Remain rebels backed down in a Brexit showdown with the Government tonight after last-ditch concessions allowed Theresa May to win a crucial vote 324 to 298. Rebel ringleader Dominic Grieve had signalled he was prepared to lead a revolt and inflict a second Brexit defeat on the Government. To head off the defeat, Solicitor General Robert Buckland appeared to concede the central demand for a Commons vote either if the Government decides to walk away from talks without a deal, or if there is no deal by November 30. But the offer was enough this afternoon as rebels, including senior Tory Sarah Wollaston, backed down. The concession, which is still subject to talks between ministers and rebels, will not be finalised until the legislation returns to the House of Lords in the coming days.

Dominic Grieve had better stop his despicable courtroom tactics with the democratic will of the people. I hope the people of Beaconsfield have some sense and ensure he’s removed from our parliament. I’m a lifelong Tory and am sickened by his behaviour. I don’t suppose he’s been effected Brussels globalisation

Unless the next most popular party in Beaconsfield is putting forward a Brexit-supporting candidate (who will vote pro-Brexit regardless of party lines) then it doesn't make any difference.

StormySeb that’s what I’m hoping. Sadly it’s unlikely

So 2/3 rds of Labour MPs constituencies voted Leave. Can someone please tell me why they are all voting against Brexit?

Possibly the same reason they keep supporting policies that bear little resemblance to economic realities ?

Labour are by admission socialist, in other words communists, just listen to McD , Benn , Corby

Because, like the other parties, they'll always put forward a huge majority of pro-EU Parliamentary candidates. It's irrelevant whether your constituency voted Leave/Remain because most of the time your candidates are ALL Remainers.

StormySeb I agree - something which invalidates the oft made claim that 'we had a chance to vote out of the EU at every General Election' - the reality being that we had to wait forty years and the cheeky little shits say 'it was close'.

Grieve is being rather sneaky and unpatriotic. He is trying to tie the government into requiring a deal rather than no deal by a set date. That thereby makes David Davis's job impossible, because his EU counterparts sitting across the negotiating table, know all they need do is hold out long enough, and he must cave in. Keir Starmer for Labour was trying to pull the same move.

True. Bilderberg and George Soros have have decided to bring down an elected Gov't and put Elmer Fudd in. It's a coup d'etat. The unelected Billionaire elites are above any Sovereign Democracy.

Irritating how Grieve says 'provision for no deal' he knows full well what most of the rest of us mean by that. Somehow HE thinks that provision for no deal means requiring a deal or we stay in... well I wonder what the EU will do in those circumstances. It's like going to a car dealership and saying "you better give me a good deal on that Zafira or I'm outta here" and then your wife stomps in and says "Nah if you leave the dealership I'll divorce you.... you have to buy SOMETHING from THIS dealership"... well the car salesman would be licking his lips.

4:02 That will be the UK government, bound by the law (acts of parliament). Government is not above the law, and Parliament (the representative of the people) is the legislator.
