One time he actually got stuck in between the bars of the wreck and couldn’t get out. My brain told me don’t go any where near him, but my heart felt sorry for him, so I went to free him with a Repulsion Canon. By all rights I should’ve died, but as soon as he was released, I went my way and he went his and we didn’t have anymore encounters after that.
@@alcxemy ghost leviathans arent scary at all imo, you always know when they are around you, but the reaper can creep up on you, especially in those murky waters or at night
Reaper roars definitely scare me more than either the Ghost Leviathan or the Sea Dragon can, and I don’t fully understand why. Sea Dragons are technically more dangerous since they eat Reapers for breakfast. But there’s something about the Reapers scream that makes me think, “this is Jurassic Park and I’m playing the lawyer who gets eaten by the Tyrannosaur.”
@@Sullyvar Grand Theft Auto. I am referring to some of the lines spoken by random civilians that sort of became a meme. Just search "GTA I want to apologize" and you'll see what I mean.
It is in fact possible to kill Reapers with the Perimeter Defense system - but expect to use at least two Ion Power Cells doing it. I recommend you have the Mortal Kombat theme playing when you attempt this.
The easiest way to kill him, or so I’ve heard, is to hit him point blank in the face with a Stasis Rifle, then drop some gas pods in front of his face and make sure to get far enough away where the poison doesn’t effect you, but close enough you can make sure the Stasis bubble gets renewed regularly so he can’t swim away. You’ll know he’s dead when he keels over on his side. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone with a weak constitution, because I did something similar with the Stasis Rifle and a knife, and it took forever. There’s no reward for it, and indeed there’s a little punishment because the Leviathans don’t respawn. The game would be meaningless without them, as they are a villain, a worthy adversary. Someone to get your heart pumping every now and then so you’re unlikely to get bored.
When you enter reaper territory on your seamoth. Reapers PDA: there is a seamoth with a perimeter defense unit. Are you sure whatever your doing is worth it.
I’d probably chase after it in the Seamoth and keep zapping. Like, ‘How do you like that? Doesn’t feel too nice being on the receiving end, huh, buddy??’
i did that too. full charge each hit too(hold down the fire button to charge the shot to do huge amounts of damage). i hit it about 4 times with fully charged shots. and that got it to f&ck off (had to censor because youtube handles content like a little b!tch)
For anyone who doesn't know, you can charge that. Just select the perimiter defence and hold down click/button/whatever and you'll hear a charging sound and the button will fill up, then release and it delivers a devistating shock. Sucks down the power like no tomorrow though
An ion power cell helps out with the energy drain. tbh though, you aren’t likely to be using your seamoth much by the time you get those unless you found one in a time capsule early on.
Alternatively, if you're overly cautious/scared like me, and have an abundance of patience, you can build a series of very small bases in strategic locations (one foundation, one multipurpose room, one scanner room) with a scanner room with either maxed out range, or nearly maxed out range with a speed upgrade. Doing this (together with the HUD chip), you don't even need to build that many "Scanner Waystations" (as I call them) to perfectly track the movements of every leviathan in the regions where they naturally appear. Then it's just a matter of knowing where the Reapers are and *not* being there. As a bonus, if you only build these bases over thermal vents and power them with Thermal Plants, you never have to refuel them, and can also stock each one with a single grow bed filled with Bulbo Trees. Now (so long as you replant every tree you harvest) you have infinite oxygen, food, and water everywhere you go, and can zip to any resource you're looking for.
I haven't found the need for a scanner room. I'm probably missing something really useful but I took it down just to save on a little power consumption
@@JesusChrist-vq6lk You don't really need to worry about power consumption when you have limitless power! Unless your bases are enormous power hogs (and no base following my "waystation" template ever will be) two thermal plants will do it. A full grow bed next to a bioreactor will also work. I spent most of Below Zero just stuffing 4 Chinese potatoes in my bioreactor every hour or so (or upon returning to the base, if the power was out), because I didn't know where to find thermal plants but *did* find Chinese potatoes and some of those tiny grow pots (and also a Nuclear reactor, but those things are pointless imo).
@@purplecowadoom you guys are out there doing really cool sh*t while I'm too scared to explore and just built my first base, 5 hours in. Spend those 5 hours collecting huge amounts of titanium and copper. Too scared to find Diamond, do you know where I can safely find one? I can't progress.
I've been intentionally vague up to this point, but I also eventually looked stuff up after doing everything I could as well, so... Approach the QEP from the south (as you would after getting the pick-up message from the Sunbeam), and go explore the mountain caves. That'll get you all the early diamonds, gold, and lithium you need, without having to fight anything more than Cave Crawlers. The other major ingredient you need is Magnetite. You might be thinking you need to go to a biome with Reapers to get that too. You would be wrong. Go to the Jelly Shroom biome (entrances in the Blood Kelp biome), build one of my scanner bases over the geysers, scan for Magnetite, and swim low (under the caps of the giant mushrooms). You *probably* wont have trouble with the Crabsnakes, so long as you swim low. There isn't anywhere *near* as much Magnetite there as there is in other areas, but you don't need that much to get through the game anyway.
@@gettingshotsomeonesgonnapa8635 I also just started and scared of deep ocean, but i mustered up courage to try n explore, i found diamond in the cave system in the island where the gun system is, go inside the island and find a cave, inside the cave theres a little body of water u can go in, theres ruby and sometimes diamond too in there. Goodluck
When I just got my seamoth, I accidentally went into the dunes and got the shit scared out of me. There was also this time where I was showing my stepbrother it, and it got me and my seamoth lived on 9 hp. That was scary
TBH the game is not even hard or as if you need all the advanced things to get past enemies, bar environmental restrictions. Most enemy aggro ranges are ridiculously low, even for the reaper which supposedly says that if you can hear it, it can see you, but according to the wiki it's just fluff text and doesn't reflect actual AI behavior. And you can dodge leviathans with a seaglide even. Their turn speeds are horrible, and they're actually not much faster than the seamoth itself, and because of their tendency to only chase you for a while and give up, if you get aggroed, turn 180 and run in the opposite direction, almost 99% chance they won't catch you, unless you got caught out really close. The game basically has no difficulty really. The only place you might struggle is the lava corridors. In fact among all the dangers, the most dangerous ones are probably bonesharks. They can melt seamoths pretty quickly, and can scratch the cyclops quite badly if they attack in sufficient numbers. And since they're quite common in their spawn zones, they can become a real menace quickly, plus they have quite big aggro ranges too. They're quite fast, and unlike leviathans have lightning fast turns. Otherwise this basically amounts to a walking simulator in terms of actual dangers to you. Having a 0 death playthrough is quite easy once you know this. With that being said, I am never going anywhere near leviathans. Fuck that shit, I still piss my pants even if I know I can render them harmless. Too much fear of the deep.
@@stankobarabata2406 ok you had me thinking “this mans a generic gamer asshole on the internet Saying stuff like ‘darksouls is ez.’ Gtfo” then I saw the final part and was like, nvm same dude
I really love the detail of how after you use the defense system, there's a short animation of the reaper shaking its head back and forth like it's shaking off the attack, it's so cool
Does anybody remember the video of that one guy who had perimeter defenses but he never used them because he was too busy shitting in his pants to use it
I didn't know he could get you right there. I figured I'd be safe because I assumed he wouldn't go through the metal beams. I was watching him a bit and just got scared and left. Luckily I didn't stick around lol
I'm not so much scared by the reapers as I am annoyed that he flung my seamoth 700 metres away from me into the void. Chasing after it with a ghostie on my tail was not fun.
I Just Want to share something, I was so scared of reapers that I only went to aurora using the cyclops, but the karma is there, I left my ship running and it ran out of battery when I got back, so i left with the seamoth to get power cell got attacked by a reaper
Cyclops doesn't usually consume power even when the engine is still running. Lights and oxygen doesn't consume power at all. Maybe you had the silent mode on, as that inexplicably consumes power even when the ship isn't moving.
Here's a helpful tip: you can charge the SPDS by holding the button. Longer charge means larger blast radius, at the cost of increased power drain and cooldown. Good for deflecting potential threats, such as the case in this video.
I'm now really creeped it gets that close to the entrance. I've used it twice and only once did I see a reaper in the distance so I guess I've been lucky
The best feeling is when u get the prawn with grappling so you just go back to the aurora to pay back a visit to the reaper there, and teach him a lesson. Especially if paired with a stasis rifle for extra bullying
Reaper without perimeter defence: 60% damage and you will have to spend either too much time out in the open repairing your seamoth risking attack, or take another risk and gun it out of the crash site potentially exploding your seamoth and leaving you vulnerable Reaper with perimeter Defence: probably 7% damage on a well timed shot, you may want to get out to top up your seamoth but in all honesty you should be fine if you are even above 50% hp.
I was playing subnautica and someone else was watching and told me to go to the Aurora so they could see the Reaper. I only had the seaglide but I still went... I got corned by a Reaper it couldn't fit in the space but I was stuck and losing oxygen, so I baited it and swam away while it chasing me they were saying "OH I WASN'T EXPECTING THAT TO HAPPEN". And I wondered what they did expect. I survived but it was scary.
But it takes a ton of energy, if you are going to the crash zone it’s ok because it’s a short trip, but going to the dunes and doing a full emp blast could cost you a seamoth
I love the defense system! Everytime i see a reaper i try to run away but once i know he is coming straight for me i turn to face him and ready the defense system, shouting "COME AND GET IT THEN, FUCKER!" releasing the electricity just when he is about to catch me, its fucking great lmao
Reaper Leviathan: One of the strongest and scariest creatures in the entire game, the cause of many people's PTSD and other horrors. Also Reaper Leviathan when hit by anything: *Mom come pick me up im scared pls*
Ladies and Gentleman, yesterday was the first time I encountered a Reaper... it was horrifying since it was pitch black and I also screamed like a little bltch. But I am now working on upgrading my sea moth. Wish me luck (This vid was lowkey kinda helpful)
When I first saw the reaper leviathan my seat was wet and started running. Then when I was geared up guess who started running this time? But I got too cocky and went behind the ship which ended up making me regret my life choices.
@@eeeegggg um...its a Jim Ross quote Scalded I believe means burned by hot water? Run like a scalded dog. Auto correct didn't stop me so I assume I spelled it right, or it isn't an actual word lol
Leviathans can be relocated to another biome if they're hit with the shock in the right place. I've displaced a reaper from the crash zone into the kelp forest, and also a ghost leviathan in the underground river
How do you have the best tank, repulsion cannon, moonpool and modification station before you went to the Aurora?? 🤔 Edit: and not to mention the modules 😯
I was always scared of losing my mk2 depth module (soon to be 3) I started playing 3 days ago as it became one of my free Playstation plus games But now I know I can survive a reaper.... I hope xd
How do so many people have the reaper attack them from that far away? I have to be close to 50m away from it to even notice me. I don’t know if they updated the game that changed this or I’ve just been getting leviathans that really don’t care about me until I get too close.
After going to the blood kelp, somehow im not scared of reapers anymore, those fuckin warper and crabsquid bastards do just as much damage but with added screen effects and throwing me out of an sealed space
THANK GOD IT RUNS AWAY, I LITERALLY GOT EVERY SINGLE SEAMOTH UPGRADE TO ENTER THE AURORA AND IM SCARED Edit: I have made it in successfully with no reapers
