You started talking to them, laughing with them, and offering them fish. Nothing about that interaction told them you didn't want them there. How were they being Karens?
@@bleachedfever Or at least just not right up by the fishing poles. I guess they just wanted to be by the water *shrugs* Anyways, it all played out so beautifully
Although, to be totally fair, there were at least four different set ups fishing, and while these people did set up their beach lounging gear, they weren't in the water, trying to fish, or even remotely complaining, at least in what I saw, about the fishing. It really was quite a spread. But, cooler heads prevail, and everything right happened.
you probably dont fish, it was very disrespectful how they set up camp there. If you ask me, they did it on purpose to trigger the fisherman. Maybe that's "their" spot to catch sun, and therefore wanted to give heat. Fisherman did an excellent job at turning it around!
@@JuanMartinez-ez5hp meh, I grew up on an island, beach fishing was basically a way of life, and the beach goers did nothing wrong. My opinion, there are NO Karen's in this.
On the other hand, I see guys on the beach with a bunch of rods and they're taking up 50-60 feet of shore with their gear. All sorts of people go to the beach.
So what? There’s over a hundred miles of beach. A lot of it empty. So what if a fisherman takes up 50 yards of beach. If there’s miles and miles of vacant beach on each side then set up somewhere else.
@@pitstop_calvin I think that the insinuation was that that wasn’t the case I’ve seen them do it on really crowded beaches too We just need to learn to respect each others space
This was CLICK BATE for the views!!! How were they interfering with his fishing? I wish he had called the cops and they would have told him he was in the WRONG. Total CLICK BAIT excuse the pun.
Dude, please...I don't think its fair for you to think you are in the right to take up like 100 yards of beach either. I see nothing wrong with them sitting there when you have several poles spaced that far apart.
I was thinking the same thing, its not your beach so, theres other places you could have walked to, considering you have taken up a massive strip of beach i would say your lucky people didnt tell you to fu*# off
@Coby Easton lol I been fishing my whole life and you need to realize it's a public beach you sure don't own it. Sheesh stop complaining and have some sense of reality
@Coby Easton don't have football field worth of rods and there won't be an issue. You do realize that like 75% of the fishing piers/ beaches have now implemented rules of one rod per fisherman because of dumb stuff like this.
I love that you say to "walk like Jesus." Im watching this at 5:45am, and I will take this as my message for the day, delivered by messenger. Thank you for being a vessel for God's message to me today. Bless you.
Agreed. I beach fish as well. Still have to be respectful. When It is "first come first serve" still only take what you need. Condense the poles, and fan out your lines. Also easier to manage.
You’re insane. You were taking up an incredible amount of space on the beach. They just wanted to sit by the ocean and watch you fish. You should encourage people to sit near you and enjoy their company sometimes. That’s how you teach people and keep the sport going.
@@MAMorelli to be mindful for the safety of others and enjoy a public place that is quite devoid of tourists. In Europe people will put you in line very fast because doing what that people did is not only disrespectful and quite sociopathic but also a sign of the idiosyncrasy of US Americans. the French would say they don't know how to "faire".
@@TheGrmany69 I get how you're seeing it, and I would be inclined to agree with you, but this specific example felt like a more refined form of man-spreading.
@@MAMorelli manspreading doesn't exist, it only police and politicize human posture and bio mechanics, the way you dare to vinculante this to that only shows your way of reasoning. Those people were up to something by not even asking first in a huge beach like that specially with so few people around. In south America this is a very sure way to look for trouble also, authoritarian nonetheless.
hows he a karen. There is like so much space on the beach they could've chose somewhere else, also if they dont want to see fish getting cut up and hooked, then they should leave and go to a different spot.
@@OCOrlando when did they say they didn’t want to see fish getting cut up? Looks like they just wanted to respectfully share the beach and they were friendly to him. He even said they smiled at him when they sat there. I guess that could have been satan trying to trick him.. very clever snake he is.
@@OCOrlando That depends. If the guy set up his rods close to the parking spots then that would mean those people would have to carry their stuff all the way down the beach so the fishing guy could hog the beach near the parking spots.
You are the man, you showed the fishing community what we all need to act like. You graciously gave your catch to these people and fed them for a night, but you taught us all a proper way to handle this. You will reap the rewards for being kind my brother. I love this act of spreading the Word... fish on brother and tight lines...
I haven't always been the most positive person, but now in my mid-forties I'm trying to make an effort to be more loving to those around me even when others are not. When I woke up this morning I said a prayer and I thanked God for all the blessings that I and my loved ones receive every single day, and I asked him to please make today a beautiful positive day. I'm so thankful I found your video, because the choice you made to be loving and compassionate instead of rude and angry is exactly what I am striving for! Thank you so much for sharing I so needed to see this today!!!🙏✌💜
@@joestar5629 he is selfish because he is holding like whole ass 100ft public beach just for himself and gets angry on very calm and cool couple. the dude would be right only if he would be fishing with only on one rod and couple sits in front of rod.
Because it's just common knowledge, decency and 'fishing law/lore' to not do that. If you don't fish then you wouldn't understand. When casting you need to be clear of people especially with a long surf rod, it was just a dumb decision to sit there. He was 100% correct for being frustrated!!!
As an out of town guy. I’m going to sit in between you and your rods and yell… “fish on” when the times right. When there’s a fish on… and you’re off sulking and pissed off.
If they was swimming, it would be a different story. But they didn’t interfere with the fishing so I wouldn’t have been upset at all. But I do tend to go out my way to please other people. Either way you did the right thing sir. 🙏👍
Wow, I love your attitude and commitment to Christ. That’s so encouraging. You’re right, we are all sinful and we need His strength everyday. Awesome fishing.
Amazing how ppl complain about rod placement. Shows how much knowledge they have on fishing. The beach is practically empty show some respect to the angler that was there b4 you
Dude I have to say you handled it very well but the initial anger was unwarranted. If I saw you fishing I'd want a front row seat too. They didn't hinder you in any way or harass you. I get it, it's a big beach but honestly I'd be just as curious as they were. However, that being said you handled it very well even if your gut was to be mad. Respect on that
I'm an atheist. But this is why I'm not in any way spiteful towards people of faith. Its about treating people with kindness even if they don't. Much respect brother
ya know what thank you Dave!! i dont believe in religions ether but my ego driven self sometimes finds my self being spiteful and this comment has just made me realise that! thanks bro
@@learningtolivewithhumans1859 mine too for a long time. None of my friends are atheists because I can't stand most of them. They hate religion so much they forget to see the good in people.
Walking up close to the girl and start taking pictures! If they complain use the same excuse they use, it’s a public beach, I can stand and take pictures ANYWHERE I want!
I’d a just moved and called it a great day. No need to let anyone take my joy. I do understand the frustration of walking way down to have a nice no people spot and then folks set up in your spot. Oh well, I’d still just move a hundred feet and keep the cast vibe going. They probably just think your super cool and want to check out what anglers are all about!
You definitely handled that better than most would have. After I heard you speak with them a little I have to say that I'm not sure if they were actually trying to be spiteful. I kind of got the impression that maybe they just weren't aware of the proper etiquette. As they were leaving I probably would have informed them, nicely, that their actions could have possibly gotten them a fine if they did it to the wrong fisherman. Oh btw you just got a new sub 👍
Sooo..the fisherman is the karen...🤔 definitely a Karen laugh, atleast he somewhat got his head out his butt with offering a fish...think dude needs a little more prayer time.
Imagine you have a picnic at a park with your family. Some random dude you don't know sits on the ground 5 yards away from you in a fairly empty park. How would you feel?
The other day I had some crazy lady try to run me off the beach. Said my lines are cutting the dolphins and she swims out there too and doesn’t want to get cut. Also she told me she communicates with the dolphins. 😂😂😂
I have held my tongue many times while other fisherman crwd me and inside I wanted to explode and then as time passes and I begin talking to them I think to myself, I'm glad my anger didn't overide my kindness, walked away feeling good about myself just like you did.
It is such a wonderful thing to see a human acting like a human; frustration gave way to kindness and generosity. No Karen was present at all. The sunbathers may have been unaware of what they were doing. The fisherman admitted his humanity openly and set a great example of owning up to his feelings and in the end went beyond. FishGum, great video, greater recovery, God bless you.
You're objectively wrong. Gumfish made an unreasonable claim to rights to exclusively use much of the beach, improperly, and then claimed that the other people were Karens (which he was). Then he compared himself to Christ. What a jerk.
@@danielmccaf I tried to see it differently but in the end, I agree with you Daniel. There was an awful lot of beach front that Fish Gum laid claim to and the sun bathers weren't competing for fish nor RU-vid airtime. I won't go so far as to call him a jerk but his self proclamation was not very close to Christ-like either. Click baited me with the title, got some RU-vid attention, made some beachgoers' day and took home some nice fish himself. Everyone was a winner I guess.
3 surf rods are customary in most states wish ocean beaches and they're spread apart to avoid intertwining amongst themselves. Florida may be different but its very impolite to cut in on a established fisherman's location
I'm confused, what was there to be pissed about in the first place? They didn't complain, go in the water near your line's, or mess with your fishing in any way.
I had some mutt setup, literally, right on top of me. I was fishing a spot called The Narrows. The river bottle necked then opened into a big pool. I was at the bottom end of the bottle neck where it opened up dropping my line into the water there. It was maybe 15 feet across to the other side at that point. The river bank along her were just giant rocks. As I sat with my line in the water all of a sudden and rig goes flying right over the top of my head. He was about 5 feet behind me and a few feet higher on the rocks. He kept getting tangled with my line. No telling how many times I jumped thinking I had a fish on and pulled in his stinking weight and hook. I tried everything to be subtle telling him to move. Tried hitting him with my pole when I cast out, even tried hooking the guy a couple of times. Then, as I was deciding whether to confront him or simply head down to the little beach on the pool my line started bobbing heavily and I just thought he had tangled with it again. Then he is yelling that I was getting a bite. Looked up to see him changing his line, it wasn't even in the water. By the time I reacted the fish was lost. Packed up my gear, then cussed him pretty well as I was leaving. I doubt he ever realized how pathetic it was of him to do that. This was years ago in Oregon.
...uh, making a huge deal out of nothing. I beach fish all the time and have found that most non-fishing people that own property will set up near their home. Non-fishing people that are visiting usually set up near the beach access. Not many people want to walk hundreds of yards down the beach to set up. That said, I typically set up as far from the beach access as I can walk in 3-5 minutes and still find good water. I've never had sunbathers set up between my rods though...but I try NOT to create as large a footprint as done here. Fish Gum clearly taking up way more space on the beach than is needed.
Be honest, you were happy to have spectators. And so happy you did something stupid: giving them fish. Next time these people will think: "let's sit close to a fisherman, maybe he will give us something of his fishes!".
100%you handled it good. The only thing I seen them do bad was set up between the polls if they were just sitting there like they did in this video I’m 100% fine it’s once they try to go in the water by those lines that have hooks on them it becomes a safety concern to me. (I have had kids swimming up and down the beach swim into my lines before ;talk about a heart stopper for me; I don’t like seeing anybody get hurt) I mean really I’ve had plenty of other fisherman get that close (just never set up between my polls).
I am a fisherman Fishing one or two rods fine but taking up 50 yards or more of beach with 6 rods and think you own it for the time spent has you being a Karen. You did the right thing and so did they.
I have been going through this a lot as a shore fisherman in my chest waders. I've had a list of scenarios that I've unfortunately experienced by RUDE IGNORANT people. From pot smokers iin front of their kids (like today) from guy throwing his ball in the water for his loud barking scaring the fish away dog (today as well) last year I yelled at him! Told him off. 3 weeks a go I went to an old spot and a demon possessed bum started cursing and swearing atop from shore down at me. Within 5 minutes of that I went over to him and told him "If he doesn't shut up and back up his big mouth with his fists, I'm going to throw him in the water, and punch him in the face. I worked hard all week I need peace and quiet! So shut up now!" Then he cried out "But I got a bad leg!" I walked away fuming and left to go to another spot. I have many incidents of everything possible to piss me off as a fisherman. To the point that I started saving starting this week to buy a kayak to get away from Satanic land "interferences." Or if God wants to test me let Him test me alone on the river in my kayak, because people here are CRAZY! I've been a Christian for 36 yrs. but the people are getting on my nerves! Do you 3 boys have to throw rocks in the water and play your rap music loud while I fish? So thank you dear Brother for letting us know your honest true thoughts of seeing that couple just plop themselves between your poles. To kick sand at them, ya I hear ya' like my wanting to cast my treble hooked lure (and have!) at the jet skier purposefully coming close to me right over my fishing space, and boats. Even birds I've caught getting in my way as I cast. You are honest and real and you turned the temptation of your flesh into a wonderful act of love and grace. Talk about hot coals! My wife said this video (you) was an answer to her prayer, because she knows what I go through. Now as of recent even her co-worker (a slow person) I tried to scare her away from floating on her noodles with her Mom in my fishing area by saying muskies swim around here and they have been known to bite people. (True! NOT lying) 2 days later on a Friday after she left I tail hooked my first musky at 4 feet long 36.5 lbs. I told her the next day when she saw my wife's FB post of my first ever musky, I said I told you they're out here! But she was not deterred in the least. She comes out now more than ever! LOL! So again I hear your frustration and the temperature rising. I have many other unbelievable incidents which are too long, but like you said we have SO SO MUCH TO BE GRATEFUL FOR. I live in a small poor border town, and this is the people's oasis holiday spot to HAVE A LIFE. WE are fortunate and blessed to have so much more especially in knowing our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. They don't. I have NOTHING to complain about. Next time I'm just packing up and leaving. No stares. No good byes. No telling them off. JUST GO. Not worth losing my peace over and sinning by grieving the Holy Spirit which I've done. Keep being honest and keep making great fishing videos. God bless you.
TBH I would have set up close too just to watch what you catch. I would have set up back further not to block your run path. Being from Canada and an avid fisherman I would love to see what you pull out. It is all new to me for species and absolutely fascinating.
maybe they just smoked a joint and were chillin, didn't give it a second thought... "lets go sit there and watch this guy fish"... me personally I just play my stereo flat out with some heavy thrash metal ... usually that eradicates the problem... today its even easier, just start coughing really loud and say " bloody covid, got me again"
They seemed like perfectly lovely people, not everyone is out to get us, and when we take up lots of room as anglers, we shouldnt get so worked up. We seem to have this territorial, tribalistic thing going on, everyone outside of our little box who are suddenly stepping in is the enemy, we are all people at the end of the day and togetherness is better than division. I was fishing at a marina the other day, having so many people going about their day around me was awesome. I dont like this mentality of "this is my space, get out of my space" its essentially why wars happen. The beaches, the sea, its for us all, so we have remember that any annoyance we have is more about us not getting our own way, you dealt with your annoyance very well and that showed maturity
