Victoria doesn't even need to talk, her facial expressions speak volumes Also, how do you get the idea to make your dog a therapy dog just because it's cute and then not research what a therapy dog does or how it behaves or read up the rules before you go to the test

I'm a dog trainer (basic obedience), and I've worked with some dogs who would be AWESOME therapy dogs and other dogs, who while great dogs, are just not cut out for that kind of work. It all depends on the individual dog's temperament and personality.

@@GodOfPlague Basically, a service dog assists its owner (seeing-eye, diabetes-detection), that kind of thing. A therapy dog's job is usually going into hospitals, schools, nursing homes, etc., to provide emotional support and to cheer people up. For a therapy dog or cat, you're looking for a well-mannered/trained animal who also really enjoys people and wants to please them.

Our dog is spoiled but I don’t think she knows she’s spoiled, like most of our spoiling is simply fancier commodities for her, for example she’s a picky eater so we’ve tried like 7 different types of dog food and brands to find out what she’ll eat, we’ve given her our old pillows and small blankets that make up her indoor and outdoor bed, she sleeps inside for the night, and out side she has a heater and cooler for when it gets too hot or cold out during the day, but it’s not like we dress her up, carry her around like a baby, let her get on the furniture or give her absurd amounts of treats for no reason

I find it a little sad to see owners like this. They have so much love for their dogs and it's lovely to see. But it becomes too overwhelming to the dog and does more harm than good, which it's obviously not the owners intention. Also it was kinda disturbing for me at the start when she was saying "I want them to need me". I think it's okay to want attention from your dog, but to want your dog to need you to that extent and live only for you is projecting your insecurity and robbing them of much needed socialisation and stimulation from other sources. Dogs need a little independence too.

+SUNA-I think the owner was going through some kind of personal issues/trauma in her life to where she latched on hard to treating her dogs like baby dolls. She didn't go out very much because she devoted most of her time to pampering her dogs. She spent a lot of her money on dog clothes and probably a lot of dog brushes and styling accessories. When dogs become "child substitutes" like that (to me, they're living dolls more honestly because I wouldn't want kids being treated like this either), the owner is latching on for a specific reason. With Lilly (the bichon frise), her owner originally wanted another child. The husband said no, wasn't going to happen, so she got a girl dog to make up for it and basically become her doggie "daughter." Another owner overfed and pampered his dog because he was overcompensating from the sudden loss of a previous dog. So the full episode might've touched on the owner's reasons why these dogs became "child substitutes" but I believe, especially with the mom, that something was going on in that owner's life. She definitely wasn't happy or had a healthy, balanced life, and Victoria even commented that the owner didn't seem very happy and fulfilled. And that got transferred right to her dogs where she overcompensated by pampering and spoiling them within an inch of their life. She "needed to be needed" by someone or something, so she decided it was going to be her dogs. And that isn't healthy or fair to the dogs either. It definitely puts a lot of stress on them because they know their owner isn't happy and they don't know why. And it makes them sad. Those dogs weren't happy either. Spoiled children/dogs aren't very happy individuals.

yeah I'm not saying I don't feel for her or relate to her on some level, I truly do. I feel sorry for her because I've only seen this with infertility. She may be struggling in some other way like she can't find a husband, but... she clearly wants to be a mother... but for real. Not to dogs. And that's why she's doing this. If she can't give birth, it would be better for her to have a bond with a child she rescued rather than a dog she bought for $1000. That would make her a mother. This just makes her "one of those people," and it's sad, because I think she's probably struggling with some issue in that way that wasn't permitted to be talked about (for good reason).

Uh, 'therapy dog' doesn't mean what you think it means lady. 'Cute' doesn't factor into it. I've been in hospitals multiple times, around plenty of different types of people, it's astonishing that she looks at that jumping squirmy non-attentive dog and thinks that would be acceptable for a therapy dog?? Like seriously, I love dogs very very much and love to cuddle my own dog, but I'm plenty aware that it may be disastrous to bring him into a hospital (I missed him so much when I was in the hospital for almost a month, even cried missing him, but 99% chance he would've accidentally yanked an IV out if he was there out of pure excitement).

People have this strange idea that treating a dog like a human means treating than better. It happened to me before when I told a person that they must treat their dogs like dogs and the person got angry because he thought that meant reat him badly. People need to understand that dogs are amazing creatures, they are inteligent and lovable, but above all that they are DOGS, and treating them as such means providing them to be themselves, to be able to express their natural behaviors. That's how you ensure your dog to have high levels of welfare. Putting clothes on dogs for the simple purpose of dressing them up for fun? That's not natural, that's not appropriate and that's not good for any dog.

I dont dress my pets but, I dont see why you think its your business to tell someone else what to do. Have you ever seen a toddler get dressed? They hate it and often spend the day escaping from them. The dogs probably get used to it like a kid. If theyre taking care of them otherwise, feeding, walking, socializing them, and loving them im sure it doesnt effect them half as much as youre making it seem.

Tisk Tisk Actually, putting clothes on dogs is different than putting clothes on children. Not only do they not need it due to their fur coat which makes it uncomfortable, it also makes it incredibly difficult to communicate with other dogs. It can cause fights to break out amongst dogs because they can’t understand the signals the other sends them due to the clothes barrier.

@@supbabe7203 So you think it's wrong of me to care for the wellbeing of dogs? Let me be clear, I dont go around telling random people to stop dressing their dogs. But yes it is my business because I work with dogs, I'm graduated in animal welfare, I have the knowledge most dont know and so It's my RESPONSIBILITY as a professional in animal welfare to tell them how their actions are causing harm to their dogs. Unlike you, most of my clients thanked me for explaining this. Dont worry I can be polite when I need, but this is youtube, nd I have the right to express my opinion based on my knowledge here. If you dont care if a dog is unconfortable or suffering, well thats your problem, but dont tell me I shouldnt care for them
@satsujin4027
@satsujin4027 4 года назад
@@supbabe7203 Also I love how all your argument is based on "they probably get used to it" So let me correct you. I'm a biologist, I'm specialized in animal behavior, my area of expertise is dog behavior, I've been studying this for years, and by studying I do not mean looking at dogs at a park, I mean scientific studies, my final project was entirely focused on domestic dog behavio. So I dont wanna be rude, but yes I do understand more of this than you and I love sharing that logic to people who are polite and actually care for their pets which you dont seem to do. I assure you, just getting used to it, does not mean feeling ok with it. Dogs get used to a lot of things, that doesnt mean it becomes a good thing, it doesnt make it ok, specially because you force that on your pet instead of asking them what they want. For example, a dog can have a happy life even with a cut tail, but no matter what this dog will forever have trouble socializating because the tail is a big part of their communicating behaviors. You can have the best vet, you can showered a bulldog or a pug with love, they will still forever suffer with breathing problems. But people care more about how cute the breedings are rather than their wellbeing. So I hate to crush your dreams, but love will NEVER be enough to raise a dog, this is reality not a fairy tale. You can actually give your dog the choice, but humans love to hide behind the word LOVE and force dogs to behave and do what the owners want without asking the pets what they want. Thats why they still call themsleves OWNERS instead of tutors. Because it gives them the right to do whatever they want with their pets instead of being esponsible caretakers

Having trained my Service Dog myself, it's important to know that they have to love their job and want to please you! You have to learn how your dog learns, and build on that! Also socialization should be started from 10 weeks so that your dog can be comfortable in all situations! I hope Tilly succeeded in her test and can help other people 😊 (ETA: there is a difference between service dogs and therapy dogs. Being a service dog raiser/trainer, I shock people all the time with my current puppy in training with how well behaved he is and how many rules I have for him. I'd say service dog training takes much longer than therapy training, as there are more advanced elements to it, but therapy training is no joke. Girl, you can't just think really hard and really want your dog to be a therapy dog. You don't even know what a therapy dog acts like. It takes a lot of work and Tilly clearly is not the right dog to become a therapy dog. She doesn't care about people, she just wants to sniff around and explore things. There is no way that your positive attitude will make a dog and a certified therapy dog. AND, your tests with friends aren't helping at all, Tilly clearly feels uncomfortable and wants to escape. This person is a nightmare.

  @Ginger Hammond No. Small dogs can also be great therapy dogs. I have both big and small dogs, my small one has a calmer, sweeter temperament. +iMilui-Clearly, she doesn't understand the concept and the weight of what being an actual mother is. Dogs are WAY easier than having kids. And I have quite a lot of dogs and nieces/nephews in the family. And she is the type of "mother" as it is that enjoys overspoiling her "kids" but doesn't accept the responsibility and weight of actually raising those "kids". . .dogs. And she's the type that's surprised and taken back that they're unruly and don't listen to her after she has spoiled them. And that they're not a joy to be around for other people. I feel she was very deeply unhappy and there were things going on in her life that led her to latch on to her dogs like "baby substitutes" and the dogs could sense she was unhappy and that made them very sad and unhappy too. She definitely didn't have a healthy lifestyle where she refused to go out a lot of the time and probably spend time with her family. And since she didn't go out very much, HOW did she even expect her pampered princess that wasn't even properly socialized with other people was going to be anywhere near a therapy dog? From what it seems, Tilly really wasn't that interested and didn't take to wanting to be a therapy dog. (Dogs will display a natural interest/tendency to where you can have a good sense if they can be trained to be good therapy dogs. Because not every dog can be trained well to be one.) And that's okay. But that sort of "mothering" wouldn't even be suitable for kids. If kids went through much the same things, where their mom rarely go out, they rarely go out and see anyone or go anywhere, they would be deeply unhappy and unsettled too. I wouldn't want a child going through that either. It would be far disturbing if she thought that was the true concept of what being a mother is. And Victoria probably got a bit irked because she's a mom and she knows full well what being a dog owner and a mother is.

There is nothing wrong with dressing your dog in clothes. Sometimes its for their well being (like my doberman shivering so much that a jacket is needed to stop him from being cold) or its for fun, again like my dog having a holiday themed shirt on just for an hour or so for the party. I used to show my dogs in 4-H as a kid, which involved traveling for 3 days to one major event where the dogs stayed overnight in the show area while the kids stayed overnight in the dorms. One year I took, ironically, my purebred show dog, and she got sick around the 2nd night. Didn't think much of it, but the next year at the same show she got sick in exactly the same way on the 2nd night and we realized she was very stressed about staying in that environment for days at a time. Never made her do an overnight show again - next time I was a steward, an assistant to the judges who doesn't bring a dog. That's your partner, you have to respect their feelings and interests. That little dog has no interest in meeting new people and going strange places, she's not even a working breed. A full time job is just not for her, she wants to stay home and relax.

Wow, still working even though covid-19 is on a rampage? Brave. All due respects to Victoria! May we pray no more lives will be lost due to covid-19. 🙏

As a service dog owner if I go into a hospital and see a dog like this as a therapy dog I would freak. This dog is absolutely nowhere being ready . Not only would it distract my service dog and endanger me , it would be extremely over-stimulated or completely shut down

Let's all watch this video and ask ourselves, "Am I anthropomorphizing my dog?" Be honest. Yes, yes you are.

The fact that she had no idea what being a therapy dog actually entails makes me think that this is more about being able to show off Tilly. While there's nothing wrong with that (I have a therapy dog, and I'd be lying if I said getting compliments about him don't make me happy), it shouldn't be the reason you get your dog into therapy work. It seems more that she wants to have proof that her dog is 'special'.

I must admit I believed she was the birth mother. To make it worse, she told me that I was the father. I shall certainly be stopping the child support payments!

The love she has for her dogs is fine but loving someone also means you need to try and understand them and their needs and treat them the way they need to be treated That being said she does seem to have a really unhealthy attachment
