Love it! Rebuilding an A5 now similar but no Salvage Inspection required on this one. Audi Hood Installation Question: How did you prop up hood when installing (without scratching your paint job) then I assume two guys bolting onto hinges. I am removing center console digging for the airbag sensor. Then pulling trim digging down the the 2 locked rear seat belt retractors - did you fix or replace those on that awesome convertible you were working on?
Hi Jeff, I had my wife hold the other side of the hood while I got the bolts in, but I was in my own after that. Then it was about 5 hours of slight movements on both sides making sure it was perfect. Would have been faster with another person to assist in the adjustments, but it's part of the learning process and solo diy world. I pulled out both of my rear seat belts and sent them to myairbags.com along with the control module to be reset. They fixed everything and sent it back perfect and ready to install. They had a code diy salvage guy for a discount, but I'm not sure if it's still active. Highly recommend them as a company. Good luck!
I just had an insurance company write off my A5 3.0 TDI here in the UK. What was a glorified scrape compared to this, on the passanger side front corner. I slid into a Transit van in the snow. Unless you are driving a new or almost new vehicle, these companies will just take the car from you. It's frustrating watching these videos realiising how easy my car could've been repaired.
They can be repaired pretty easy but it is very costly. For instance, a new headlight alone costs 2 grand. Not sure what laws are in UK but if the repair value exceeds 70% of the car value here in the USA, they usually total it.
Technically you don't unless it runs or starts. But my theory is the car was most likely moving when it was in the accident, so the engine worked before the accident. If it doesn't start, chances are some safety mechanism was tripped. Best thing to do is to go see it, but that's not really feasible
