In this video we share the rebuilding of a 1977 Yukon Delta Houseboat.
We wanted something that could be quickly fixed for use on the Florida waterways. What we thought was a simple fix up turned out to be a total rebuild.

8:36 pm. AZ time. I dated one of the founders of Yukon Delta. Your renovation is a huge step up from the original. Kudos

Here recently my aging mother had put together some items she’s held onto over the years and inside the crate was the original paperwork to when her and my father had purchased ours when I was a kid. I had great memories camping on it but never could remember the name of it and only bits and pieces of exactly what it had looked like. Your video really was a trip down memory lane that I truly enjoyed so much so after watching it and now knowing what to look for I’m going to start to look for my own new little project boat. Yukon Deltas slogan was “ The Travel Trailer That’s a Boat” you have definitely went beyond that to a one of a kind Vessel. Thank you for the memories.

I only THOUGHT I had taken on the toughest renovation projects, when I seen this demoed to the rotten board's in the hull I cried " Shiver Me Timbers " nothing left but a hull and a trailer and their over 40 yrs old ! One hell of a project that only one in a million men could or would take on the task, one hell of a man ,,,,,,yes sir my hat is off ! And it's not often my hat comes off !! Many a men would have found the deepest water and scuddled her to the abyss while other men would had drank themselves into hell- yonder ! Every now and then someone has just got to go and raise the bar so get ready men to step up !

WOW amazing work! That was a massive undertaking and It looks better than new. As Ratty said "Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing -- absolutely nothing -- half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats. In or out of 'em it doesn't matter. Nothing seems to matter, that's the charm of it. Whether you get away, or whether you don't; whether you arrive at your destination or whether you reach somewhere else, or whether you never get anywhere at all, you're always busy, and you never do anything in particular; and when you've done it there's always something else to do, and you can do it if you like, but you'd much better not."

Check the hull for micro cracks. My son did a rebuild on a boat and didn't check. Took the boat out several times and found water in the bottom. Told him to get a bilge pump. Bought the boat for fifty sold it for 2 grand.

Your boat looks great! I also have a '77 YD here in 'Bama. How many knots per hour will the 60HP Johnson push it? I'm probably going to replace the original Volvo Penta AQ 130 D with an outboard and am trying to determine the best size.

Awesome build, this boat turned out great! This is something that I've thought about doing for years and I really learned a lot. I do have a question, do you have to replace the foam in the floor that you'd removed?

I really liked this , and your other vids/ As a boat owner and living on a large river I am seriously looking into making, buying, reconditioning a house boat. loved your work... How did you know your weight to hull ratio and stability before you added all that weight? Thanks again.
@backyardboatbuilders6417
@backyardboatbuilders6417 4 года назад
Our first boat was built from the Glen-L Gypsy plans. From that project we learned how to make construction light. When we removed the original cabin on the Yukon, we found it was very heavy. That gave us assurance we would be OK with our lighter construction.

Did you replace the spray foam floatation in the bottom of the boat? If not your marine insurance will not pay out if the boat sinks.

I have a new old saying buyer be informed, do research on the boat see what other owners have to say about things that they don't like, and don't buy if the price is too high. Fiberglass repair is feasible for a DIY person as is replacing rotten wood. Tap with a hammer poke with a pick and check with a moisture meter then make an offer be prepared to walk away,if the seller is delusional about the value of their boat.long story short you did an amazing job she is better than when she left the factory.

As I watch this progress... I am thinking.. ( over weight, too high, danger !) if you see videos of these things underway with their original cabins.. you realize they are not overly stable ... and to add more weight and height. is really asking for dangerous trouble. At the end you can see it is down in the bows... too much weight forward. While it looks more attractive and very gibson like... the designers knew the limitations of the hull and used aluminum and kept it short for reasons of stability. I wish you good luck and mild conditions.
@wesm3915
@wesm3915 8 дней назад
If that is a tankless hot water heater outside the rear door that close to an outboard motor that is a very dangerous situation.

Two cents... just a different prospective. At 68 years old and years of messing with boats I’m sure you have found by now that you thought you Buying an old house boat but what you really bought was something looking like a boat but was really a dumpster! Happens all the time. I’ve thought about maybe I should go into business as a boat inspection guy before you buy. Well I’ve had this idea for someone like you trapped after the fact before spending all that money rebuilding. You’re on the right track stripping her down to the bare. Then what? This is where it takes a turn .finish out the hull and build a cradle inside. Then. Thinking outside the box... yep. Go looking for a good used slide in truck camper maybe say a 11 or 12 footer. It has everything you could want all ready build in . Just set the thing in the cradle rear door towards the aft bed overhang forward. Modify as needed. You’re on your way. I’m sure you get the picture by now.👍
