You can't talk about electronic music without mentioning Detroit. The city's DJs and producers birthed the genre we now call techno. Detroit, however, has always had a creative streak, due in large part to the boom and subsequent bust of the auto industry. Quite simply, Detroit is a city of extremes, and its music reflects that. Detroit's importance in the global electronic music scenes is often referred to in the past tense. With the recent emergence of Kyle Hall and other young Detroit producers, however, it's clear that a spark remains. When we visited, we found a number of artists with their eyes (and ears) firmly set towards the future. After our time there, it's clear that Detroit will endure and innovate for years to come.

I think Detroit has more potential than any other city in America right now. All of the crumbling buildings are the best places for fostering creativity from resourceful people. Not to mention the legendary impact the city made on music and culture that we still feel today-Detroit must rise again!

I appreciate seeing a film that address the issues in Detroit but shows the positive. I was so happy to see RJ Watkins and Youthville. I would have liked to see and hear from Kevin Saunderson, Derrick May, Juan Atkins since they are credited as being the founders. Or even Carl Craig considering the influence he's had. I do enjoy this whole series. I love seeing how music influences people all over the world.

Fascinating creation that came from this city. There’s the mechanical aspect, the soul aspect, a futuristic aspect, and an intensely moody aspect. It’s the perfect fusion - it is the most complete musical expression of the human experience from my point of view. Techno. And the many offshoots (that adhere to musical and creative integrity). It is brilliant and nothing has moved me to my core the way this music does.

Great Documentary. I was born on the East Side of Detroit. Sad that most of the houses were empty lots when I went in 03'. I love this video. I try to tell people that so many focus on the negative things out of Detroit, but, there's so much more to the city that if given the chance they'd see the cool things. Thanks for sharing guys. Best Wishes in your Music Journeys. Take care

These warehouse parties (house before house) happened in London during the early to mid 80s. The mainstream clubs were only interested in first generation hip hop or Afrika Bambaataa (body poppin) type electro as opposed to the more dance oriented Cybertron style of electro. Under the leadership of the "wonderful" Margaret Thatcher, a lot of London's traditional industries went bust. There were a lot of derelict buildings around Shoreditch, Wapping, Kings Cross and London Bridge (underneath the railway arches) and even Covent Garden. During the weekdays we would source venues, bribe property management, even pretend to be buying property so that we could get inside and look around. Saturdays was the night playing similar records like Klien & MBO and anything left field, progressive and electronic at about 120 bpm - 125 bpm. Crowds were 400 plus and there was even a fatality. Someone ventured away from the music into so other unlit part of the building and fell through the floor. The parties were mixed attracted all types. What always amazed me was how well dressed the people would be to dance in what was basically a death pit, shit hole. 🤔😆
