Hello! I like apartment #4. I like the green tile. If you need more closet space perhaps you can get an armoire. Many landlords don't do a thorough cleaning until after you commit because there's no sense in deep cleaning when you're going to have heavy foot traffic for weeks on end due to viewings. If I TRULY love the space, it's easy enough to hire a maid service for a few hours to deep clean before moving in.
@nk.medani

Jah & Jahes love. I really liked Apartment #4 as well. I LOVE brick and hardwood floors. And, I really liked the good sunlight and the fact that there was a tub in the bathroom. I didn't like the fact that it was a walkup. The stairs were narrow and I'm concerned about slipping. Please keep looking and show us what you find. I like Zillow, Renthop and Streeteasy, but it hasn't been easy to find places. I have to get a good paying job. The Upper East Side even though being known as a wealthy area actually has some of the nicer apartments at a better price than some other areas. It may not be as hip as the East Village and parts of Brooklyn as far as bars and restaurants, but has some good apartments. It also is quieter than those other areas. Maybe not the best though if you are a hipster trendy party person.

@@nk.medaniThis may sound dumb, but my hobby in my spare time is going to indie rock shows most of which are in Williamsburg / Bushwick and the East Village / LES. So for me personally the UES is just too far away from where I like to hang out. Too long a ride on the subway or Uber after they are over. So even though it has some nice places wouldn’t work for my lifestyle.

Have you tried (or researched) getting in a housing lottery? I'm not sure of the specifics, but I've seen people on youtube get amazing apartments for much lower prices.

Owners and building managers DO NOT care in fixing or cleaning the apartments because of Supply and demand. They know that people want to live in NY because of the hype etc so they are deemed to be desperate for these apartments no matter how they look.

Hello,my daughter faced the same problems in her apartment search as well. The current apartment in Flatbush Brooklyn where she thought she was going to stay was going I up in price with a very leaking ceiling. 3000.00 with one closet as well , 4th floor walk up and management that didn’t care. So my daughter has her younger sister living in Bayonne,New Jersey with the rent lower and the apartments much nicer. My daughter during a visit saw New Jersey City which is just 10 minutes away from NYC by ferry or 15 by Path train. Take a visit in New Jersey City, Brand new apartment have open up with amenities and outdoor spaces. Search New Jersey apartments listings .My daughter found a beautiful I bedroom apartment with lots of closets, big bedroom and commute to NYC to her liking.she is moving next week and rent is 2400.00.

NYC landlords have so much audacity. They will ask for money then show you a run down dirty apartment and expect you to jump with glee. It's so frustrating that they don't update appliances or do the least, clean before showing, because they know that there are people who will rent anyway. It's just ridiculous.

Keep looking towards end of February will open new apartments listings. There are also apartments that are rentable from tenants themselves who moved before their lease finish they look for people to rent their apartment until then and offer the option for you to takeover afterwords . Normally those options are great for travelers who settle for a few months here and then they are gone to their next destination. It can give you an insight to new neighborhoods that normally don’t have a lot of inventory.

Be careful because some of the landlords will show you the worst apartments, expect for you to be desperate and rent it😊 be very careful there are many many slumlords in all areas and thieves camouflaging as real estate agents and you could rent in Queens maybe Long Island City, Sunnyside wood side areas all these places, neighborhoods, have nice apartments they have two costcos, malls everything; queens is only a few minutes away from city depending on areas; I means do not accept low standard housing from anyone 😊 I mean add up the rent on a yearly basis you will see all the money that wasted in these middle class neighborhoods that offer low I mean low standard housing😊

My first apartments living alone were on the UES. I think if you really care about quickly renting open space, a landlord should make the apartment as attractive as possible. I say that having once being a landlord. So I agree with you thinking unkempt is a turnoff.

As a native New Yorker born and raised in Manhattan I am curious why you continue to avoid searching for apartments in HARLEM, WASHINGTON/HUDSON HEIGHTS, and INWOOD. These neighborhoods are also in the borough of Manhattan, literally a 20-30 minute subway ride from the downtown Manhattan locations you like to frequent. In any neighborhood your going to find the GOOD, BAD, and UGLY areas; just look in the GOOD areas of the above neighborhoods; and YES, there are apartments available in your price range that are larger in size, with elevators and laundry rooms in the buildings. You choices seem to be Apartment Shopping UPTOWN, UPTOWN; getting a Roommate; staying in your Current Apartment; or Increasing your Budget--Apartment Shopping in the other boroughs of BROOKLYN, QUEENS, The BRONX and STATEN ISLAND isn’t really an option for you right now because transportation in and out of these boroughs can sometimes be complicated and confusing due to many factors, but it will definitely take you more than 20-30 minutes to get to any Manhattan location!!!!

I did not like the green tile in apt.#4. You could tell that they just didn't want to put in the money to replace that part. It looked very dated. Loved the brick, nice size living room and bedroom. The upper East side IS iconic, but the landlords/management are not. They don't really care.

@01:54: It’s called a *medicine cabinet.* It must be a generational thing. Seldom if ever do I see influencers of Millennial or Gen Z age who know the proper term for the shelved, mirrored storage area above the bathroom sink. In really old homes there’s often a slot in the rear wall of the medicine cabinet in which to dispose of used razor blades. Where they go is anybody’s guess. Homes of that age also usually have a door in an outer wall for the milkman to leave milk, butter, or cream and a receptacle built into the kitchen wall for matches.

Sinful the price of rent in NYC.. i don't give a fk about a park down the street or views of the dirty water or a bunch of trees ( although we need our trees) how the hell does any of those things equate to tiny chopped up apartments where you can literally hold your arms out in the middle of the room and touch all corners of the apartment and i won't even mention the tiny closet that only fits 6 hangers .there's a agenda to get rid of low income and what's considered middle class ppl from out of NYC. The garbage ppl will create and try to convince you its more than what your eyes are looking at. There needs to be a law to protect renters from having to settle for mediocre unkempt old modelled buildings with 1990s frigidaire and stoves , radiators that whistle and rodents for $ 3,000 a month
@LMR2326
@LMR2326 8 месяцев назад
Wow! What you get for $2500 isn’t a lot now a days. I was born and raised in washington heights (uptown) in a spacious 4 bedroom and my parents paid $800 at the time. I would say look into that neighborhood but it can be a little culture shock for out of towners. The food, music, people, culture are all amazing but it can be loud and certain areas do have higher crime but its typically safe.
@nk.medani
@nk.medani 8 месяцев назад
Hi! Thanks for sharing this! It’s amazing to hear that your upbringing offered this lower priced rent for your parents/fam to grow up in! Truly wish those prices still existed. Do you have areas you would typically avoid/recommend in Washington heights?
@LMR2326
@LMR2326 8 месяцев назад
@@nk.medani here is my very long winded answer 😂 its really hard to say in Washington Heights since it varies a lot and it is big so you have plenty of options. It also varies street to street. Growing up there I know which streets to avoid. For someone who isnt from NYC like yourself, i would say Fort Tryon area is wonderful! I went to elementary school there and its quiet, has a beautiful park (fort tryon park), apartments can be spacious. FYI most of the buildings are pre-war and there arent that many stores around. Also i find that in this neighborhood the “hispanic culture” isnt there but thats not a deal breaker for many people but for others they do want that experience. There is also only one train which is the A train in that area BUT! The A goes express after a certain stop. Not to give a lot of detail, I personally grew up in St. Nicholas avenue (1 train line) which is a very loud yet full of culture avenue! Its crowded. I never felt unsafe but there were certain areas along this avenue that werent so good. I have also lived on Dyckman street which is fun but I would avoid. Its very loud in the summer because of party goers, cars, fights etc. I would suggest looking into apartments near inwood hill park! Quiet neighborhood, great park, lots of families and people around your age. But there is only 1 line which is the A line. You can walk to the 1 line but meh. Rent in these areas MIGHT be slightly cheaper, slightly bigger apartments. I know these neighborhoods as of recent its been a big deal that its being “gentrified” so rent should be going up even more! From what you’re looking for not sure if these types of neighborhood interest you BUT the rent should be slightly cheaper if you take a look around. I would also suggest taking a stroll during the daytime and see the feel that you get of the neighborhood. You will then see what I mean about “it varies from street to street and avenue to avenue” 😅 you will definitely get a different vibe than midtown or UES but nonetheless still great neighborhoods to explore and not be scared of! Oh and side note! Astoria, Queens is also super great, quiet, and yummy delicious foods and beautiful park! I hope this helps!

gonna be blunt with you as someone living in nyc. your budget is bottom barrel for a studio in manhattan, let alone a one bed. UES is all old money and prewar style apartments. anything decent is running 3-4k. i was in your shoes insisting on manhattan when i moved here years ago, and even then 2500 was rough. 2500 will get you something nice in astoria, or many parts of brooklyn. sorry but the constant disappointment of your search tells you it would be best to extend your horizons, you can't afford what you want in these areas.
