Playing Dayz as a dedicated sniper (with no actual military training or background), I love this video. I've tried to do some reading an employ a lot of the decision making here, and have done so in the past to great effect. One of the most amazing things I have yet to master? Patience and focus together in the huge sums that is required to do that job properly. You have my respect & a new subscriber! P.s Please do more Dayz.
Finally! Someone who actually uses real life tactics in Dayz instead of just running around. I'm also currently a Soldier but in the US and I've been using some of the tactics I learned such as room clearing, patrolling techniques, terrain identification, fire superiority, hand signals etc. I appreciate these tips, especially coming from a real Sniper. Cheers from across the pond 🍻
I have over 1’000 hours playing as a covert sniper roll. I play in a 20 man group and I usually scout out enemy bases and set traps. My entire job for my group is to track and locate enemy positions. Now I don’t take the game seriously as it is a game however the way I play I’ve had a character alive for 300 hours. The best way to play is to be disciplined enough to know which shots to take and what to walk away from.
@@eltatajose nothing wrong with playing a video game 😂 have one that plays dayz wit me 🤷🏼♂️ keep yo thoughts to yourself if you don’t like something someone says
even more easy to spot an backpack, if you wanna go stealth, remove backpack. run low ammo and have space for food and drink, make your shots count, every single shot should be range finded by the mili dots in scope, or with range finder, and every kill should be max 1 bullet. be safe
I'm don't play as a sniper but rather a marksman I'd say. Being an Army vet I recognize most but not all of what you have described in this video. I wanted to go to sniper school but when I could hit every target on range except over 300 meters, I found out I was near sighted and not quite so patient, i did not qualify. I have high respect for the patience and steady hand of our overwatch snipers, saves alot of soldiers lives
I find it weird that as a DayZ sniper, I had a idea of a few of these concepts like skylining (I though it was called sillhouetting), but some of these I've applied without this calibre of knowledge. But this is an awesome video to brush up on.
I have no military training and am not as experienced in mil-shooters, so I found it suprising that I used some tactics from here myself as I found it logical. Shooting from behind dense tree terrain and not moving in open and bulged out spaces is a must for me. There are of course cases where it's unavoidable, and on more than one occasion it worked otherwise, but more often than not those tactics are lifesavers
This video earned you a new sub. Please keep making videos like this, perhaps ones where you share more examples on how to use real military tactics to play the game.
It’s crazy how I just found this video. It’s insightful. Not saying it didn’t ring any bells but i literally do all these things and nobody needed to explain this to me. It amazes me that they use Arma 2 as training in the suck .
Something that really works in DayZ, mostly for first person only servers (albeit it might not be doable in real life, especially with Ghillie), are guerilla tactics. I generally think about 3+ firing positions on a target I'm after, so after I take some shots I'll just retreat and flank wide to another firing position, using terrain / obstacles to conceal my movement.
its funny cause literally everything in this video i learnt many many years ago in other shooter games, i have 0 military background nor do i intend on joining the army
Very nice 👌🏼... I was certainly intrigued with sniper courses and enrolling back in 2002 when leaving school... My family and friends heavily talked me from doing so! With the current climax of the 911 disaster at the time, and onky being aged 16.. I'm gutted I turned towards other things and didn't go for it... just alike many other intensive careers, courses and/or hobbies.. I have lived my life don't get me wrong!!! But this and a few other things I feel truly gutted I never enlisted... Hat off to you old bean 🎩😉
Just started playing and it has been natural to do all these things,i have 0 military background but will say that I do tend to play FPS and games like this in a manner that required me to learn these tips in game. Now I know that I can also apply them IRL if need be,great video🖒
Also a good tip is to change position after each shot taken. While the position you found may be concealed at first, the shine of your scope, the flash of the gun when shooting or simply the sound of fire may give out your position, and even if it just gives out direction, it's best to give your enemy no idea where you're coming from, because once you're spotted it is much harder to hide again.
I'm certainly not a British army trained sniper but I do my fair share of hunting, amazing to see I'm using at least some of the techniques in game that a irl pro uses. Especially the last point it hides the muzzle flash, but takes alot of patience it's so tempting to get to the edge of cover for a better view.
One thing I think you should have covered is the 2 shot rule. For those who don't know what I mean, the idea is rather straightforward and self explanatory. Never fire more that 2 shots from a single position if you can help it. If you can't, employing the loophole tactic is paramount in survivability in combat. 1 shot, they know you're there but don't know where as generally the human brain is incapable of deciphering the origin point of a sound if it only happens once and it is quick (like a gunshot) but the 2nd shot gives enemies a very general direction of your location. More shots than this, and you risk giving the enemy your location and giving them the ability to move to appropriate cover or worse, them being able to locate you and shoot back. If you make a habit to move regularly in woodland or really any open area type engagements, you stand a much greater chance of survival and victory during a fight. But one thing that you have to remember is (in DAYZ at least) that foliage renders based on distance; Especially on console or lower performance PCs. A good rule of thumb on DAYZ is to stick to the wooded areas when engaging targets. Your ghillie suit may from your perspective blend perfectly with the terrain, but it loses its effectiveness as the distance increases. You could look like you would never be seen laying in an open field, but if the distance is great enough, than enemies could pick you out easily as you look like a very visible dot. On the urban side of things, your primary focus when engaging targets is using the loophole tactic and avoiding rooftops as much as possible, as even laying down, while a smaller target, risks skylining. Lastly, in terms of the loophole tactic, there's another piece of that tactic that you should ALWAYS consider when engaging targets in urban areas. It's called (by my memory at least) "deep back fire". Deep back fire is just another form of loophole shooting, but in cases where there are no small apertures to shoot through, it's imperative to keep yourself as deep in a room as you can while still being able to see and hit your target. Don't stick your rifle out a window, that's easy pickings for counter snipers. I have a lot more, but these things are what's most relevant in DAYZ.
As a suggestion on what should have been added in the video is that you want to use echoing to your advantage so your target or anyone protecting the target can’t find where you are firing from.
Tho I’m late, this is exactly the time of stealth video I was looking for on dayz. Not just sticking to treelines or watching towns from afar through binoculars, actually tactics used in real life scenarios. I really like this because of how difficult dayz is
Amazing video man. I’ve never seen a dayz video on tactics with real world training backing it up. Absolutely legendary, thank you so much for taking the time to do this. If you could do a sniper training series I would love it! I’m sure you could break it down into great detail. Thank you for your service, and god bless. Subbed! Edit: Hahahaha I just checked your vids, you already are doing this! These videos are amazing.
It kinda makes me feel good that I’ve had zero real world training or education, and I use almost every single one of these tactics. I learned it myself through trial and error. These definitely do work.
Do not think it was covered, by its also essential to note how the human eye works. Spotting movement is *always* easier while perfectly still. We developed spotting movement this way. Also , due to much larger, deadlier foe, we learned to spot unnatural shapes, ie an object which does not fit the natural environment.
I saw the backpack with the ghillie and I got jealous lol. Because we can't do that on console. There should be an extra thing that can drape over backpacks, so you can still wear one under the ghillie.
No military training my self. However 1000’s of hours on arma 2 dayz mod had pretty much taught my self this stuff. The last tip was probably one I knew about but didn’t really implement and was careless with .
Come from a family with a proud heritage of marksmanship and long range rifle building... Can confirm the above, aswell as in addition - from a dayz standpoint, If sniping at all, Use a weapon that can fit a silencer (ether improvised bottle supressor, or the weapon specific one) specifically when shooting at 300 + ranges, your target cant hear the shot at all, because the audible distance is 280m for any surpressed rifles except the mkII, and the sval/vss. Also, The way sound works in dayz is very similar to real life in that, the ebbs and rises of the terrain do often scew the audible cues recieved by the player hearing the shot... A further camoflage tip would be to properly prepare ones character for elongated gunfights, and the need to remain still once a firing position has been chosen makes it very important that food and water is max, that the gear players are wearing is in a functional state, as currently repairing an item wil force your character to be kneeling... Also in a camoflage line of thought, is the colour choices players make, as any bright colours will make you stick out, even when wearing ghillie items... Akin to the above is my personal recommendation that when shooting one should always use the shadows to dull appearence of gunsmoke and if wearing even just non military, green/tan/black/brown clothing this helps in preventing someone becoming aware of your position even when looking at you while you shoot... Hope these help.... Tundra is the way
@@KingAlex338 mate i love it. Passionate about sniping...(maybe too much) And absolutely ripping it on dayz... So far my death radius averages are pretty good. (Had to get used to the game as i bought it recently) but as time develops well see that radius stretch hopefully to the full range of a 308 rifle... Keep the tips coming... Im sure most of what you were taught tactically and strategy wise can easily be grafted over into dayz, it is a milsim based game at the core so makes sense it would...
When I was a kid there was a local drugs gang - really a group of soccer casuals who did drugs on the side, and they had it in for me. They would attack me on sight. So I learnt how to get from A to B without being seen. Memorised every back alley way across town. I had a 3 second rule. I wouldn't walk down a street unless I could escape it within 3 seconds cause that's how long you had if you were spotted. I planned my escape rout down every street I walked down for over 10 years. This paid dividends once when I was with a friend. He ended up as an unconscious body on a railway track and I ran free. Had had a fractured scull. I didn't have a scratch.
Well, the thing I noticed in Dayz is that at long distances the grass doesn't render in, so basically any sniper can see you. Anything on that besides staying the tree cover?
Oh man, Im so happy to say I do the last tip almost everytime, and I didnt know its a tip they teach in sniping school. I always thought to myself that is better to not beinf in the edge like an 1d*ot, but hiding even deeper, while you still have the same line of sight! Even in movies snipers set themselves in windows and they stick thsir snipers out. I always thought, they should just stay back and shoot from the darkness of the room.
I'm curious as a content creator myself. I use the third person view to provide context and atmosphere for the viewer, but personally, I enjoyed this game in particular in the first person view for realism. Your thoughts?
I know this is a ten month old video but please do a command fire segment with a group of snipers. I’ve been looking for a real sniper playing this game so I’m hoping you will do it. One of my favorite drills to do with one or more targets.
Found your channel and subbed.... I was also in the British Army 1990-2007... Special Observer RA.. keep the vids coming and you will soon get a huge sub base....
If dayz's grass didnt derender 50 meters of a player the game would be a differant game but anyone can see you because the terain derenders after 50 meters
