This is such a kickass and thorough solution to one of those things that ALWAYS bugs me (when I can tell there is ADR but it doesn't match well) - but I've never been able to tell what was really wrong with it thus never knowing what to do about it. Great vid, gents :)

Cheers Adam! This topic was something where we knew of the issue, but not the solution. I think Mark explains it so well, it almost feels like cheating! It makes you wonder what other sound secrets there are in the industry that don't quite filter down to the indie/zero-budget/videography level.

I think you can get better stereo results if you pan one track left and then duplicate and pan the other right but load another of the stairwell transients as an IR.

great way to get better ADR audio. To improve the IRs, simply pop a balloon instead of clapping (carefull with balancing your levels and also protect your ears)

You need a deep clap to get the best results, a slate clap would give you a bright clap.

Hi, saw you are using audition, i have a question, you can set your edit section on grid made by frames and also, can you navigate with a one frame nudge right and left on the time line? Like people do on protools with + and - of numpad

@TheFilmLook

We use a Rode NTG3 for pretty much all production sound as well as recording foley. Super low noise, which is great for foley!
@TheFilmLook
@TheFilmLook 4 года назад
For the $100-$200 range, trying look into some budget condenser microphones (for recording foley, at least). We use a BM-800 for recording the podcast and it's surprising how clear it sounds.

Method still applies. Record a bunch of impulse responses at the EXT location, grab some atmos of the location (traffic noise, wind, trees creaking, etc. etc.) and use this technique.

I am not good wit haudio editing. I have never really gotten into it. When I started out when I was 13-14 years old, it was enough for me with video and to learn Premiere Pro myself (and from RU-vid videos). In the past years, I have began learning color grading. For audio, I have never taken the time. I like to do Foley sounds, but I just add them on the timeline in Premiere Pro without messing around with settings. Audition looks so advanced, but I have used it a bit before. So sound design is my weakest point and I a minterested to learn a bit more about it. On the Horror short film, a friend of mine does the audio in Audition. He is interested in sound aswell, so maybe it's a bit easier. I try to get as many of the Foley sounds on location as possible. Things like foot steps in a big hall, if I don't have the possibility to go back there I try to find a similar place with the same amont of reverb. Great video! I learned a lot today :-)
@TheFilmLook
@TheFilmLook 4 года назад
Yes there is a lot of different areas of filmmaking, it's nearly impossible to know how to do them all. Having knowledge and little experience in each area will make you a really filmmaker, plus you can find out what you really like doing as a filmmaker.

@@TheFilmLook How do you determine the 'Room Size' on Convolution Reverb when its outside?
@TheFilmLook
@TheFilmLook 4 года назад
As far as I'm aware, the room size slider just chokes the reverb decay as you bring it down to zero (I think! Please correct me if I'm wrong). I would say it's a matter of personal taste and what you think sounds "right". Find a parameter which you think will fool an audience. A good way to see if you are getting the right amount is to listen to the scratch audio and see how much it reverberates in the location. Try to match it.
@mitschcrafter6766
@mitschcrafter6766 3 года назад
could you technically also remove reverb that way?

Yeah definitely, the de-reverb tool in audition is really powerful! It's included in Premiere Pro now as well.

It sounds ‘right heavy’ because one channel is earlier than the other. So much misinformation by the ‘audio guru’ guy. Appalling. In this particular instance btw, it would’ve been possible to use the on location audio, if you had a lav on. Just match reverb time by ear. I’d say don’t do the ‘haas effect’ non sense. It’s useless for film mostly.
