What??? Seriously??? Man love this video and this DAW. Not even have a clue that you could do all these thins to control and remote control. Thank you!!! You are THE REAPER ORACLE
In my book the greatest advantage of the web interface is the ability to adjust headphone mixes remotely by band members, allowing the to do their own mixes remotely. No need for personal montiroing stations, the only requirement would be DAW monitoring. I've yet to test it with 2+ people connected simultaneously, but I see no problem with that theoretically. As a new, mindblowing addendum to the web interface: the Web Remote Builder (WRB) has been released, now you are able to create custom web control surfaces in HTML. As a one man band recording all instruments live this saves me a ton of energy running between my instruments and my PC when doing punch ins.
We have 10+ simultaneously users with their own mixes, I bet 100+ would be no problem either. I agree, VERY useful in live situations :) I have built a couple of physical interfaces with knobs and rotary encoders for the musicians who hate using a smartphone for this - actually very handy live, much faster access. Simple ESP8266 micro controllers, communicating with OSC to Reaper.
@@asgeirkarlsen2185 Since the posting of this comment I had used it to record my band's demo, it was used during tracking sessions by each member, that's six individual mixes controlled by everyone's own smart device. I had my phone running my custom WRB surface for project navigation and my iPad for personal monitoring. The freedom it gives the perfomer and the burden it lifts off the engineer's shoulder is just immeasureable.
This is a godsend. Without having someone to 'run the board' for me, this allows me to take the essentials of the board to wherever I'm recording. Especially for recording multiple tracks on a drum kit, I don't have to keep maneuvering back and forth and knocking shit over and being generally clumsy. One issue is that I don't see a way to listen to audio on the remote device so you still need to run headphones form the board. No biggie. The other issue is you can't see the track meter levels.
In ear monitor TX/RX system. Just like musicans on stage. Otherwise you could try remote control of the computer itself with another dumb laptop. I Never dit it but should be possibile.
It's very interesting. It could be theoretically used for controlling reaper via voice assistants. It could trigger recording, for example. Just to say something like "Alexa, start recording"... Implementation could be quite difficult, though. I think some stuff like tasker, voice monkey, IFTTT, and so on would be needed. Or to combine it with autowear and control reaper from your wear os smart watch.
Hi Adam, great instructional video as always - thanks. You mentioned sharing your Reaper template that was set for the monitoring on the Web Interface, wondered where that might be found? Cheers, Phil.
Hi Adam, I just recently discovered reaper, but I’m having trouble with third-party plugins. My softube plug-ins originally worked, but now freeze Reaper and Reaper recognizes some of my Slate digital plug-ins, but not others. Any help you can give would be much appreciated.
That’s correct, this is data only. It’s possible to send sound using something like Audiomovers and a browser on the iPad though, so if you’re on the same local network this could be a cool idea
I could not find this anywhere but anyone with a Presonus Faderport classic; The presonus faderport is included in the Control Surfaces in Reaper. But you have to power it down, then hold Stop button for 10 seconds. Until Output flashes. Release stop button. Press and hold Output button. Now the unit is in a mode that will talk to Reaper's faderport mode.
Hello, Do you know if it's possible to use OSC without a router, but rather using "create a network" on Mac ? I tried several times, but I did not succeed.
Halo, i just purchased presonus studiolive series iii and i ve been using Reaper for almost 2 years now, i cant find any tutorial of matching both, the studiolive as control surface... any help are welcome. thank you
been trying to get this to work for over an hour. The ipad controls nothing on the screen. i ve gone over this video again and again to try and figure it out
Hey mate I have the Yamaha 01v96i desk but I can't control reaper with it. It works with cubase and protools like a charm, but not with reaper... Any idea or link to find a solution will be very appreciated. Cheers!
I followed this video's directions but could not get my iPad to control Reaper (although changes in Reaper did cause very slow changes to occur in TouchOSC). Turning off Windows 10 Defender Firewall solved the problem and now changes to one immediately results in changes to the other. I'm running Webroot's Firewall but this does not cause any problems.
HELP! In Reaper control surface prefs, I can't change the "Local IP" number. I don't know what I'm doing wrong or what step I'm missing. Can you help? Or is there a way I can contact you directly?
For that browser mode, do you need to be connected to the web for this to work? Can it be done via LAN/Offline? My studio is in the middle of nowhere sadly
hi, i just purchase Presonus Studiolive 24 series iii, plan to use it as fader control and so on on Reapers, is it working the same way as in your video?i ask Presonus forum but non one seems to know how to set it up in Reapers as most of presonus users use Studio one. thanks for all of your video it s really helpful!
i have done everything as said in the official youtube video how to connect x touch one with reaper...but once i open reaper an window is telling me < error opening devices, the following midi inputs can not be opened- x touch one, the following midi outputs can not be opened-x touch one>..i assume it has something to do with x touch one firmware update maybe or midi in reaper...i tried to update the firmware but its an walk through hell on pc... i downloaded this small programm midi ox but i dont understand a shit about sysex or midi or how to do it..can somebody help me or walk me through how do that update or do i actually need to do firmware update at all..maybe something else is wrong...i just dont get why is this window message appearing in reaper
You had me right up to the point of MIDI Input. Put WHAT midi inputs? I have a Zoom R16. Selected OSC, going step by step then you threw me a curveball. Nothing comes up on the MIDI input so what do I put?? No idea. NOT a tutorial for a beginner
Thank you for this vidéo !!!! I'm happy to use the OSC remote, but there is a lot of fonctions that don't work. By exemple, there is no feedback to the iPad (when I mouve fader on Daw), it don't move on TouchOSC. Another exemple, when I muted a track with OSC, it's impossible to demute it. Do you have an explanation for that ? (I hope you understand me, i'm french ;) ) Thank you very much
@@adamsteelproducerHey you are the best !!!! My Device IP adress was not correct, that was because OSC was only working one way. Now, it's ok. Thank you, thank you thank you !!!!
Good question. As in save the reaper project? I don’t know how the specific reaper pages work, but since you can choose and make your own, I’ll bet you can. Best bet is to ask in the reaper forums, those guys are great at helping out in these specific casss
@@adamsteelproducer yeah just to save the project... My laptop freezes sometimes so I need it. I know it is possible to edit the html of those pages and customize your own, but I don't really "speak" html haha
How do you setup TouchOSC in reaper with a wired connection? I don’t want any latency. Can I use a usb hub to connect my iPad to my audio interface (via usb to midi)? Or do I plug into my laptop via usb?
@@adamsteelproducer I thought that I could use touchosc as a drum pad to trigger sounds in reaper. Would there be no latency even if I'm doing it wirelessly?? And can I use my audio interface plugged into my computer for my guitar and wirelessly use this in reaper at the same time?
Latency over local networks is low enough not to be an issue, it’s only when you get to internet connections that latency can be a problem. And yes you can use your guitar since osc is only a control method and doesn’t affect anything else
@@adamsteelproducer Awesome thank you for the help! I downloaded the OSC bridge and plugged my iPad in via usb into my computer and set it up as a midi device and did exactly what I needed!
I was able to get Web browser interface working but to no avail, Touch osc, set up per the video settings will only control the iPad, meaning press play etc on the computer keyboard and the iPad reacts, not the other way around. All I'm trying to do is arm my drum tracks, press record and stop from behind the drum set. Until I find a solution, this is my only option. Thanks for the vid!
This might seem crazy but I lost the arrange wave panel I went to options and rest from layout but still does not go back to the defeat set up. I was going to buy it but if there no fix. I have even uninstalled it and reinstall it got the same problem it just remembers the last setting.. I just want to see the waveform to edit.
You mentioned we can use this with not only a phone or tablet, but another Laptop. It seems to me the laptop would NEED to have a touch screen though? A lot of modern laptops don't have this. So we wouldn't want to just go out and purchase a Laptop, without knowing about touchscreen. No?
@@adamsteelproducer OK, I thought if we want to use a mouse, we can use a mouse on the main computer screen, but some of us we want an outboard device, with real knobs and sliders, instead of mouse. That's why I came here. But now, you are opening up our minds to get past old school analogue control surfaces and upscale to touchscreen surfaces. Wireless, and using fingers instead of mouse? Maybe, I missed the point! LOL! Sorry, I got a Boomer Brain!
My band has a mix of android and iPhone user and trying to use the web interface by going to the ip address on an iPhone is the biggest pain in the ass. Does anyone have any tips for forcing an iPhone to actually go to the ip address?
I may be an idiot. Actually, I know I am haha. Can someone point me where to find the preset he said he had in the description for the headphone monitor preset? Any help would be amazing!
great video. I do use these features a lot. Note to the mid-role sponsors: i will never ever buy your stuff since you are disrupting the following of interesting material.
Setting up monitor mixes seems really tricky... was interested in the template you had made to use as a starting point. You mentioned a link would be in the description but I haven't been able to locate it. Is there a link on your website? Thanks!
Get on the forums! I can’t think of any good reason why that would be the case, could be a fixable bug or some extra config needed? The reaper forums are usually good for helping out
I use the mouse all the time. What if I want to be away from the computer position? Like if I’m at the drum kit or over at the piano or near the guitar amps? A mouse doesn’t help me then
No, no, no no! Don`t do that to me! I use Samplitude for my DAW since 2003. Now I get envy about Reaper? Right now I stick to my beloved Icon QCon Pro X but if I think about it.....What an outdated way of DAW-controling it actualy is.
Web Browser doesn’t work, now watching this tutorial lol. I miss the days when musicians created music and left all this stuff to the glorious men in white lab coats,70s prog rock on!
