Our customers are our livelihood! If we bankrupt them with unnecessary costs, we essentially bankrupt ourselves. On the flip side, if we don’t do the job right we cost them, and in turn cost ourselves! It’s honestly almost selfish in a way lol. But thank you, yes, we care a lot about our customers. They are why we are here!

Watching this video was like watching a job in our own workshop here in the UK. It's great to know that the techniques used are the same over there as over here. I'm about to embark on filming some jobs for youtube, but mostly based on smaller engines. Apart from the one stupid comment you have on here, i like to think that automotive machinists are usually pretty good towards eachother. We share jobs with several other shops here and all learn new things from eachother 👍 Really happy to see you gaining subs so quickly, you deserve it 😎
@JAMSIONLINE

That's awesome to hear! If you get some videos up, let me know. I'd love to see what it's like in the UK! I think it's great when we can all learn from each other. I don't understand where the negative comments come from lol. My momma taught me "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all".... Thanks for the support! The growth has been really exciting for me! Very fun for me to share my work with the world :)

You are bringing back memories of my years as a Cat tech. Those broken studs were brutal. Especially if someone hacked them before you. As you found out the cat studs have a taper at the inside potion that will come out if a square hole is drilled. We used heli coils when possible and the bigger cat inserts if the holes were too big. All while thr head was on and sometimes coolant still in engine.

Good job checking the valve protrusion/recession on a diesel head. Some shops don't understand the importance. I used to mix and match the valves to the chambers to try and average out the depths. Great video!
@JAMSIONLINE
@JAMSIONLINE 3 года назад
Been there, done that! Luckily w/ brand new valves they are pretty much the same but when grinding & reusing the valves I’ve definitely had to mix and match to average them lol The Serdi helps get them closer to the same depth as well but there’s always that one seat that is worse than the rest :p

The beginning, when doing the guides, a machine shop here cracked my guide housing smh Leaked oil into the chamber when motor is running. All that compression is pullin oil in between the guide and wall into the exhaust port. You’re doing good work bud👍🏼

Kick ass repair job, And a HUGE +1 on those spade style incerts. Having had issues with a Heil-Coil repair in a head bolt that CAT never told me was bad on a C-15 we had rebuilt. And went threw 3 head gaskets in less than 10 days. You can say I'm SOLD on them. Yes there expensive and maybe not the best option on every repair. But I can tell you this, After we finally put the correct thread replacement in that engine it went another 1.3 million miles with out any trouble.

When I worked in a diesel engine shop we did complete engine rebuilds, in frames and had a cylinder head shop not only for our rebuilds and in frames but as stocked product. We specialized in Mack and Cummins but did plenty of Caterpillar, Detroit, and International builds. We also did transmission and differential rebuilding, had an injection shop, a parts counter, and we're a full repair shop. All that being said, every head got new guides, new seats, new valves. Every head was surfaced. Certain models received new springs or retainers etc. But I can assure you we never measured original valve guide clearance. Our heads were reconditioned to an as new condition with a warranty. Unless it's a low mileage engine or the head was recently rebuilt then the guides will be worn, guides cost a fraction of the labor to pull the head, it just isn't worth the savings to not replace them.

Y’all have the advantage of machine tools to help remove broke bolts. Caterpillar makes a tool to help drill out broken bolts and stud on the exhaust ports. They actually make couple different ones, and they are designed to fit multiple different Caterpillar engines. It’s a machined plate that stamped what engine model with bolt holes, harden bushing, in a few different sizes so can be step drill.

You guys do excellent work which is extremely hard to find anywhere anymore. There is one good shop in my area and 10 other shops that need to be run out of town. I spent the biggest part of my earlier life doing machine work and moved on to other things. As I approach retirement age if it wasn't so expensive to outfit a shop I would do exactly that as I know I could stay covered up with work. The only good shop in town is always 3plus months behind. Should have thought it over a few years ago and started stocking up with equipment before now.

Seen couple of men with one eye left just because not wearing safety glasses and loosing an eye because of shattering piece of metal of a part , In 2 cases without hammering or pressing hard to get part in. Hard parts sometimes launch pieces of them with bullet speed because of internal tension and only very minor blow is needed!!!

Next time you get a Cat head in to change valve guides, blue or vac check the valves before you cut them, Cat heads are the only head I've ever come across that blue in/vac seal every single time after changing guides, most other heads won't do this. I'm not saying you shouldn't have cut the seats by the way, I just think it's interesting that Cat heads are always like this.

I was in a cat shop for awhile and there were plenty of low mileage units that came in with broken studs that the manifolds slid right apart on. We would put the joints back together with 2p-2333. Between that and the updated nuts they held up pretty well. The studs always seemed undersized for how much weight was hanging off them. But if you look at a series 60 the bolts never seemed to break off except on the ddec VI
