Serge being excited to play a mechanic for the first time, that has since been banned between filming and release, is strangely a quintessential Serge moment. "I've never actually played any of the Un cards in a format like this" And this may be the only time lol

There was a bit of an exception when Lurrus was banned in Vintage for a while (for power level reasons) but otherwise Canlander has been pretty consistent in using the Vintage banlist.

@@jarzz3601 i think it's just assumption based off of the fact that canlander effectively matches the vintage banlist-- it's possible that they could keep them, but there's no official announcement to my knowledge

There is. Ben has publicly stated that as Attractions and stickers are banned in Vintage, so too are they banned in Canlander.

I actually think Orcish Bowmaster is totally fine in a Zombie deck. Like it has amass! If you have an amass Zombies card, Bowmasters makes that zombie bigger! Also yes, Sorensen did turn 1 ritual hypnotic specter on an FNPF, which was immediately killed by a lightning bolt from wheeler. Good old fashioned beta magic

@@ShinerCCC The way Amass works, if you already have a Zombie Army, Bowmasters will put a counter on it and add the Orc creature type so that you have a Zombie Orc Army that grows bigger.

I've been away for a few episodes, but I'm back again with another North 100 Showdown stats update. It was a great episode for all my fellow Nelson-going-first fans! He won the die roll, bringing his die roll rating to 23%, up a whopping 13% from the last stats update. If Nelson wins a few more die rolls against Serge, who currently sits at 36%, they could trade places! As far as the outcome is concerned, Serge won the match going second, bringing his overall record to 38% winning and his record on the draw to 32% winning. Nelson, though he is improving at rolling dice, has still yet to win a match when he is on the play, leaving his overall record at 15% and his record on the play at 0%.

It's a terrible sign for the format and for MTG in general when you see cards like "Urza's Saga" being played in every deck, even in Tribal Zombies. Very very sad! :(

That early dauthi interaction is particularly troublesome for Nelson. Spoilers . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Because if he discards the Grizzy to escalate the serge can then activate the dauthi to reanimate his Grizzy with the kill spell on the stack.

no, since Griselbrand doesn't have Flash, Serge can't cast it during Nelly's turn. (Voidwalker says "you may play it this turn" so you have to follow normal timing rules.)

It can be. *But* to get on(or off) the points list, as explained in the last CanUpdate vid, the decision must be UNANIMOUS, unlike a simple majority for making a 2pt card 1pt, or a 3pt card 5pts, etc.

As they say in the video an Urborg is in play which turns all lands into swamps. So Nelson can absolutely tap that fetchland for black which he does and clearly announces, "I cast this for two black".

It is amazing to me that so many of the LRR crew still don't understand how set codes -- and the information at the bottom of the cards, in general -- work. [RE: The Tomb Tyrant conversation.]

We ARE talking about a bunch of Magic players, not Magic collectors. 😅 Wheeler is the only person I know who actively tries to collect cards (one copy of every card in Magic), but even if he knows how to read and use collector info from the bottom of cards, he would try to guess Tomb Tyrant's original set just to test his memory.

Why? Those numbers don’t really mean anything for Magic play, just Magic collection. And even then, it’s not essential collection information.

@@Veelofar Clearly, you also don't understand them. They had a completely unnecessary discussion, when 'MIC' is right there. It's from Midnight Hunt Commander. I would guess, on average, they do this at least once per week for cards which have the answer right in the card data. No one in the room -- including whoever is on tech -- ever has any clue that the answer to the thing their debating about is right in front of them.

@@augustcross2305 But these are also Magic players who are *VERY* heavily invested in what cards come specifically from what sets (PPRs, drafts, sealed, etc.). I'm not even suggesting that it's something they need to actively seek out. At some point, a person's general curiosity has to notice that all of the cards in a set (or subset, bonus sheet, etc.) have the same code at the bottom. The LRR staff aren't your normal batch of clueless idiots. They're a naturally inquisitive bunch, and I'm shocked that at least one of them hasn't noticed and communicated the ready availability of the information.

@@tsimmersjr in order for the codes to be useful, you have to memorize all of them. It can help you look them up, but it’s often a question that comes up in shoot, and it’s typically bad form to be looking things up like that, and you can always look up the card by name anyway.

Quick thing at 24:40 ish that doesn’t matter too much, but a slight misttap by Nelson. He can change which lands he taps for murktide, but he used a black and a blue to pay for blue blue.

They are banned now, but I believe these are prerecorded and they didn’t want to scrap the episode just because of the recent ban.

@@jarzz3601 the canlander committee would need to make a specific decision to allow a card banned in vintage to be played. See for example Ben Wheeler’s tweets following the BnR, but it is always safe to assume cards banned in vintage are banned in canlander.

Literally nothing? They just record in batches and then post those until the batch is done. You'll see wheeler back shortly its only a three person rotation

I genuinely appreciate watching Nelson play. I see a lot of the way I think about my games when he walks through his thought process, including the bad beats.
