REBUILDING A £1200 WRECKED MODDED HIGH MILEAGE MK5 GOLF GTI (PART 2)

This will be an epic build for the channel as there is a massive MK5 GTI following! From what I see it looks like the previous owner has upgraded the intercooler to a genuine S3 8P alloy end intercooler which are perfect for the stock K03 turbos - they hold boost better as it removes the stock bayonet connections which are known to pop off and cause a boost leak. Looks like you are missing the original downpipe hanger? (part number below). The noise from the exhaust could be blowing so check your downpipe/turbo gasket is all good along with inspecting the flexi pipe. As the car is already running a decat ensure you have uprated engine mounts i.e. Powerflex inserts yellow/purple are perfect for road use, the black series is for track & will cause too much cabin vibration. You want inserts for upper engine mount, lower engine mount, lower small bush & transmission mount (check mount design before ordering as there are two designs of the inserts). Ensure you do essential maintenance if your planning on keeping this car for the channel like cam chain, tensioner, cambelt, water pump & main thermostat if your car is not getting up to operating temperature and staying at 90 on the cluster (it should not drop below 90). Also, consider doing VIS freewheel balance shaft delete as they are known to seize and cause catastrophic engine damage. Make sure the solenoid connector to the high pressure fuel pump is not cracked as this can cause running issues along with the N205 valve which is located behind. The crankshaft sensor is known on some of these cars to give issues of car cutting out. As the car is high mileage it will be worthwhile to pull the intake manifold off and do walnut blasting due to carbon build up, injector cleaning & runner flap delete! VCDS Check Timing - 01 Engine > Measuring Block > Group 91 & 93 Fuel Injector Misfire Count - 01 Engine > Measuring Block > Group 14, 15 & 16 Fuel Rail Pressure - 01 Engine > Measuring Block > Group 001 (coolant temperature needs to be minimum 80 celcius) & 106/230 - Turn car off then switch back to ignition and access measuring block > 106/230. You can check the dv to see if it is split for the boost side of things also the rattle could poss be the heat shield around the turbo these are both common things on these engines.

I had the same problem on my mk5 gti changed the dv valve maf boost piped nothing no change turns put was a broken dipstick these engines are so sick but cam be a pain in the arse stick with it I want your wheels and induction kit 🤣 👌

Nice work bro. Had to change out an actuator on a scirocco that wasn’t boosting properly always threw limp mode. Then with the new one was noticeably a lot more boost and kicked in Alot earlier too. All good and love the content but please bro put your seatbelt on 🙏🏽

I had revo tuned mk5 golf gti stage 2+ which lost loads of boost/power turned out to be a tear in the diverted valve so put new one on and was back to being rapid..lol. ps defo check cam followers not worn, easy job to check and replace

I used to have one exact same disconnect your plug from maf sensor will get a engine management light on but watch how much faster it is and how much more it boosts

Fit a Hybrid turbo to this GTi, that is the best of both Worlds with a larger turbine or compressor in the same sized turbo housing. 😄😄
