Project Racing Green is my 1989 Rover Mini Racing Green that has had an official John Cooper conversion fitted by John Cooper Garages. The standard 998cc engine is boosted from 41BHP to 60BHP thanks to the engine upgrades. The upgrades include a polished and ported Cylinder head with enlarged valves, LCB exhaust system, Roller tip rockers, and Twin HS2 SU Carburettors. The interior enhancements include walnut door capping, walnut dashboard, alloy door furniture, and luxurious John Cooper emblem full leather GTS recliner seats.

Great work Keith as you always do. This will be another sweet Mini to have in your fleet. Nothing better than doing the job yourself. Could you elaborate on the painting method, time between coats, equipment etc?

Cheap e-bay gun for the filler primer with a 1.7mm tip and about 20 minutes between the 3 coats and then 16hrs before sanding. Debilbis GTI Pro lite with a 1.4mm tip for the base coat and about 20 mins between each of the 3 coats and then about 1hr before clear coat. Devilbis GTI Pro Lite with a 1.2mm tip for the clear and about 15 mins between 3-4 coats. All sprayed at around 30 psi, air dry at around 15-20 degrees

Great job, kieth. Interested to see the costing having just had a professional job in my racing green(I was not brave enough to do it myself). I follow closely as I have to rebuild from the empty shell and can't remember half of it coming off so your videos are super helpful.

I'd be super worried about rust in the seams of that rear end valance. I know it'd be extra work but i'd be unpicking that rear valance to check it's clean on the inside...Fingers crossed for you.

Maybe if it was a daily drive and used in all weathers I would be more concerned. The rear valance has been on the car 20+ years from what I can see and with the type of use I use my cars for, it will be a very long time before anything rusts through.

If you get a wee chance. My mini is all painted now except for the side strips which ive mucked up a few times. Either not enough coverage in all areas. Or they fall over under air pressure. Any tips apprecaited.

The seam strips? I'm dreading them, they are very difficult to get right even using just a rattle can.

They've always been a pain for me but the last ones i did i cut up some old brake pipe and made a C shape so they could hang off something, then pushed them into the seam strip at the top and bottom. It allows you to hang them from something, then hold the bottom to stop them swinging around. Worked for me and allowed me to get reasonable coverage and a better finish.
