I had to figure out the difference between mind hunger and real hunger and thirst . It was a task and is still an everyday struggle for me. I am a decade out. If you don’t deal with the mind hunger you won’t be successful. Soup helped me round out hunger in the beginning.
Yes, we can only provide generalized advice on here and always urge patients to schedule an appointment with their bariatric care team for further insight into any health concerns.
OK so now I'm day 17 (just gone midnight here). I've just got over all those days in between where ive horrific pain under my ribs and towards the middle and back of my body... could have been kidneys... gallstones... who knows... i couldnt function in my daily life... I barely drank more than half a cup of anything most days I was in so much pain... Its eased off yesterday and today... I'm nof starving anymore, I find sipping on the protein drinks all day help with energy now. I tried my first food today, about 6 hours ago I had sieved baked beans.... like pureed then sent through a sieve to remove the skins.. I had 3 tablespoons and took half an hour to eat them..... tiny bit at a time.... followed the rules about not drinking before and after etc... so now I'm wondering if I can just stick to liquid stage because it's been 6 hours and my stomach is still hurting. What the hell have I done to my body. I don't even ever want to eat again in my life.
@@HeyTexasItsMe i can tell you that what helped me was ordering just the soup broth from a hispanic restaurant. I also had 1/4 cup of black beans but just the liquid. I would boil the beans in the bag and cooked thm myself
I'm about to have surgery in 3 months so everything that you are put on video is helping me to learn more about the surgery thank you so much for taking the time out to do this videos
Hunger is way more complex than simply how full the stomach is. People have a complex psychological relationship with food, many hormones involved. Also things like carbohydrates reduce stress hormones. If people are used to eating lots of carbs, but physically can't anymore there's going to be an adjustment period. People will have to learn new, holistic strategies for the reduction of stress like walking or meditation Also, if you're used to social eating, and having a big meal with friends and family, you're going to have to deal with smaller portions and less food intake
This has been a life saver. I am struggling so much right now but this video has literally answered all my questions namely "what's wrong with me, why am I hungry?" Upping my protein is going to be my big goal that's for sure. I've stalled for about six weeks but that's protein related plus not eating enough or rather too much of the wrong things so I'm on it.
i have the opposite issue.. I had a VSG ( sleeve ) 8 years ago and the morning i was put under for my surgery is the last time I felt anything even close to hunger.. I can go 24 hours and never give a thought to eating.. my hunger just vanished.... i know there is a honeymoon phase that lasts 6 month-2 years but mine never seemed to end.
2 years out from Gastric Sleeve. Protein and hydration, Fiber all very aware of the need, trying to Gerd meds to see if that cures this very physical intense hunger I have almost daily. Is it hormones? Can I have Leptin levels checked? It’s definitely not head hunger, it’s a strong physical hunger that does not subside with proteins, soups, any food really. Help!
I would agree with you but your talking as if we can intake more food. We have no stomach and sometimes it’s painful just to sip a second of water let alone broth. The hunger pangs are real and when you do try your nauseous or taking meds making you more sick. I think maybe talking about what types of foods can help after surgery because your narrative sounds like more for folks who maybe a year out or something because it definitely don’t fit those right after surgery.
She literally did that and what do you mean "after surgery" that ranges from day one right through to years after the surgery. If you are on liquids or softball stages you should have those foods listed to you by your provider. If you are past that then adding protein powder to certain meals will definitely help you. I have started adding extra protein and fibre to my coffee in the morning and it has killed my hunger and cravings. I will say that it is hard to begin with, I was extremely low on protein to start with and used to get ill because of it but now I'm able to take in more, I've had to change habits though, that's very important.
I am going through this right now. It’s been almost a month since my surgery and I have been starving all day every day. Hunger pangs, stomach growling. I can’t sleep. I wake up and go to sleep wanting to cry because of how hungry I am. I’m supposed to be physically active but how can I be when I have no energy because I’m hungry? The doctors and Dietician seem to think this is all in my head but I literally record my stomach growling loudly. I wish I never had this surgery.
Hi, we recommend eating protein first to ensure you fill up on food that will keep you full for longer periods of time. We also would encourage you to start logging your food intake so you can have an idea as to what may be causing the hunger and weight loss stall.
I’m 4 months out and I’m sooo hungry now😢. I catch myself eating alot for the past 3 days. Of course I being eating alot of protein but I’m kinda worried 😞
Hi, we would recommend scheduling an appointment with your bariatric care team and dietitian. They can help you evaluate what may be causing this hunger. Try to keep a daily food log a week or so before your appointment so they can have a better understanding of what you are eating. I good app to track this on is MyFitnessPal
I'm curious what am appropriate meal size would be 6 months or more post surgery? I am 4 months post op and sometimes I can eat a bit larger meal and sometimes I can't. I can eat a bit larger meal as the day goes on. Usually in the morning I struggle to get down one egg and maybe a piece of sausage.
Before the surgery I had severe hunger and being hungry the whole time and having no satiety, during a healthy meal plan the hunger where even more severe because the appropriate portions weren’t enough for me and while being severely hungry feeling starvation I was always waiting for the next meal and the meals never made me feel full. I had to eat big amounts of food to feel full and had satiety for longer, even healthy food but the calorie intake was higher of what i needed even I always went to the gym as nowadays it didn’t help much with weight management and also PMS made my hunger even worst literally starving even more severe and was even harder. I finally had vertical sleeve gastrectomy and during the PMS I use semaglutide for 10 days only. Self control and appetite control it is “normal” now unless I am on my PMS period when I have to use semaglutide 😢 I have vertical sleeve gastrectomy and what I do it’s having small meals 5 times per day and 2 light snacks, no more of 180cal each one, clean food and healthy options with low calories and I watch to be on 1200cal per day. That is how I manage to control of hunger and cravings and it is not really easy. I count the calories and the macro nutrients. And I exercise 4 to 5 times one hour and weight lifting. I am 1.60mts and 47kg
I'm 1 year post-op since I had Gastric Sleeve Weight Loss surgery, and I have lost roughly 80lbs. I am 5' 3" tall, and I currently weigh 138.6 lbs. I have been feeling very tired and weak and dizzy lately. I tend to seesaw quite often between feeling super hungry at times and then other times feeling hardly hungry at all, but most of the time I feel as though I eat to much so when I eat I try to remember not to eat as much. I work 9 hours a day Mon-Fri with weekends off and have to get up around 5 am each day, but because I'm always feeling so tired, even when waking up, I normally drink 1 of the 30g Cafe Latte Premier Protein Drinks that has caffeine equal to one cup of coffee in it first thing in the morning and then another one later in the day as well as 2-3 of the Peach Mango with green tea Celsius live Fit drinks that are Fizz Free during the day. I was 134lbs nearly 3 weeks ago, and I hate the fact that I have now gained 4 pounds. I have started to adjust my daily goals to not go over 855 calories per day and I am logging everything now as well but its difficult sometimes when I dont fully know what I'm doing or what foods I should be eating, so I've come to the conclusion that when in doubt the lowest amount of everything is the best way to go. Now I make sure to check the nutrition labels on everything and only buy food that has less than 200 calories per serving size, less than 10g of fat with no more than 3.5g of it being saturated fat, less than 200mg of sodium and no more than 20-25 carbs and has at least 5-10g of protein or more.......sooo yea However, I'm hoping to get some more advice on this if anyone has some tips they'd like yo share and healthy food ideas that might help.
i was doing good when i started my calories at 1200 . Im 153 cm and 56kg. My dietion quite young and seem inexperience told me to drop my calorie to 1000 calories and 60gram of protein per days as she said 1200 is too much for me. i listen to her and now im starving. i walk for 14k everyday i walk back and forth for 1 hour or more everyday .now i go bck to 1200 calories and 90gram of protein. dont know why but sometime u have to listen to ur body. should i feedback abt her or she telling me the right info.
8 days PO My issue: when my stomach gurgles, I think it's signaling a cue to my brain that I need to eat. It's probably all behavioral and of course I'm only on a liquid diet at the moment.
We recommend drinking sugar-free liquids when this happens. Oftentimes you will find the desire to eat and the "hunger" will subside by drinking liquids
I hope things get better for you. Maybe try lower calorie protein and vegetable options for more weight loss. Walking more.. Lifting weights burns more calories the more muscle you have. Hope the best for you.
We recommend you begin tracking your food intake and discuss this with your bariatric care team. You might not be eating enough food which could cause the continuous hunger
When you have Bariatric Surgery, your stomach is made significantly smaller so what patients will find is that they aren't as hungry and can easily stay around 1200 calories/day
