But, retrospective evaluations have been kinder, even positioning him as one of the best prime ministers of India in various polls and he led an important administration, overseeing a major economic transformation and several home incidents affecting national security of India

How is GST a reform, Chidambaram ji, if it is responsible for job losses or lesser job growth? 90% of the jobs since 1991 were in the informal sector, which has been destroyed by GST and demonetisation. Why are BJP+Congress never speak about the deplorable role of GST when it comes to job growth? What provisions have been made to encourage job growth in the coming years? Why did Malaysia remove GST? Almost all modern economists do not seem to have any sense of right and wrong.
reform doesn't necessarily mean its positive or negative. it could be a failed reform or a successful reform. GST was initially a brainchild of UPA government which wanted to put the maximum rate at 18%. But BJP has now put 28% on certain goods which is completely unacceptable. However, GST itself will bring long term benefit if they can correct the brackets and rate.

Mr. Chidambaram is definitely a very articulate person and admirable for his decency and logic. The one thing that startles me in this interview is when he very carefully recounts the names of the prime ministers who have served their full terms or near full terms in the past, he very aptly forgets to name Mr. Narsimha Rao and Mr. Manmohan Singh from that list. Is this not a disgrace to their own former party leaders? Does the Congress party itself not recognise the people from outside the Nehru-Gandhi clan as their own representatives, that they (conveniently) forget to nane them. I don't consider it a miss at all but a deliberate miss. And if indeed it is so, it is disgusting. Otherwise a great interview
95% of the questions were indirectly blaming Modi and was discussed in detail. 5% of the questions were blaming Chithambaram which he refused to discuss. What a mockery!

Chidambaram also says only 500 of 5000 units survive in Tiruppur. What if the 500 units have become bigger and employs even more people ! He has no data backing. Bangladesh and Vietnam produce cheaper textiles and are giving Tiruppur tough competition. FTA rules have to be revised.
