I umported a track from another DAW. When I hit play, I cannot hear the track. I'm new to Reaper and no idea why I can't hear it. I have set up the track monitoring in the Options/Sound Device, so the problem is not there. Cheers
Thanks a lot! This was a major improvement from takes, which could be extremely messy when having many takes, especially if they're not having the same content rhythmically. That was the absolute last point that PT had an advantage over Reaper, now Avid can officially close down, missed by no one.
My thoughts exactly!! The only thing that slowed my switch from the unimaginable hell that is Pro Tools to Reaper was the comping feature. This blows PT away and Myk’s uber clear explanation makes it immediately usable. I can already hear the tumbleweeds blowing through AVID HQ.
The whole Reaper experience feels like scifi after protools - there you go, sir :-), and many thanks for helping us out with this beast! @@LetsTalkAboutReaper
Hey, legend! And just to think, yesterday I had no clue how it worked 🤣 I just read the manual a few more times and it clicked, then I thought, I CAN BEAT KENNY TO A REAPER7 VIDEO 🥹
Apologies if this has already been covered in the comments, but if you've already got a comp cut up in the Reaper 6 takes structure, you can move it over into fixed lanes by going to the action menu and selecting explode selected tracks to fixed lanes retaining existing comp (or something like that). This puts the existing take items into fixed lanes, creates a comp lane and puts your existing comp/cuts into that lane, leaving you where you were before you converted to fixed lanes. In the track I tried doing this with, it didn't do a perfect job. One cut didn't seem to come over correctly, but in general it worked great. Long-term, I think this system is going to work much better.
Mike: I'm an old-timer trying to re-learn Reaper after a 10-year break. Thank you for the rational, well-structured, and well-delivered tutorial. I'm starting to get it.
I'm still using Reaper 5.96 version and not thinking about to switch. I'm very happy to stick the first time with reaper, because now is all automated and works great. Reaper has 64-bit internal mixing depth when PT was on 32. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think at the same time there was no vst-support😂😂😂. I love the White tie theme. Why do I tell all the secrets 🤐😉
Mike, I'm pretty new to Reaper, but I love your channel! You also crack me up! I came from Cubase, Logic, & Nuendo. Used them for years! But I love Reaper the most! Stuff to me make more seance & so much easier then other DAW's! I know most of the basic's but trying to learn all the shortcuts and where stuff is! Thanks for all lessons & updates! I will buy you coffee soon!
I must say, as a new user of Reaper (or any DAW), aged 60, this video was a bit over my head. But it was worth my while watching your video, just to hear you sing 😉
That is quite the honor, although there are better teachers in my opinion. At any rate, thank you so much, I do appreciate the occasional encouragement, especially since I've been a ghost for about a month.
Thank for the video Myk. As usual, the Reaper devs really delivered with the new functionality, but also as usual, it's not as intuitive as Logic or Studio One's swipe comping. I've seen lots of questions on how to set it up and use it. So Reaper continues its rich tradition of being a crazy powerful DAW that one has to dig in to. We get no free lunches, but we have a number of talented content creators to help guide our way. Kudos.
I was pretty happy with the old way of comping, but most people seemed to struggle with it. This makes it easier to see what's going on I suppose, and I love that the "comp" has it's own dedicated area.
Nice! I love the video and I really love the new process. I'd have loved it even more had I known last night to turn on Fixed Item Lanes before tracking multiple takes. But I know it now.
Amazing tutorial, just found you out, and you are one of the more clear I've explainers I've seen... perfect pace and perfect explanations.... hope to see more from you.... thank you!!!
I like and use the old way too, but can see some real benefits to this method. Multiple comps with no splits on the source items is a bit of a big deal
@@LetsTalkAboutReaper Damn right! Nothing comes close! Always end up behind on updates, because I forget to download after my sessions. Guess I could just do it when I see the notifications. I mean…it only takes like 3 minutes after all. Joys of ADHD 😂
Excellent video again Myk! It looks like you did beat Kenny to the punch! I teach an audio engineering course at the university I am employed. I show your videos (along with Kenny's) periodically. This looks like an excellent candidate to show my students very soon. Thanks for the content and the amazing work you do!
I'm looking forward to digging deeper and figuring out some of the new features. The option to have different task focused action lists is pretty exciting. I believe you can have multiple sets of mouse modifiers as well, but I'm still reading up on these features and testing
Thanks for the video. It was very helpful, and I didn't see a video from Kenny yet on this subject. I did see one on FX containers however. I am now a subscriber.
I don't participate in the betas because I"m a normie, now, and I want to be surprised when the release drops. Gotta say that I've been waiting a long time for swipe comping and I'm liking this implementation so far! You could do something similar with cycling through takes in traditional comping but this very cool, too.
I've been looking for a video on version 7 since I got the notice it was released. I do believe you're the first with an edited video (there are a couple livestreams of people putzing around).
Thank you! I was trying to find the shortcut for navigating the track lanes so I can map it to my controller but could not find it in the action menu. Thanks for showing which command it is in the action menu!!!!
Yay Myk knows....now me also smarter. I really like that new option. Will be a while until I do get used to the new stuff....anyway I am still at 1% knowledge on everything in reaper... *sings lalalalala*
Thanks for this! I’ve been looking forward to this for quite a while - I really dislike that old comping always split the media items. This way makes way more sense to me.
Thanks for the video! I have your "Editing Drums" course, and I guess this will speed up the process quite a bit, it will be interesting to see your "adjustments" to your method 🤓👍
Thanks for the demo and explanation. I was wondering if you have already recordings with traditional takes, you can continue working with them with this new system. Convert them to this system I mean
Really good video (including your endearing deadpan self-deprecation ;-) Tried it in Reaper alongside the video. I really like it, very easy to use. So far am impressed by Reaper 7 features - that's a good thing because I'm still trialing the software (coming from Mixcraft) and had misgivings about the UI / useability.
I'll try this. I'm used to working with takes, but this is much more manageable for comping takes. Before reaper 7, I would have to do lots of splits + crop to active takes actions, to get a comp. I guess once you're happy with the comp, you'd probably glue the swipe comps takes together for a new media item, as one would do with traditional takes? cheers Myk.
You win! (Reaper Blog got a couple of shorts out first, but this was the first full length...) But seriously - thanks for the explanation here. This will be very useful!
Awesome info as always. I don't know if you use and Heda-Scrips, but I found the track inspector and templates to be very useful. Reaper 7 broke everything Heda-Scrips with this error "bad binary format (version mismatch)". Really a problem going forward.
I liked the sound of it, glad to see it in action! I'm going to have to play with it. I'm so used to takes and comping that way, but this looks like it might be faster and neater once I get good at it.
Hey Mike, great job Love it, very excited to play with us. Just wondering can something like this be set up for a customer action and activate with the button. Thanks.
Bro, I've been watching the world being set up for the next World War, and I didn't even notice there was a new version out! This will be my first purchase of Reaper. Finally!
