I did it without buying the mounting kit. I cut the paper away from factory speakers and then used tin snips to cut the plastic from the inside of the ring until it looked like the mounts you purchased. Then I installed new speakers with long screws into modified mounts. Worked great on all 4 doors and no expense.

very good and easy to follow video. since I didn’t wanna mess with the door latch and wasn’t installing any Dyna matt or anything, once i rotated the door panel i just did the speaker and took like 2 mins. i had everything pre staged and ready to go so the install took about 20 mins total for both rear doors on my 2010 Crew cab silverado. i was being extra cautious of the door panel cause i didn’t wanna break any of the clips. 👍🏽

thanks guys, I just replaced one of the rear speakers in a 2007 ext. cab. Had to modify speaker mount and hammer the door hole larger to accommodate a bigger speaker, but well worth the time and effort. Just got the truck and the rear speakers weren't working - they really are crap ones from the factory. Again, thanks for showing how easy it is.

Do you happen to know where the wires to the rear speakers run? I need to tap into them to hook up a LOC unit to add a sub but don't have a way to run the wires if they have to go into the door.

What size speaker are those kickers? Don’t feel like making modifications for ordering the size the bracket tells me and it end up not fitting... seems like a common problem

I'm gonna say it's a good video but in my opinion that aftermarket bracket sucks, it leaves a gap between the speaker and door panel, you and mod the old speaker to accept the new speaker and it covers the gap better.

Just use foam weatherstripping and mount between the door and bracket, and in between the bracket and speaker.

I have a 2007 GMC Yukon and none of the door speakers work like they don’t get power my Pilar tweeters work tho you know anything that could cause it I checked the radio fuses already

Chris Arnold If the rear doors use a 6.5 speaker it should be the same.

+2CarPros Are you sure? isn't the rear speaker in the 07-13 extd cab 5 1/4" with a large rectangle bracket? You can do a 6 1/2" back there but you have to mod the existing bracket to do so or fab your own adopting the specs from the stock bracket. there is a video here showing how to do so.

chicago guy 6.5" speakers for front and rear, if its a crew cab... I believe 5.25" rear speaker on ext cabs... 4 ohm speakers stock,not sure of the wattage

I cant release the door panel clip from the side where the manual lock is. Its tight. How did you pop the clip free from door on top by manual lock? I got the rest broke free except that one? Im installing the speaker with that clip still connected. I believe I can do it with panel on.

Got speaker installed. I got to figure out whats keeping the top of the door panel to not fully seat on the inner window sweep of door. The manual door lock cover is sitting higher than it should. Unless something is wedged inside the door panel. I unclipped all the clips on the door panel except the one I was having issues with on the top right of door panel just below the manual lock area.I was able to pull the panel away from the door enough to remove and install speaker. All the clips snapped back in with no problem. I will work on it another time.

Can you just screw the speaker onto the door ? Because i used the same bracket but when the bass is up it makes the door panel vibrate creating a bad sound maybe because the bracket makes it stick out to much ?

William Taboada Dynamat between the speaker assembly and metal door will be your friend against rattling.

Well it will just help with the quality of the sound and it could possibly rattle between the plastic mounting bracket and the metal door.

Corey497 Nope didn't go with those, I dynomated the complete door for a sealed sound. This is my personal truck and it sounds great even with a stock sterero. Shakes the doors...a very little amount because of how well sealed it is. As to the " foam padding " to prevent vibration. I went with dynomat over lap and then installed the speaker as seen at 4:16. Very fun name you came up though, a first time someone has used it. I give you +1 for creativity.

The bracket doesn't even fit. Just ordered everything in and had to use old bracket to make a makeshift setup for new speakers ! 😑

If you want to cut the doors sheet metal anything is possible.

When the door fills up with water after a hard rain. It’s gonna kill the speaker.

1EVILZ06 if your door is filling with water after a hard rain then you have big problems. I have done speaker installs after days of hard rain and inside the door was just damp. Some rain gets in but not enough to affect an aftermarket speaker.
