I was havig nightmares and night terrors and I just happened upon this video. I’m a novice / just for fun artist, but really, I watched the whole video, I feel okay now to go to sleep. The music combined with your painting was lovely and just what I needed. Not to say “you’re boring enough to put anybody to sleep” LOL I mean it was comforting and breathtangly beautiful how subtly you blended the colors, and it made me think “If I ever get a chance to be God and create a world, I’ll ask her to paint the flowers for us.” - and then I thought “maybe if people are honestly really still doing this kind of thing the world can’t possibly be as bad off as I think it is.” And THAT is what is allowing me to go to sleep. Thanks much!

I am a baby beginning watercolor wannabe, and your work and videos teach me so much every time I view them. I think I will try to do this rose...many tries, with no expectation beyond learning. 💕 (I am rehabbing from a back injury and have to spend a lot of time on an inversion therapy machine. Thank you for your story on how art has helped you in recovering and how it has given you peace and comfort. I am glad my paintings have inspired you and try painting. Hi Nainee, thank you so much😍thank you for watching my videos and subscribing. You are absolutely right, paper plays a huge role in painting, not everything may always come out the same if you use a different paper. I paint on Arches watercolor papers, hot pressed or cold pressed, sometimes rough...mostly on 140lb. This painting was on Arches cold pressed 140lb. For example I love painting seascapes or night scenes where I paint layers after layers and I just keep adding paint. I can do this so easily on Arches Hot pressed watercolor papers but when I used Fabriano Hot Pressed it wasn't the same, Fabriano wasn't absorbing all the water.. the water/paint were just sitting on top of the paper. I was getting frustrated with my painting because the water and paint were not cooperating with the paper. Fabriano is a good paper don't get me wrong, it's just not meant for larger washes, it's good for smaller things, one object type paintings where you don't need to use much water. My experience with Arches has always been great so I recommend this paper.🌺🌹🤗

Hi, I don't use these brushes anymore, I use now "Black Velvet" by Silver Brush, "Versatil" by Escoda and "VelvetTouch" by princeton but in this older video I was using: Round brushes: Round 1 (Utrecht), Quill 0 (Raphael), Angular 1/2 (Utrecht)

Thank you for beautiful rose painting with music. Delicate pink and yellow rose's are known to me as "Peace" roses. (There are some other names for similar varieties now) That's what my first living rose plant was, many years ago. I would thereafter plant one wherever I lived. You painted it just right!

I am a portrait painter in oils. My wife has always wanted me to do flowers and I didn't want to. THIS, however, using watercolor instead of oils, is a wonderful alternative; it's faster in its execution and as realistic as I like to paint my portraits. Thank you for these videos! I saw the photo of the rose at the beginning, however, as an observer, I'd like to see the photo alongside of your work so I can see how you're interpreting each element. Wonderful work!! I don't have any Holbien watercolors, but I do have Daniel Smith. Wouldn't they work the same? I do know that the same name of colors dont always run the same in other brands, but are very similar. It is okay to use my Daniel Smith as a substitute for your Holdien? Thank you so much for your answer, and thank you for this gorgeous painting you've shared with everyone. I've enjoyed watching your tutorial very much! I also enjoy all of your paintings.Looking forward to watching more of your tutorial. I've wondered if you've ever painted a peony? They are such an exquisite flower, & I've seen so many beautiful paintings of them I really want to try them. I love how so many artist have been doing very large paintings of flowers. It's a trend I absolutely love! Many have painted them on a living, bedroom, or bathroom wall. I just love the sizes of them, you can get lost in the beauty of the flower. Again thank you for this lesson on painting a rose. I. So looking forward in trying it. I'll try to post it on you page if I'm able to, but only if it's recognizable as a rose! 😉💖

Hi Gail🌸☺️When following my tutorials or classes you definitely don't need to have the same watercolors, I love Holbein but paints are a personal preference. Holbein's watercolors are very vibrant and easy to control because they don't add Ox gall to their paints. I never painted with Daniel Smith before but from what I hear they are granulated and made from minerals mostly. Don't know much about them but yes, companies name watercolor pigments in similar ways, but DS's Burnt Sienna will never look the same as Holbein's Burnt Sienna. All companies create their watercolors using their own secret ingredients, different binders and fillers. You can definitely find similar colors to match what i used in this video and just use whichever colors you want. After the first part with the quin red and yellow ochre, when you switch to the 'Round #1' brush and start adding the heavier quin. red, are you doing wet into wet or are you doing wet into dry? I wasn't sure if I missed a skip edit because I didn't notice you adding water to the petal at that point before working the edges of the pedals with the round one and the color blends in smoothly without hard edges inside the pedal. Great painting! You have the best rose watercolor paintings on RU-vid!

Until recently I never gave watercolor much credit - I never looked around or really paid attention to the artwork itself - the artwork right in front of me every day. Of course, I know differently now, with the hundreds of years of art, deco, illustration and more that have been made worldwide. It is NOT a child's medium, but a true artist's. I loved watching you paint this delicate rose and I am amazed at the detail and color. A single rose - a piece of art by itself! I will be painting this too - many times I am sure, as I follow my quest to learning this art form. I love your work, Maria!

I tried 3 times I'm just in tears my glasses need adjusting I was putting laundry in the overhead dryer and it's swing back and smack me in the face and flatten out my glasses across my head and I've been trying to straighten them out since thus I can't see for you know what also I found out in my drawing I'd grabbed the wrong pencil and it was a dark charcoal one instead of my light HB I believe it is that I use for drawing you can barely see it and barely have to erase it at all so it just was frustrating I'll try it again just need a break go back to doing some Zentangle for a bit and losing myself up I love your work I absolutely think that's Beauty just Beauty and itself you captured the essence of that Rose you've got a skill that is beyond whatever I've seen in reality and I've been here a lot of years XOXO Onna Addis

Hi Hiya, if you can't find it then maybe just regular watercolor white. See gouache is basically an opaque watercolor, so whichever watercolor white you find that's the most opaque would do :) thank you so much darling!🌺🌹🤗
