I often have packages shipped to a UPS store and marked "Hold For ". The is a $5 fee for them doing this, but for some of my packages, it is well worth it. For Amazon purchases, I use Amazon Locker whenever possible.

I would almost rather go to the DMV than the post office. There is usually only one guy working & the line is out the door. He doesn't get the packages either. He has to call someone else up so you have to wait even longer

What I don't understand is why those packadges are on the porch? Where I live, a delivery person is never allowed to leave a package on a doorstep or porch unattended. He or she has to ring the bell and hand the package to the homeowner. If nobody is home, he may ask a neighbour to accept the package, and when he or she does, he has to slip a note in the mailbox that the package is with the neighbour. If there are no neighbours or they don't want to accept the package, the delivery person has to take it to a service point. He has to leave a note in the mailbox saying that he tried to deliver a package, but nobody was home. With that note and an ID, the recipient can pick up the package at the service point. That is why there are no porch pirates here.

All of this because the shipping companies don't want to take the extra time & cost to deliver the packages properly! Who's bright idea was it to just leave packages outside on the door step anyways? Who started this ridiculous procedure? I say, get rid of all of the delivery companies, ship packages U.S.P.S. or Canada Post & if there is no one home to receive the package, then leave a card & drop it off at a local postal station for the customer to pick up at their convenience.

I was just thinking if it would be possible to get an Amazon box and then fill it with concrete. The joy of watching people try and lift the thing and buggering up their back would be a fantastic thing to watch. A bit like when my mom glued a £1 coin to the middle of a pedestrian crossing one day, just so she could watch people trying to pick it up while she sat drinking coffee in a little café.
