REAL UNDERSTANDING | The Word Exposed with Cardinal Tagle (July 30, 2023)
We are on the 17th Sunday in Ordinary Time. In today's Gospel, Jesus likens God's kingdom to a buried treasure, a merchant of fine pearls, and a net thrown into the sea. Three additional parables from St. Matthew.
The first two parables teach us of the value of God's kingdom. The buried treasure inspired the one who found it to sell all he had in order to buy the field where the treasure was hidden. The merchant of fine pearls did the same. He sold all he had so he could buy a valuable pearl.
The last parable reminds us that God's kingdom collects fish of every kind. And only in the end of time would the bad ones be separated from the good friends.
Today's parables continued the theme of the gospel from the last two Sundays. How will we respond to God's word, the buried treasure and pearl of great prize? Will we be one of the good fish? Let us pray for true understanding.
