Hear me out: the nuzlocke but each person gets to choose game version and starts with a mod to have all characters & items unlocked but no secrets actually completed and starts with one item of their choosing and the twist is that everyone has a set number of runs to get as many secrets as possible. This would encourage strategy even down to what characters you use in what runs (except maybe ban tainted Cain because of easy breaks) and even what version you choose to balance amount of unlocks & ability to break vs difficulty. Also encourages high skill gameplay and smart strategy to get breaks/ min max. Just a fun idea
