Hi Nadine, nice to see an Aussie podcast, I think you need a medal for wearing any knitwear in Brisvegas, even cotton or bamboo. Although I do understand the ferocious aircon issue. I think it is actually a good idea to knit alpaca on bigger needles to make it a more airy fabric, esp in Brissie. As a knitter from the NSW/Vic border area I have found that a dense fabric made of alpaca can be too warm indoors and only wearable on days with an icy wind. I’m currently working on an Agnete cardigan, with alpaca and silk mohair so using a needle 2 sizes up to make an airier lighter fabric that I think will still cut the wind, but be snugly and still wearable around the house on a cold morning before I light the fire.

I was so interested to see your Rebel Cardigan in progress, because I'm currently working on my own (using Lion Brand Fisherman's Wool). This is my first cardigan, and I was so intimidated by the construction at the beginning I told myself not to read ahead, just go one section at a time and follow the instructions exactly. Now I'm past the split for the sleeves and just knitting away on the body, and I enjoy trying it on every few days just to enjoy the way the neck and shoulders look!

OooOooo I can't wait to hear about the finished object!! I was totally the same. I read a bit too far in the pattern at first and I had nothing but questions hahah. But once you split for sleeves it's so worth the effort. The shoulder fit is out of this world!

Hi Nadine! I also knit magic loop as small circularrs hurt my hands; for color work they'd be better, but I just knit those "inside out" on magic loop. You are ahead of me on the MKAL: I am still on Clue 2 😂I hope I can get it done at least by next October--I guess I am on your Team Rock. I had started the original clue 1, then lost interest with all the drama; but then picked it up again in December and started with the crochet granny square middle, which I really liked that Jana (from Finnish Knitting Stories/Kettuknits) had done and it meant that I could use all those small pieces of yarn that were frogged from my nearly-finished Clue 1 original.

Hello! I LOVED reading this comment. It made me feel a lot better to have another person on my team rock 😂 I really like your deadline of next October and I'm totally adopting that as my deadline as well. The crochet granny square middle is such a beautiful alteration, I'm sure your WIP is looking stunning (and will look even better in Oct 😉)

Hello from canada 🇨🇦 enjoying your podcast! Awesome job 😊 I tried the 9” chiagoos and 👎 . Wanted to say…if you’re using magic loop with a long cord, you can use 4” or 5” needles…..my favorite method

Hi Nadine, on sock knitting, take my Advice if 9” circulars are giving you pain, Stop using them, You will end up with Arthritis in your hands. I use Chiagoo Fixed circulars either 60cm or 80cm for socks, I only use Hand Dyed 75% Merino and 25% Nylon Yarn for my socks, I’ve never had a problem with Holes in the last 6 years I’ve been knitting them, also write down your sock measurements and the amount of rows between the Cuff / Heel and Heel / Toes for your sock as you go, you’ll get your own sock recipe ❤

I too get pain using 9" circs, well I used to, I have the same set as you, I always have mine set so my longer needle is on the right, shorter on the left, I knit my cuff and toes magic loop and the leg, heel flap, heel turn, gusset and foot portion of the sock with the 9" circs. It's purling which causes my hands to pain when using the 9" but I just push through it when doing the heel flap, I make sure to stretch out my hands often and take it slow when doing purl rows to help prevent the ache. Just found your channel today, hooked already! Hello from across the pond ❤️
@YourKnittingBestie
@YourKnittingBestie 4 месяца назад
Hello! The heel flap is the part which I found really tricky as well - especially the purling. Stretching out your hands frequently sounds like the key to success and something to remember for me! Thank you so much for your comment 🩷

The technique you mention about weaving in the ends as you go for the Geogradient was brilliant and changed my enjoyment of the knit for me completely! I’m a bit neurotic about ends too, and so as I was knitting back the next row, I tried to catch the floats for at least a couple of stitches, really locking them in. I will be using this technique for pretty much everything from now until I die…!
@YourKnittingBestie

Possibly sad story: I splurged on a strand of Quince & Co merino sport and a strand of Fyberspates Cumulus. But the Cumulus is a bit too heavy, and I can't get gauge for the smallest size (it's a gift). I'm giving it a shot, as I wanted something slightly bigger anyway, but it's a bit dense. 😐Fun knitting so far, at least!@@YourKnittingBestie

Hi, I am also making the Gradient Shawl and have just started clue 4. The drama was disappointing and put me off starting the project. So many podcasts were doing the mkal and showing their progress that if finally motivated me to start it after clue 2 came out. I wasn't a fan of clue 3 or 4 but decided that I want to finish this before the end of February. I also used that link to weave in my ends instead of Stephen's method. I would knit the first 3 stitches then pick up the loose thread and work it in. I recommend doing the swatch for clue 4. Out of the 6 row pattern, only that row with the dip stitch takes forever to get through.
@YourKnittingBestie
@YourKnittingBestie 4 месяца назад
Finishing before the end of February is a great goal - I wonder if I should try to do that too! I would love to have it off the needles and on my shoulders sooner rather than later. Thank you for the tip on clue 4! I'm excited for you that you're so close to the end - I hope you love the FO :)

Love your socks and cardi! You are ahead of me with your Westknits shawl - I'm on Clue One of the 2022 shawl! What yarn are you using? You can spit splice to join if it's 100% wool. Be aware that the Arne and Carlos Pairfect yarn is designed for heel flap socks. Will be interesting to see how it works out with short row heels.

@YourKnittingBestie 4 месяца назад
Thank you!! That makes me feel much better about my progress on the MKAL. I think it will be a while longer before mine is done for sure 😅 Spit splicing is a great idea - I think that yarn is superwash wool with a bit of silk. Do you think it would work okay with that composition? Thanks for the heads up about the Pairfect socks!! Perhaps I’ll leave the short row heel for my next set of socks.
