"I wake up at 7:00, get to work at 9:30, have a coffee break at 10:15, have another break at 11:00, have hour lunch, next thing is having diner at 5:00." Didn't tell people what time she quit for the day, had to be before 5. It's looks to me like you actually did 3 1/2 hours of any real work, if one would call it that.

Cafes that i like in seattle are Cafe Hagen (has the best food), wunderground, broadcast cafe (cacio de pepe bagel is great w/cream cheese), magic matcha, and aroom

Vivace and Monorail are my favorite coffee shops! I usually order a cappuccino or latte, and they're so good :)

Funny , here in silicon valley i don't recall ever leaving exactly at 5pm more like 7:30 ish, its not an 8 hour job.

Ended up laughing a bit in the end because this video made me hungry not wanting to work! 80% was tastey food not programming :D

How do they seem to make every apartment building in Seattle cut from the same exact plans? My place has the same flooring, double stack in the bathroom, and big dog walk on the roof! Just recently stumbled upon the dog washing station which after probably fairly common as well? (I need a dog... 🐶). Also, do you take the bus to work? Because interestingly enough it takes me about 15 min to get to that building downtown if I take the bus since the bridge been broken... Much longer if i need a car which is kinda silly but gives me a reason besides global warming to utilize mass transit and help the planet which is cool. Forced conscious climate crusading considered another featured amenity perhaps? ¯⁠\⁠_⁠(⁠ツ⁠)⁠_⁠/⁠¯ (Until it starts to snow like crazy, which it feels like is definitely on it's way to Seattle area as I write this! 🥶)

looks like she wanted to make a "nice looking video" and I doubt this is realistic. Dunno about amazon SEs - I am a DBA in a well known fortune 50 company.....I am up an done with my daily workout by 8 am.....then check the overnight tasks with offshore, resolve any immediate issues. have breakfast at 8.30 Am, drive to office at 9 am. 9.30 Am - 2 hours reading overnight email and putting everything in order. After that, either work on specific issues/projects or read up new database products and technology. Even if there is no actual work on some days, you have to keep learning (read read read a LOT, constantly) to be worth anything. And yeah, I have lunch for about 30 minutes - ON MY DESK. My company is kind enough to provide me lunch in the office twice a week - nothing fancy, sometimes just fried chicken (which I love) or soups. Mostly done by 7 pm, though sometimes I keep reading till 10 pm. Obviously there are nights when I work up to 2 AM (because offshore needs some expertise/help) and even start at 7 AM non-stop for hours (I can work form home whenever I want). But those days are not the rule. I am surprised this person did not have anything to do with offshore teams....its pretty much a given that you would on most days have early morning or late night interactions with offshore - just 15-20 minutes mostly, but its there. And yes, I do minor tasks and (sometimes lot of) reading on weekends too. No, software people are not an entitled bunch - lot of non-software people will hate how much constant learning goes into it. I used to hate it once - but once you have mastered one thing, it becomes a habit and almost an obsession.

So your pure working periods are: 9:30 to 12:15 say 3 hours, then 1:30 to 5:00 say 4 hours, that's an easy 7 hr day, ending at 5pm, with a walk break, and a lunch break, and an uneventful post lunch period till dinner. That's luxury compare to my recent place, never left at 5, likely 6:30 or 7, and with breaks similar yours, but at least 2 meetings, so a normal day like 8 pure work hours plus 1 meeting hour, still due to pressure and workload always felt behind schedules. Now thinking may be 8-6 as my new normal specially when working from home. 8-6 is a long day, but that's life for a s/w developer.

They don't do remote? That's odd, but sometimes working in an office is cool too

Nice content overall even though I can't comprehend how come the seattle offices doesn't have a chef, or at least free snacks and free drinks. I've watched day of life from a spotify employee and I was blown away by all the treats they have at their offices.
