a very even-handed review. My one question, and the thing that is nagging at me...does the Makita have enough power to deliver a nice looking cut even though it lacks the high lift blade and the "noisy mode?" The Makita fan boys say it's great. The Milwaukee and EGO fan boys say it cuts unevenly and lays down the grass instead of lifting it up. Thanks for this video. Other than the quiet audio, you both did a great job! A follow up video after you have used the Milwaukee a while would be nice to see if you are missing the Makita or not. Thank you!!!
I have the Makita mower and it does lay the grass down. My real complaint is I wish they had the ego handle adjustments. If you put the ego and Makita together you would have a winner

Terry, you mentioned seeing a new Ego model with speed control on the side rather than the middle. Do you remember what model that was? The models I've seen recently still have the control in the middle, which seems like a poor choice. Thanks!
I haven't done an exhaustive study, but I (now) think the one I saw with the side speed control is a smaller lower spec'd version. I don't think my model was changed, I think it was a slightly different model I saw at the store; possibly a 20" rather than the 21XP.

I still find that any battery mower I have used does not quite have the power of my Honda, especially in thick grass. The motor on my Honda does not flinch through heavy, thick grass. I think the next generation of battery powered mowers will be the ticket.
oh hey, im unsure about that flapper for speed control on the milwaukee... Is the Makita the best handle of the three? Do you dislike that flapper at all on the Milwaukee?
I purchased the EGO last year at ACE Hardware and after a couple times cutting the front yard, I took it back. My adult son used it one of the times cutting the front yard and we both really didn't like it. The first negative for both of us was the design of the handles, really not comfortable wrists after using it for not that long of a time. Beyond that there are other issues that just kept my head shaking negatively. I like the looks of the Milwaukee's handles and would buy it if I really had the need but no longer do have a need. Don't buy the EGO, IMO.
100% agree on the ergonomics. My hands cramp after a while. I figured it's because I'm on the shorter side (5'8") and seems like it would be more comfortable for someone like 6ft. Other thing I don't like is how light it is in the front. Any bumps in your yard its going to bounce all over and give you an uneven cut.
I want to ask, are there any issues with pulling these mowers back? I’ve had issues with other mowers where I’ve had difficulty pulling them back because the drive won’t disengage (Toro personal pace).
Great video. I would rather hear an owner's experience than a recitation of stats I can look up. Ego says their batteries can be damaged if left on the charger when fully charged.
Thanks for the review. The Milwaukee looks too short for him. I don’t know how tall he is, but I’m 6’5” tall and it looks like a Milwaukee is built for someone 5’ tall. I would go with the Ego. Ego needs to redesign their handle, so it doesn’t interfere with taking the bag out. That’s crazy. “However you cut it…” No pun intended! 😂🤣😉

The reason quiet mode and headlights exist is so you can mow during dusk in hot climates. Trust me, it gets 110-118 degrees during the day here, you do not mow in the day if you want to survive. Absolute necessity.
Great review and especially helpful as I’m considering the Makita and Milwaukee. Mark, after using it for a bit now, how do you rate the mulch quality of the Milwaukee and do you find the propel mechanism to be fatiguing on your hand?
Hey Jay, I haven't really used the mulch as I typically bag. That said when the bag is full it is pretty much a mulcher and I never notice grass clippings coming out the back, so I assume it mulches well. As for the propel. The machine is much quicker to respond and much faster than either the Makita or EGO, the hand controls are easy to get used to and I find myself not even thinking about them. So they must be fine haha!
I have been mowing with that Ego mower for several weeks now and I have to say my old Honda HRX217HYA with a blade I have not sharpened in 2 yeas does cut better, but the Ego weighs significantly less. The Milwaukee M18 mower has had issues for several consumers of it cutting off randomly while they mow. Have not seen any similar comments for the Makita or Ego. I’m a Milwaukee fan and 80% of my tools are Milwaukee M18, but I would steer clear of that mower. Additionally, the M18 12.0ah battery has known issues for longevity as well.
Can you help me with choosing the mower? I have a lot of milwaukee tools (house construction tools) and batteries as well! I have a hard time to choose.

I'm still using a gas Toro Super Recycler from 2015. I REALLY want to find a suitable electric to replace it, but I am not finding it easy to pick one. I need more power than my Toro can deliver. I believe I am down to the 3 electric brands you reviewed. I have a dozen Makita LXT batteries, so you'd think Makita is a no-brainer choice. I keep hearing the Makita is just so-so from a mulching perspective. I think the Milwaukee would be ok for me, but I have 0.5 acres and no other Milwaukee batteries. So I think I would run out of battery before I am done mowing. It takes me 80 to 85 minutes to cut my lawn. Would the Milwaukee be able to last that long on one charge?
I’ve used Makita products since I started working construction at 16, so I have loads of batteries so it would only make since to stay with the platform I trust. If I used Milwaukee then is buy Milwaukee. The only one I wouldn’t use because I have no idea if there are drills or saws or what is the g-go or whatever it’s called. I’m sure it’s a great lawnmower but I like having extra batteries for what I’m using. I guess if I didn’t have anything battery operated wise the E go or whatever it’s called would be ok. But I love tools way to much. I have a couple Dewalt tools but the rest are Makita. And so far it has never let me down.
An interesting comparison. Do think in 30 years any of these manufacturers will still have batteries available for them? But yes, as mentioned please improve the audio. Thanks
Agree with the Audio. Next time we will bring out the fancy mics... We honestly did this on a whim and didn't think too many people would watch it. Fair point about the batts. That said I did buy a Milwaukee Drill in 2003... They still make a compatible batt for it. Although I have upgraded and broke that down for parts.
This is a disposable society, people don’t hang onto anything that long. Cell phones yearly, lease car, hardly buy, same could be said with battery OPE, only last as long as the batteries, then more sensitive to just buy new, batteries cost majority of the price, better deal when buying a kit, it’s genius for profits and price gouging
Good idea to put the ONE mic on the guy who hardly speaks. Pretty hard to hear the older reviewer. These are all quite expensive mowers which would be ok for people who have large lawns which seems to be the case in Seattle. I would generally stay the hell away from anything first generation and although I do have a ton of Milwaukee stuff I do find it a bit overpriced and in some cases have tools that are under performing especially the first gen stuff. Personally would suggest people buy end of season if they can swing a deal although in this global market I am thinking there will be limited stock anyways. It would be nice to be done with my gas lawn stuff but just not worth the coin to replace a Honda for a power tool company's effort at lawn equipment. Maybe give it a couple years to see if they improve stuff.
I'll be working on the Mic situation. Sorry this was just a spur of the moment thing when we did it so we didn't break out the mic packs and lavs. Regarding first generation and buying at end of season for discounts. I tend to agree with all of that. That said, I got the Milwaukee at $899 and I have a 365 day return policy using the HD Credit card (Which is by far the best feature of that CC). I also find that at the beginning of the season there tends to be a few deals out there worth looking at so keep your eyes peeled.
Good review. I actually have the Milwaukee. Great mower. The start button doesn’t always start on the first try. I suspect there might be a short in the switch. I was considering the Mikita but not folding is a deal breaker. I had a ego and it was ok but I wanted more torque for wet grass
I got the Makita XGT 40v lawnmower with 4 swing back blades. It solves all the issues you mentioned. Heaps of torque for wet tall wet grass. Handles can fold down twice to deck and in half on itself.
I really wanted to see what your comparison offered but your inability to balance the sound made it impossible to watch. I cant hear your guest, and if I crank the volume, you blow my ears out when you talk.
I sold my 1-year-old Honda HRN push mower this last winter because I thought I was moving to a place where I wouldn't need a mower. Now I'm unfortunately having to purchase another one, and I hear that Honda is going to quit making push mowers. Really having a difficult time trying to land on the right one this time.
I will be getting an ego mower. I got an ego chainsaw after a ton of research and I love it. I just got the ego two stage snowblower with four 10 ah batteries. I hasn’t snowed yet. Otherwise I’m a Milwaukee tool owner.

Could the ego batteries automatically switch to storage charge after a certain time on the charger? Storage charge for lipo batteries is safer in the rc world. Just a thought. Thanks for the video.
The Milwaukee doesn't clog up? That's my most insane gripe I have with it.... thing is non stopped clogged, and have to clean the thing after every mow it's so caked with grass inside (as you should but never did with my previous mower). Granted my grass gets think in just a few days, but it's ridiculous.
@@krazmokramer Don't know if it is better but I have order a single blade and I will see if it is any better maybe it comes in Australia with swing back blades is because we hit to may 🪨
I havenowused the single blade like you guys get as standard in the us and I find that the swing back blades are better especially when I pick the grass up, it throws a lot more air and cuts better.
