Rear Defroster Bypass. Don’t let your back window shatter!

In this video I show you how I bypassed my rear glass defroster to prevent it from the infamous rear glass shattering from using the rear glass defroster. Bypassing the defroster gives you the option to still use your heated mirrors but not chance your back glass breaking when using it. This Bypass will help save your back glass saving you money and time.

Why would the back glass break if rear defroster doesn't work? It makes no sense. Please explain.

I have a 2012 f150 with the back glass defrost not working. I’ve watched your video and others that bypass the back glass so the mirrors still have defrost. Some use a device to step down the voltage but I see didn’t. Just wanted to make sure you haven’t had any more issues.

$0.20 in wire and terminals is far cheaper than $800 for a window 🤣

Those trucks have sudden trans line failures. The fittings break suddenly. Not that common but catastrophic if it happens. No warning.

@@Higgsgarage Yes I have an 11 Platinum 6.2L. bought hose from NAPA and the fitting broke with a bit of force when tried to take it apart. I have no crimps or fittings now, rubber goes right to the metal one piece tube.

I have done some just as precocious but it seems like these trucks have a lot of the same faults.

@mrstl3000 that’s a good question. I’m familiar with it on the sliding ones only. I do not believe the solid back windows have heater grids in them but I could be wrong.

@@Higgsgarage I have full glass with rear defrost button don't see any grids in window though however it could have been replaced already from a sliding style

That button will also turn on the defrost feature on your mirrors if they are heated.

What years are these having trouble? I see yours is a early 13ish. Have they addressed this in newer models?

I am not positive on all the years but I do believe it’s a 12th gen issue. 09-14 is what I believe but might fact check. Me on that.

What was your original issue with the light not coming on?

I am not entirely sure… I never diagnosed it because I wouldn’t use it in fear of the glass breaking. But, the button/light work flawlessly now so I am thinking it has some issue with the back heating element.
