Belly Landing at 5:30
On the 18th July 2006 a rookie pilot and his navigator landed their stricken F-111 on its belly after losing a wheel on takeoff. Pilot Flying Officer Peter Komar (29) and navigator Flight Lieutenant Luke Warner (32) made the emergency landing at the RAAF Amberley Base west of Brisbane, ending a tense three hour midair emergency.
Narrated by Sam Worthington.

I flew in EF111s (radar jammers)in U.K. as a flight surgeon in the WISO position. Flew over Iraq just after the Desert Storm war. It was the. Rolls Royce aircraft of planes. Replaced in the US by the navy Four man E6B . The terrain following radar was phenomenal. The crew did a fabulous job in landing this plane by catching the cable stretched across the runway! At RAF Upper Heyford England a similar incident in about 1990-1991 timeframe had a similar problem with a front gear collapse. The end result was the same thankfully!

Seeing the pilot jump out after landing really gives perspective on how large this aircraft is. God bless these Australian warriors. They have always been friends and allies to the USA.

worked F111D's for 5 years. As a avionics system specialist. I got a ride in one for winning a award. NCO of the Quarter. I got a whole new respect for the jet once i got a ride in it. It was one of the highlights of my U.S Air Force career .

On this day, Steve Clarke's authoritative mustache saved the lives of two men. A monument should be built. A mustache monument. A mustamonument.

I'm laughing at all the comments in this video - 'why didn't they do this' 'why didn't they do that' 'they should have done this'.............what you mean aside from perfectly landing a stricken jet with no casualties and saving the jet on top of it???? No please tell me youtube commentors - how in your infinite wisdom could they improve of saving both the crew and the jet??????

I appreciate them not saying it's a US aircraft

For anyone interested, part of the deal of buying the F111 from the USA was being forbidden to sell them on. So some are gate guards, a few in museums and, wait for it…. The rest are buried at the local Toowoomba rubbish tip.

Aussie crew of an F-111 came to Memphis Naval Air Station Airshow with the Blue Angels. Very personable guys showing us their aircraft and talking about their homeland. A great ally we are fortunate to have.

Absolutely the coolest thing I've ever seen as an emergency landing of a fighter jet. The two young lads are going to have the best of bragging rights forever! Who needs wheels - more fun to do a belly glide! I've got to see this again!

I was stationed at Clark AB in the Mid 80's. Aussies used to bring their 111's and Mirages in for Cope Thunder exercises. Damn, that 111 was a serious machine. Loud and fast, just badass!!

That young pilot is going places. He’s an asset his bosses should be proud of.

I've never served but my parents were both RAAFies and I've worked in Defence for 15 years and that was spectacular. Hats off to you gents. Well played.

The emergency landing was nice and all that, but the Squadron Leader’s “Robin Olds” mustache is the best part of the video! 😂

I'm not a pilot, just a retired firefighter in the States, but I will say this to our Australian brothers...you did a fine job of maintaining your calm in what had to be a stressful situation. Well done!

There was a 17 yo Maggie in the USA solo pilot who was by herself just starting her solo had her right landing gear falling off on take off. ATC, Instructor pilot helped her down safely. Minor damage to aircraft after her plane shortly after landing dug into the runway and off to the right and she walked away safely! This is a pretty amazing emergency landing and it is great to see it went well!!

I've watched this landing more times than I can count and I'm still impressed with it today as I was the first time. The guys did all the right things to bring that bird in for a safe landing with all things considered. Nice job guys, it's said, any landing you walk away from is a good landing. Thanks for sharing, I enjoyed it, Mates.
