Realistic Flavoradio A Great tiny AM/FM Radio From The End Of The "Transistor Radio" Era.

I've owned this tiny AM/FM radio for ages. I bought it to listen to the news while fishing on my wooden 12 foot flat bottomed boat. The boat sank one spring due to termites, but the radio survived! I kept it around and later used it in my Van camper and then as a radio to listen to when working on the farm.
I figured it was worthless, but it turns out these are quite the little radio!

I bought an AM only Realistic Flavoradio with money I got for my 7th birthday back in 1981. I took the radio to school, daycare, listened to distant AM stations under the covers at night, etc. I wish I had still the radio.

My first radio was a Hong Kong made 7 transistor model. AM only of course and yes, I remember listening to those distant stations every night in bed. Those were the days. The radio is long gone, but the memories last a lifetime.

Even when Radio Shack started to suck and became a glorified cell phone store it was still good to have one for various electronic project parts. I used to go in there and browse around without knowing what I really wanted and figure it out on the spot, can't do that with online stores.

A small radio like this saved me during hurricane sandy. No power or cable for 14 days. Gave me something to listen to, music and news etc. mine was that little Sony you showed in the video. I will never get rid of it. It’s in my bug out bag

Many years ago I bought a box of sundries at an auction for two dollars. In amongst the other stuff was a National AM transistor radio. Made in Japan. Takes two AA cells. It has "Solid State" on the front. I would later find it was made in 1965 or 1966. They came in both red and black. Mine is black. It still works great. I keep it in the kitchen, where I can easily give it a bit of use.

A blast from the past. Love it. Back in the early days my parents would go to the grocery store, dad and I would take our battery club cards and get a battery at radio shack for my little radio. My radio seemed to chewed through the battery fast. But they were not the best batteries and maybe at that age, my expectations were to high. That being said it was awesome being able to have music and news anywhere I wanted. Funny how portable radios at one point grew into great big boom boxes. LOL.

Small analog transistor radios are great. I like analogue radio, I don't like digital stuff. I also prefer the larger models. And vintage of course, robust and built to last. Some I have are 40 to 50 years old, battery powered and still playing great. Stuff you buy nowadays will last 5 years if you're lucky. Your little realistic is proof, at least 35 years old, incredible and still playing. I bet a new radio you buy now won't make it to 7 years. It's all mini smd on the circuit board, fragile and cheaply made. Buy a 70s-80s model, fix it up if necessary and it will last longer I believe. Thanks for this video, best regards, greetings from the Netherlands. PS I don't see a CB antenna on your truck...? ;-)
