The true story of a quadriplegic aristocrat that hires a young man from the projects to be his assistant and watches their professional relationship become an unbreakable friendship. Subscribe to our second channel: tinyurl.com/Mo...
We have a quadriplegic in my family and the same caretaker for almost 10 years now. That woman is a Saint on earth and we consider her part of the family, since she's at every family function and holiday. She's so dedicated to her patient that we have to force her to take vacations sometimes; she doesn't trust anyone else to take care of my relative and worries about them on days off. It's truly amazing how compassionate some people can be. Live-in caretakers are just on another level. True angels.
Philippe Pozzo di Borgo was a Corsican French businessman who was the director of Pommery and was the owner of an inherited historic hôtel particulier in Paris used as a function hall. Wikipedia Born: 14 February 1951, Tunis, Tunisia Died: 1 June 2023, Marrakesh, Morocco This movie was beautiful. May he rest in peace
Driss's and Phillipe's friendship is absolutely heartwarming and wholesome.. Driss was with phillipe in both sad/difficult and happy moments.. He was the definition of what a true friend is all about.. The movie showed so many difficulties and problems that both driss and Philippe experienced and yet those two didn't lose their smiles.. Such a beautifully created movie
I just love how driss just treats him like a normal person, encouraging to do more things everyone else can do. That’s amazing. Often when people look disabled (such as having Down syndrome), they are automatically treated like a child and kind of ignored.
It simply pays more to ignore a disabled persons abilities....and not allow them to grow up.....no matter what the intellectual disabled is ..... People that care for them often treat them like property....
@@musiclover-xh9os The Intouchables, its a 2011 movie. Later hollywood copied it with kevin hart. But South Indian version has a different feel and emotional outputting scenes, which makes it different and awesome ❤️
My mom was an in home nurse for a quadriplegic man who was also non verbal, but was fully aware. He used a computer to communicate. After some time, my mom started bringing my siblings and I to visit him. We'd visit and go to the mall where he would buy us all ice cream. We started to call him Grandpa Jerry. This relationship lasted for decades until his passing a few years ago. I'm happy that we were able to bring joy to his life and that he brought joy to ours. Its a very difficult thing to be trapped inside your body like he was, but good relationships made life so much better.
In the remaining days of the life of my best friend, he was so weak and frail that I started to care for him. I'm not medically experienced or a caretaker, but he was my best friend and he didn't want anyone else to be with him but me... this story explained brought me back...on the unknowingly last day of his life.. I carried him out to his backyard and we sat and watched the stars at night and had a cigarette together for the last time, he gave me his glasses and said to me "I won't be needing these anymore" he passed away in his sleep that night in 2014, I still have those glasses to this day. He was of African decent and I am white, but no matter what life brings I'll never forget how we viewed each other....as brothers. This movie reminded me of our friendship and brother hood.
This was difficult for me to write, a blast of emotions were going through my head when commenting, the way I see it. That time in my life made me into the man I am today, I enlisted into the army and I'm going to go and find a brotherhood I've been searching for since my loss, thank you for reading what I had to say
As former caregiver myself it is always rewarding to see the smile that you bring to the people that need assistance, makes you feel like you are doing a great job. After getting this video randomly recommended on RU-vid I went to Netflix to see if I could find it. So happy when I did it is a beautiful story, loved seeing how these two guys were changing each other for the better. I recommend to everybody to give this a watch.
My high school French teacher let me borrow this film years ago. It really changed my perspective. I even was a caregiver for many years after graduation. Now I'm the director of maintenance for an assisted living facility. It was never easy, but it continues to change my life for the better.
This Brought back so many memories for me as a caregiver. I always put my heart in it. I was recently diagnosed with an illness. Watching this brought so much joy to me and tears to my eyes . GOD has a purpose in all of the pain we endure.
@@-w-4252 you probably wouldn’t want to play around with things like this. No one is exempt from going through life and battles that occur. I’m praying for you and asking GOD to save you. We are indeed in the last days….
@@wtfzealous Oh, I’m no longer one. That was a few years ago. The only thing I disliked about that job was my coworkers. And you are good dude. Have a great day!
Yoooo same, I haven’t watched this movie just watching the recap rn 😂 but I have seen his role in lupin and he did not miss so assuming he bodied this role.
I saw this movie a while back and I can't recommend it highly enough. The leads have great chemistry, and the story is really well put together. If you don't mind watching a movie in French then give this one a go.
Loved this movie. The conversation between Driss and Phillipe in the restaurant at night is my favourite scene. Just the two of them talking, sharing. They don´t care that one of them is disabled and the other is a young delinquent (Driss wasn´t on vacation for 6 months, he was in jail). They are just 2 human beings bonding, realizing they have much more similarities than differences. A lot of powerful and positive messages in the whole movie, but that particular scene always gets me.
This is a great film, hilarious and accurate portrait of the carer's experience - I'm a first time carer for a young woman with cerebral palsy who has good speech and head control but no motor control below the neck. She is independent and stubborn with a dark sense of humour, and we have a lot of great banter, but there's also times she's in pain due to her muscle tone which is made worse by anxiety, and I have to help calm her down. She also has to navigate the extra complexities in dating, and I appreciate this film showing disabled people having romantic lives and needs just like anyone else. I like that Driss is from Senegal, a lot of my colleagues are immigrants from a very wide varieties of backgrounds and cultures. So I really appreciated this film.
dude, from a simple caretaker for a paralyzed man, to a friendship between the two? that's just very cool man the movie kinda got me hyped up during the friendship stuff, especially at the ending
Love this movie, well acted, and heartwarming. Driss was kind, funny and took exceptional care of Philippe. Glad they are still friends today, we need more folks like these in this world 🌎
This is one of the most beautiful relationships in the world. Their bond isn't limited by any social norm. Even tho they were both dealt a bad hand, they made the best of their situations. What makes it even better is that they both made each other grow as a person when they themselves didn't even know what's best for them but knew what was best for each other. Heartbreaking 😢 😭 Edit: Heartwarming ❤
I saw this movie in my French class and it was absolutely beautiful, one thing about French movies is that they aren’t afraid to go the extra mile like American films, they show off everything appropriately and relative to the scene without being to vulgar or trying to get to sympathetic like western films, they just show off the scene making it feel more real
You know you just sound like your being racist against Americans for having a different method of filmmaking, you know what I love about the French, I love how they are so shit at wars, and how us British took all the prisoners we could and cut the fingers off so they couldn't fire their arrows 🤣🤣
@@candle_eatist I don't get it who was bad in this movie ? they showed him as a good guy was he bad in real life or something I don't know anything about the real story
This brought me back to watching this movie with my grandmother in 2012 when she came to visit me in the states and had brought the dvd with her. I remembered so well that we would always laugh when he first took the egg, because he called it a ‘kinder egg’. Every time she’s came to visit after that, she brought me a kinder eggs because of this. It’s weird for me to think that the last time I would see her was in 2015 after she brought me kinder eggs for a Christmas visit, and went back to her country only to end up in a coma and paralyzed less than a week later because she had forgotten to take one day of her daily medication. Never had the guts to watch this movie again because of it reminded me of her. But it’s now been a year since her passing, and I want to thank you for making this recap. It made me really happy and now I’m not so against the idea of rewatching it :).
@Sulayman ツ thank you so much for your reply. I won’t lie to you, it brought tears to my eyes haha. She really was the best grandma you could have- I was really lucky to have her til the end. And you’re right, sometimes I miss her a lot but all those memories I have of her makes it feel less sad that it actually is :) but your reply really meant a lot to me 💕 thank you
@Ale Valencia so sorry for your loss.. i lost my grandmother when i was pregnant... i regret for not being closer earlier. So sorry i wasnt be there during her last days (i was newlywed and pregnant, and live 800 kms away from her).
Also people do not consider that it’s easy for a person from a lower class to get a criminal record as they are constantly watched and considered to be criminal just by being
@@yseson_ True, got carded for no reason many times... every time they start with asking about my race and then they start doing their deep search for dirt on their car Laptop
I didn’t know this was a real story until 14:04 when the narrator said “The real Philippe lives in Morocco”. At that point, it all came to me and I teared up! What an amazing story! The man who took care of Philippe is literally an angel! ❤️ 😭
This was a touching story. To care for someone who is paralyzed takes compassion, creativity, humor, lots of physical energy, strength and cooperation from the patient. These two were blessed to develop trust and a true loving relationship. It is a humbling experience for both parties.
@@tolvajtamas8567 Thank you so much. By the way I watched the video again and they mentioned the movie name at the starting of the video. "THE INTOUCHABLES".
My mother had the same fun relationship with the lady she used to take care of who had Parkinsons. Long story short, the lady's family only came around to ask for money and once they knew she had a decent caretaker they stopped contacting her and didn't check on her for nearly two years. My mom became the beneficiary for everything the lady had because she felt her family didn't deserve it and she had no children anyway. She said her family had gotten enough money out of her anyway. So we went from homeless to more than comfortable thanks the this kind lady who truly appreciated my mother. We are still so upset that she passed so soon. But we are grateful for what this lady had given us and the time we had with her. Sometimes blood is not thicker than water.
"The actual saying is “the blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb”. The meaning of this saying is actually the opposite of the way we use it." I adore that phrase
Same story line with Kevin Hart's "The Upside". Couldn't resist shedding some drops of tears when I saw the movie in 2018. Truly, the essence of man is defined by the many phases of struggles and transformations he passes through.
Beautiful recap, as always! 💜 What’s most beautiful about it is that he treats him with so much dignity and in return is treated with respect, something they both deserve but don’t get enough of.
I would like to meet the real Phillipe. I’m a caretaker & it brings tears to my eyes seeing the love he has for his client. It’s a hard road because the more you get to know them.. the more you wish they could live a normal life & you could just be friends instead of being their caretaker. I can’t think of many people who deserve to be paralyzed & bound to a wheelchair.. if only we lived in a perfect world. One good thing came out of his situation, meeting a man who would show him the care & love he needed
@@fruzsimih7214 Yeah I heard something about that sometime after posting this comment.. he had a great heart and I hope if something exists beyond us that he lives a great afterlife for what he's done here
This movie has also been acted by Kevin Hart and it's called ”the upside" which was based in NY..... They didn't disclose any info on the real characters but I'm now curious about the real characters and how their relationship has grown over the years..... This story is just emotionally touching as it depicts the vulnerability a person could encounter at any given time!! Much love to everyone facing any kind of hardship❣️
Best movie I’ve seen and I’ve seen a lot… this movie really isn’t complete without the music though, if anybody found this video intriguing I would really recommend watching the whole movie, bring the tissues and just enjoy!!!
Man, it's fun to see a character like that. Like, in a situation where a lesser person would think of bleeding this old man dry -- and indeed, he takes the luxuries readily -- he's just the kind of person who thinks of others first. He sees "somebody not enjoying life" as a problem and wants to fix it.
@@Yanzdorloph yes they are both Mediterranean peoples, albeit some large differences, but neither demographic aren't Sub-Saharan looking either. Not for the most part, at least until the US government decided to destabilize North Africa, ousting Gaddafi
Based on Philip and Driss, compare and explain how their living conditions differ and in what way this can affect their health and quality of life, positively and negatively.
These are persons with whom I would love to work ..this story helps me to realize that they're still good persons out there who knows how to treat their workers with love n respect ..I've worked with a number of elderly persons and some of them I would never worked with them again if I have to bcuz of the way they behaved and there were some if they call me back to work right now I simply just wouldn't hesitate.. They're some great real people who knows the value of being respectful to those taking care of them n in situations like this to gain respect we first have to show respect
i have seen this movie too many times but its still worth every minute, so take your chance of experiencing it for the first time like it should: watching the whole 2 hours or so of it.
stories about the caretaker living in luxury is maybe rare, however people do this daily in real life for little pay and the family members look down at them with no respect. many caregiver do it for love and respect to the individual who is in the mind of friends and family no longer THE PERSON WHO they knew
Same here ..what make my deceased grandpa sad is that almost all his childrens doesnt care him....he wqs suffering on his bed all alone...i still young that time...if only i was an adult..
What a wonderful selection. I’m glad when a film like this based on true events is included in channels like yours. There’s so much film to enjoy and these down to earth stories can often be overlooked for their more flashy, dramatic counterparts. But this tale contained so much heart and was truly charming. Made me smile.
If you liked this movie, i stromgly recomment The Upside with Kevin Hart. Im not entirely certain but u think the idea for The Upside actually came from this movie, theyre very similar
This has been remade in many languages in Hollywood it starred Kevin hart. Even in my mother tongue telugu too it was remade with the name "oopiri" meaning breath.
Holy Sh*t! I had no idea there was another movie about this true story other than "The Upside". I love watching through the recap and seeing all the similarities this has with the version with kevin hart and Bryan cranston. This channel has entertained me so much during my 15 min breaks and morning toilet time where I just sit and look through my phone haha
I was a caregiver to many, elderly and my mom. It's the smiles and the glow in their eyes when you are in their presence that I still remember. And my heart is forever changed by them. Love you, mom and many others I've cared for.
This is someone looking at another human and seeing greatness in them and despite his rudeness and careless exterior , there is someone magnificent there ! Love this movie
As a man and having to do this for my dad since I was 14 a lot of this is relatable aside from the fiction of the actual movie God will bless those who go out of there way to help others who CANT do for themselves
8 minutes in I went straight to Netflix and a couple hours later I’m back here on the verge on tears finishing this recap as if I didn’t just watch it in full❤️
My mum died in my arms of cancer this reminds me of the last few months I had with my mother 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢never used to get along but I came home to look after her before she died and we grew so close’ I remember my mum looking at me and smiled before she died…..mum I miss you so much I think of you every day you have 7grandkids and im married now❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
This is a beautiful movie, very close to my heart. I was raised by my aunt whom was paralysed and always in bed due to muscular dystrophy. From the age of 2 I slept with her and when I was old enough I started to help her and take care of her too. Of course I didnt do the private stuff as I'm a male, but I did feed her, turn her in bed etc etc. I miss her a lot everyday, this movie just made me tear up about it. I hope where ever she is, that she's proud of me.
