Every other week is very generous... Even just a monthly garden tour like you used to do would be delightful. We know you're busy, don't over-extended! ❤
Jess, just passing on what the young lady who cuts my hair shared last week. Her son suffered horribly with allergies from pollen. He had breathing issues that required going to the ER. She started giving him honey from local hives, who were feasting on the pollen in her area. After a month, his allergy response decreased, and he didn't have to go to the ER once in a year. I think it makes sense, to desensitize your body with the pollens you are having problem with. Just a thought. looking forward to the tours.
My granddaughter's allergist told us to do this as she was having to have so many injections for her allergies at a young age. She was so tiny for her age and he was totally into trying to find the best results to minimize the pain and side effects of treatments. Since all the grandkids suffered from allergies we started them all on local honey. I can attest that it does work.
I love your garden tours! ❤ Saturday mornings for sure would be the best. I loved when you were posting them on Saturday mornings a couple years ago. It started off my weekend just right 😊
Jess, I would love garden tours with as many details as possible. You are the reason I jumped off 3 years ago and started quite a bit of my plants from seed. You told me I could do it. And I did at age 76. Thank you. He is risen, indeed!
So happy to hear Hope is pregnant! I'm also happy the killdeer is back: she's very much a continuing character in your vlogs, scolding you from her first laid egg through the whole Spring and Summer. I feel like you should put up a sign for her: "Killdeer Nest Zone: Watch Where You Walk!" I love Garden Tours whenever you can do 'em. You've got so many projects going on, I feel like any tour you find time to do is a gift. My faves, to be honest, are when the garden is producing, seeing you harvest such gorgeous fruits and veggies.
I find that weekends, especially saturdays, are the days I have the most time (and need!) for a relaxing and pretty Garden tour video. I get to dream without time constraints. And maybe make a run to the garden center if inspiration strikes 😉
I am so ready for garden tours again, and yes ... PLEASE "bore" me with all of the varieties that you're growing! My little frost tender heart is singing right now with happiness for the warm weather on the way. Thinking of your high tunnel full of peppers just makes me want to get outside in the garden. I love how you inspire me to do more. I will make sure to tag you in any future farm to table food videos. Thanks for sharing, as always ❤
Recipe: Sautéed spinach with bacon and feta Serves 4 Ingredients 4 strips bacon 3-4 tsp butter or bacon fat ½ med red onion, chopped 16 oz baby leaf spinach 1 tsp grated nutmeg 1/2c feta cheese, crumbled Step 1 Cook the bacon in a large saucepan over a medium heat until crisp, remove to cutting board and cut into small pieces. Drain off all the fat except 4 tsp from the pan. Step 2 Sauté the onions in the reserved fat or butter in the saucepan over a medium heat until translucent. Step 3 Add the spinach, sauté until wilted over a medium heat, about 3 mins. Step 4 Once wilted, grate in the nutmeg. Step 5 Stir in the feta and bacon pieces then serve straight away. Note: Cherry tomatoes cut in half, added with the nutmeg, is a nice addition.
Thanks for running back to the house and grabbing your camera even though it freaked out the goats lol. But I love it so much when you bring us along for just about anything and everything.😃
I love the idea of the scheduled garden, tour and chats, and every two weeks is quite generous. We have nothing to complain about and if you can’t keep up with that, do not worry about it we will take what we can get while you take care of yourself and everybody else.😉😁
I miss your garden tours so much. I found you as soon as you started in a sever time of need. I had just finished chemotherapy chemotherapy A full hysterectomy. I started looking for others gardening without all the chemicals. I didn't want to put anything else like that in or on my body & I found My People.
❤ During the Birch pollening here in MN I have to make sure I take showers often, never wear the same clothes twice and never go to bed with pollen hair. At minimum I change my pillowcase every night to make sure I am not rubbing my face in a pollen pillowcase. Bless you sweet girl. He is Risen! Every single day. I love the idea of a premiere. Time doesn't matter. Can you show us how the swales are working for the orchard? And....will the pink garden door ever return? 💓💞💕
You know, showering before bed is probably something I should be doing no matter how tired I am. Because I definitely wake up worse some morning and I wonder if its the mornings I didn't wash my hair
@@RootsandRefugeFarm my allergist says shower at night, including washing your hair. All the pollen on your body and hair from all day is in your bed, otherwise! edit: ps - don't hang your clothes or sheets out to dry, you will bring all the pollen into your house!
I completely commiserate with y’all! I live in the upstate of South Carolina ,and during the pollen cloud season I’m always miserably sick. Definitely will start washing my hair every night and see what happens 😅.
Do you ever feed the cats excess milk? When I was a kid the cats always followed Dad to the barn waiting for their morning milk. Good memories. Love your channel!
Hey, Jess! Just have to pop in and say that though I’m old enough to be your mom, I always just love it when you open with “Hello, darlin!” It’s like we are all little pieces of your family. Have a blessed Easter. ❤️
The garden is a beauty as she awakens in the spring. I could stare at it for hours! Something I always struggle with is what to feed my garden. Such as soil amendments. I never know what to use because there is so much to choose from. Love the idea of a premiere!
Really like the idea of a garden tour premiere🤗. Saturday afternoon or early evening would probably work for most ppl. To interact with the chat would allow so many ppl to lend advice or ask questions. Bc there are ppl from all over, I'm sure that someone will have the wisdom that others are seeking. Many blessings to you as always💞
Oh wow, I just realized that when I hear the sound of your wind chimes, I know that your video is playing without even watching it. Other wind chimes sounds remind me of my grandmother.
If not for the resurrection we would be without hope. Thank you Jesus, sinless Son of God, for walking through the darkest day anyone can imagine to save us!
Evenings are best for me Jess around 7 pm o wait is your time there different than Kentucky if so can you do the math of it and let everyone no ahead of time as to do away with any confusion it may cause Lol you guys God bless you all
Hello sweet Jess I love you to the moon and back so I’m very happy your taking care of yourself to know when you need rest is important to our bodies. Lesson learned and thank you for affirming. I love that you share your garden with the birds and wild life. That you encourage them the visit and garden beside you. It’s the way it was meant to be. I have and will make time for you in my day whenever you go live in your garden tours. I’ve learned so much from you have come know and love your beautiful southern God fearing heart and all that you bring into my life. Thank you for being you. Be Blessed. 🙏❤️
As someone with allergies and asthma, I've learned over the years to wear a dust mask anytime the pollen is really bad (and that's after many years of allergy shots). Showering at night is also a necessity. Hope you feel better soon!
I know you are not feeling well, BUT i just wanted to tell you, that you looked extra lovely today. You always look beautiful, but there was an additional glow about you. Thank you for all you do.
Jess my Mum would of love to have "weed" asparagus. I remember growing up in Hungary Asparagus was a very expensive and rare treat an my Mum always ask for her Birthday. Of course only preserved never fresh but still watching her taking them out of the jar and crunch on them she was in Heaven. Jess I grew up with spinach stew you sautee the spinich on butter or oil crush garlic in it put some flour on it and some milk. Should be a thick runny consistency. Then we put fried meatball on the top or "legless chicken" which is breadroll soak in warm water then push out the water mix it with lots and lots of parsley and eggs and flour. Fry it and put it on the spinach. All vegetarian. Hope you like our poor people traditional Hungarian recipe. 🐇🪺🐇🪺 Happy Easter🎉
Two great spring salads I always make are: Baby spinach, strawberries and walnuts or pecans, red onions and some soft goat cheese crumbles. You can add bacon pieces, I usually don't. Warm vinaigrette of your choice. The second salad is baby spinach, roasted beets, blue cheese crumbles or other soft cheese and toasted pecans. Also vinaigrette of your choice. I hope you have a pecan tree nearby! Besides the dressing, all the ingredients could come from your farm. Spring and Fall cooking are my favorites. Risotto with fresh mushrooms or peas and asparagus is something we wait all year for.
Re: greenhouse: That's how it feels doing things indoors too. I have to check everything every day. And it gets crazy when you're hardening plants off and where to set them down and to remember to bring them in etc. It's just a lot of work taking care of babies of anything including plants lol.
Absolutely! Baby anything... people, animals, plants, ferments, sourdough... they are all living things and nothing should suffer under our watch right? Blessings on your day and your growing season Kiddo! 🌻🐛Carolyn in Ohio 🌿
Garlic cloves Local Raw honey lemon & collodial silver 500ppms will knock that out❤ Praying you feel better ASAP Thanks for sharing🎉🎉🎉& I luv rocks & fossils too💗
Jess try Loose Nettle & Mullein Tea together with something else for a little flavor, it works wonders. I have not had a sinus issues in over a year. You have to start drinking a cup daily before the pollen gets here and it works wonders!!! I don't even take allergy meds anymore!!!
Just had gallbladder surgery on Monday. Although im very aggravated about the whole thing, i trust God and his plan. He knew i would need my energy more during planting time. And i totally understand reminding myself every day, this is my dream!!!
I've been watching your garden tours since the early days when they were on IG. Thank you for taking the time year after year to share your gardens with us. ♥️
I love seeing the killdeer babies. I see a few nests worth of them on my way to see my mama goats every day during the summer. Makes me smile every time.
Make a salad with spinach, carmelized onions & bacon bits then pour a warm homemade strawberry vinaigrette on top. I get this at a local restaurant & make it fresh in the spring. It’s amazing 🍓 🌱
Thank God!! Hope is a good breeder! Never give up “Hope” 😅 You are all so very busy with everything. Lord bless you and all your work, family and to make wise decisions in all you do. 🙏🕊️✝️❤️
There used to be a bbq/pub in town that served a smoked chicken, spinach, & artichoke dip that was Amazing. Chef never gave up the recipe, but we guessed that there was a smokiness in the cheese too. It was creamy And stretchy. It was topped with panko & finished in the wood fired pizza oven. I really miss that dip. Leftovers made The Best omelette filling.
Your garden tours are the reason I fell in love with the garden and wanted to grow things you'll never get in stores ❤ I think Friday evenings would be a good time 🎉
Applebees had a Spinach salad w hot bacon dressing on it soooo good. All spinach with hard eggs, bacon crumbles, diced tomatoes, red onion and sunflower seeds....if i remember correctly. I havent been there for years but i stiil remember that salad.❤❤
You take care of yourself, Jess--glad things straightened out with Hope, and people without the responsibility of a farm don't always get the decisions that must be made, or at least planned for. I had to laugh when Winnie was blatting, she reminded me of my cat outside the door in the morning, mewing. It's like I don't feed him 2x a day, EVERY day, for every day of his little kitty life. He's so afraid of being forgotten! I tease him by saying, "Have I ever forgotten you, little guy?" That's Winnie. I am just getting my crocuses up here in VT, and still some snow, but they don't care! Have a wonderful Easter weekend, Jess...💕💙💚💛
We planted our tomatoes, onions and jalapenos last weekend and this weekend is cucumbers, green beans, carrots and bell peppers. I can't wait for all that garden goodness 🤩
I'm a central California girl. We definitely have a pollen season, too. Couldn't drive my truck without giving it a bath 1st. Thankfully, my sensitivities are more to mold spores than pollen. More leaf mold in the rainy season. Like you, Jessica, I grieve a little when my schedule prevents me from spending a sunny day in the garden or even outside. Easter morning was a lovely sunny time with storm clouds in the distance approaching by mid day. God blessed us with a sun filled downpour as the toddler joyfully dashed about on their scavenger hunt. Premiers sound lovely❤. A couple days notice might improve my liklihood of joining you live. Though if you were posting mid morning your time I might linger over my coffee a bit longer than usual to chat with you before grabbing my mucklucks, gloves & shovel & heading out to the garden. May God bless your immune system with complete healing & continue to demonstrate His presence in your sweet heart. Shalaom my friend. ❤
I understand you taking Mia on a garden tour. My husband helps me preparing the soil and infrastructure and enjoys all the produce but that is it. If I wasn't 73 years old I would add a dairy cow to our small farm. I grow a big garden(70'x115') and preserve by canning, freeze drying, and freezing the bounty! I am looking forward to your garden tours and chat! God bless you Jess!
So excited your building your dream home,You’re so deserving of all the blessings God has planned for you ,through your faith ,sweat, tears and diligence 🇨🇦❤️🙏🌺🌷🩵
I would be so excited and make sure to schedule in premiere garden tours! Weekend mornings I think would be so much fun, everyone making a cup of coffee and sitting with a group of friends❤️thanks for bringing me along the farm friend
Take it easy Jess, you have a lot to care for. I know I’m feeling it. Gardens, Harding off, bumping up, etc. I keep having to come back & finish watching I wake up at 2:00 in the morning with no idea what videos on cuz I fell asleep. 🥹
"Learning when to call it" is the most important message. So grateful for you and the lessons you teach. You lead by example. Take all the time you need. (You could put up a camera on the pasture and call it a day😉)
Jess, you take care sweet friend! The pollen count has been the highest I have ever seen and ALL of us have made several visits to the clinic to get the meds necessary to get better. Sharing in your joy of home building and great to hear about Hope expecting!!! It's definitely Spring!!!
Us weekday folks are known for Sunday evening blues - maybe that would be a good time for PREMIER! 🎉❤ I could start to look forward to Sunday nights more!! ❤🎉
I came/come here to learn about gardening. I think garden tours are valuable when they include tips and tricks along with knowledge. I enjoy learning about the various varieties you've planted and when you describe the flavors, textures, and uses.
Saturday! Mornings would be lovely to have a tour and share a cup of coffee with friends 💗 also a great time for the majority of harvesting. Maybe an afternoon tour every now and then so we can also see tomato and pepper harvests 🥰
You are so right about having to remind ourselves of why we do what we do. I got Lyme Disease last year. For most of the year I felt awful. But the goats, chickens and rabbits, still need their feed, water, and pastures cared for. This last week I've had a sinus infection. The farm doesn't care. And I live alone. 😵💫🙏 But I do love my beasts!
The premieres area great idea. It can be like bowling league…. The gardening league & would probably work best in evenings any day of the week that works best for you. I personally find the first half of the week a bit stressful and would appreciate a garden tour to decompress that.
Yayyyy, garden chat tours would be awesome!! I join with other gardeners on their live chats and it’s a great thing to see gardeners come to together! I found Sunday afternoons are good because I’m normally cooking .
Such truth about care of greenhouse. I have citrus trees in my NC. Cried my eyes out when heater stopped in middle of night during recent freeze. Feel better, dear lady. I have expanded my tent pegs so much because of your channel. God bless your family.
I am so glad to hear about Hope! I am looking forward to garden tours or live videos. I love saving videos of meals made. I think were was this 40 plus years ago. I used to rummage through cookbooks to find new recipes to try or collect index cards with written recipes on them from family members or friends. Oh how times have changed. I used to keep a notebook were I wrote down dinner plans, recipes, To do list, To buy list, projects around the house list, etc. Now days, you can get planners to keep track. Ever since I discovered Utube, i have found some amazing channels to watch from gardening, homesteading, canning, fermenting, foraging, crafts, etc. I have learned so much in the last few years.
RECIPE,,,,I SAW your dormers cheese making video, tried it with cows milk,my daughter in law loves garlic so i added tons of crushed garlic ,some sweet onion and salt to some, pressed it all into a small form wrapped in cheese cloth so i can turn it over easily AMAZING FLAVOUR THANK-YOU for doing that farmers cheese video
I feel you, Jess. I have a broken foot and I’m still hobbling down to my basement to make sure my seedlings are OK. I can’t lose all the effort I’ve put in and a whole gardening year! Hope you feel better soon 😊
I love the idea of premiere garden tours. Thank you for taking the time to share your garden experiences through garden tours. I have been watching them since the beginning, and still learn more every time. I hope you and your family have a wonderful Easter!
Jessica sowards you are truly the sweetest! Thank you for all your beautiful content and sharing your words and lovely farm. ❤ premiered garden tours sound amazing. Love that idea. 🎉
Jess, You had me at "garden tour". LOL. I think any time is a fine time to watch a R&R garden tour. You name the time and day and I will be there. Premiers sound perfect.
